how to have a sturgeon summer:
1. be quite large
2. use your barbels to find prey among the gravel along the bottom of the river
3. extend your siphon-like mouth to eat small fish, shellfish, and crustaceans
4. launch yourself out of the water and make a big splash just for fun
5. show off them scutes!
you can now enjoy your sturgeon summer
A battle between good and weevil
This is true but I'm gonna be controversial for a second and say that I feel bad for jocks who get hit with The Injuryâąïžtoo. The Injuryâąïž fucking sucks, man. Having something that everyone praised you for when you were young suddenly betray you and having to grapple with both a sudden loss of ability (whether it's something that can be recovered from or not) and figure out what your future looks like now that the one you had imagined for yourself (whether it was actually realistic or not) feels like it's been snatched away is brutal.
it's called a ball python because it is a python(đ) that ball(đ )
nothing in the rules says a python can't play basketball
some early morning wisdom for you all
stop. analyse that text through the lens of its author's intentions and original historical context. okay now take the author out back and kill them dead and analyse that text as though it were published by your mutual yesterday and is in direct conversation with the contemporary discourse that's most relevant to your life. okay now pick your favorite angle of interpretation and come up with the strongest possible argument against it. now imagine that the text is your best friend and that it means you well and that you naturally give it every benefit of the doubt because you're on its side and you want the best for it. now imagine that the text wants you dead and it'll eat you if you don't eat it first. now pretend that you found this text locked away in a cave with no evidence of when or where it came from and you have to divine its meaning solely through its internal coherence and nothing else. okay now address the elephant in the room aspect of the text you've been ignoring because you find it boring or confusing or uncomfortable and become the number one expert on it. now spend forty minutes assigning all the characters dnd classes with at least three sentences of reasoning each. okay now do the cha cha slide.
if you work in a creative field...or if you do creative hobbies like writing or drawing...you need to make friends with people who don't do those things. you need to befriend normie Steve who has never written a story in his life. and this is because when you are in a creative job or hobby and spend all your time doing that thing, surrounded by very capable people, who you inevitably compare your own progress and skills to, you forget what the baseline human skill at that thing is. and it's usually zero. normie Steve has not written a story since the 3rd grade when his teacher made him do it. he's very good at other things that are not storytelling - but if you tell normie Steve that you wrote a full 300-page book from start to finish, he will think you're some kind of savant. he does not know ANYONE else who has done this. you need this perspective. because when you're constantly on Let's Write Stories dot Com then everyone on Let's Write Stories dot Com will inevitably be like "oh of course everyone on earth has written a book or several at this point!" and you canNOT let yourself think that. that is not even close to the average human experience. you are in a bubble. do not put yourself down. do not give up.
I listened to the Magnus Archives

people say folks with adhd struggle with "delayed rewards" aka long term goals and as such we tend to focus more on short term rewards. what they don't talk about is that at when we Do accomplish long term goals we don't actually feel anything proportionate to the amount of work we did to achieve it. In my head I suffered for a while and then money spontaneously appeared in my bank account.
"Don't you feel satisfied that your windows are so clean now?" It sucked and it sucked and now I don't care. I just remember the sucking.
that post about negotiation with hoas by threatening to set up a ham radio tower bc the fcc would back you up will not work at all even slightly but i will say that the blood feud between hoas and ham radio ppl is real & eternal. like if you want to get around hoa rules a ham radio person will probably have ideas
once again thinking about this guys âbirdhouseâ bc his hoa banned antennas but not âbirdhousesâ
One time I was helping a ham radio guy with his email and mentioned how I wanted to get into ham radio, but couldnât because I lived in an apartment. That guy immediately rattled off like, five different ways I could set up a radio antenna inside my apartment, and seven different ways I could hide/disguise the antenna and still get a decent radio signal. Ham radio enthusiasts are a hybrid between boy scouts and wizards and I love them they play an important role in our ecosystem
To update this, the astronaut didnât actually do it, she and her wife were getting a divorce and the wife plead guilty to lying to the feds about it
And framing your ex for a crime mid-divorce while they are actively in space is some Agatha Christie level shit
maybe she just needed... some space
sorry i got heart pupils when you were mean and perverted to me
How people can mistakenly think or just subconsciously feel food works: there are âunhealthyâ foods like pizza or fried chicken and âhealthyâ foods like fruit salad or steamed vegetables. Every time you eat an âunhealthyâ food youâve harmed yourself in some way.
How food actually works: foods contain carbs, proteins, fats, sugars, vitamins, minerals, fiber and/or other nutrients. Your body needs and uses all of them but it would like to have a little of everything every day. If you ate pizza or fried chicken for lunch then thatâs probably your fat and protein for the day with extra that your body will make use of in time, so itâs a good idea to make your next meal something different like that fruit salad or steamed veggies. You can have that fatty lunch every single day if you just maintain balance and stay active enough to actually use what youâre stocking up on because foods arenât âgood or bad;â they just either fit into the rest of your diet and lifestyle or they donât.
Thanks, OP.Â
also your body doesnât necessarily work on a daily cycle, itâs not so neat as to understand linear time and how we choose to divide it. You donât have to try and find perfect balance every single day, sometimes you will go three or four days eating less or eating more. Sometimes you will crave fats or salts or sugars or greens for a few days at a time before your body will decide itâs gathered enough resources in one particular department. The balance is achieved over time and in uneven tides, and thatâs good and fine.
Original post has been going around for years now but this fairly recent addition is a really good one I needed to be reminded of too. We donât just reset to 0 every night.

i was so sad, i drew a little bat so i wouldnât be sad. and now i am no longer sad.
here is a little bat to banish your sadness
This nice little bat reminds me of this other nice little bat who was drawn in the 1200s:
This is the only website where I routinely see people say things like âoh this reminds me of something I recently saw from the 1200sâ
