The 12 episode series "My Wife Has no Emotion" starts out just a quirky "guy marries his ambiguously-sapient robot" but by the end of it his own family is roasting him on Asimovian moral quandaries.
imagine bringing your extravagant food processor (what this robot is actually designed to be) home to your mom and she's completely accepting that she raised an incel technophile BUT she has serious philosophical concerns regarding theoretical degrees of personhood in a rapidly evolving technological landscape

yeah, people have pointed out how ironic it is that for all Musk's stupid invocations of The Matrix, Vivian is the one whose life story has played out like Neo
It's very common for former "designer babies" to have trauma from not just the fact that they were basically a product sold to their parents as superior healthy optimized children, but also because biology doesn't work like that & the science is overhyped so many parents become resentful & abusive when the perfect kid they paid a lot of money for ends up just being a regular imperfect human being.
The first "designer babies" are already fully grown adults & many of them are speaking out about how messed up it is.
addicted to sending this clip from twilight to my friends whenever they are in a situation where i think they should lie

still mad about smart TVs. that shit should be in a separate box like you can literally buy one of them androidtv boxes for £30. it doesn't need its own ip address it doesn't need its own app store it doesn't need to replicate the functionality every device plugged into it already has
Smart TVs are one of the great evils of the modern era tbh. If I wanted spyware on my TV I should have to download it myself
i keep promising myself i won't become another technophobe yelling about those "dang newfangled machines" or whatever. that i won't Get Worse until going back to punchcards unironically seems like a good idea. that i'll enjoy new things as they come out.
but so much is actively evil, hostile or otherwise enshittified. i don't want to track my greebles with splorp i don't want to pay a teehee subscription to get round cacophany's file limits i don't need 17 ways to skrimple my scronk 7 of which secretly activate scrungly plus ultimate i don't need to link it to my flowolf account i don't want to manage it with the flowby mowby i don't care if poob does or does not has it for me. i don['t care
i want a big screen whose ENTIRE job is to show me whatever device i plug into it. and also audio. i want to save my documents. on the computer. that i'm using. i want to own the media i buy. i want tech that is fat, properly cooled, simpler, serviceable by a normal person, and not forcing me to constantly select the "onlly spy on me a little bit" box every couple weeks.
I was not expecting to see comments on this kind of thing in the wild. Because of a shared hatred for SmartTVs shared with my spouse we are some what shackled to a 10+ year old television without the mire of bullshit apps bells and whistles. A couple years ago we tried to find alternatives, but there wasn't a good answer. Things have changed since then.
text:
I have a soniq smart tv. I emailed the manufacturer and told them I had to disable all wireless tech in order to use the tv in my nanas house due to her medical equipment. They emailed me a code that disabled all the onboard shit (smart tv/wireless stuff) that I typed in on the remote. They warned me i couldn't restore it but I was okay with that.
TL;DR You can turn any smart tv into a normal tv with the manufacturers help ;)

This stops being quite as "zany shitpost" and becomes "Accidental Performance art commentary on Accessibility" when you consider the vast number of people unable to sit upright or leave a bed, most or all the time. No you don't see us, we're in bed either all the time or when our conditions flare up and put us there regularly.
When i first saw this I thought, "HAH- too bad that's not a feasible thing, then I could go so many public places while still safely cushioned and laying down!"
...only then did I realize how many people would never see it that way.
