LGBT Characters In Digimon
I was feeling pretty bored so I thought I’d put together this list of confirmed gay characters in digimon.
Status: Confirmed Lesbian.
She’s probably the most “gay” on this list as her homosexuality is pretty undeniable. Anybody who plays Cyber Sleuth for 10 minutes will tell you this. She is constantly (Intentionally or not), bringing up her feelings romantic towards her partner in crime, Yuuko, even going so far as to say that her entire being is devoted to the other woman. Other characters in the game tease her for her feelings, but never in a negative way.
Which leads us to our other character, Yuuko.
Status: Lesbian(Or bisexual)
Much like how Fei has feelings for Yuuko, Yuuko has been shown to have romantic feelings for Fei as well, though not as open about it. Keisuke, the protagonist of Dgimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Hackers Memory can question her about her feelings for Fei, where Yuuko will admit that Fei is someone special to her, putting her even above a “lover.”
And again, from Hackers Memory(This game has a lot of homo), is Yu.
Status: Confirmed Homosexual
Yu is a lot like Fei in the way that the game never goes out of his way to hide his homosexuality, or the feelings he has for the main character, Keisuke. In fact, without spoiling too much, a huge part of the story revolves around him going into a depression after he realizes that Keisuke will never lover him. There is a point in the game where he tricks Keisuke into going on a date with him where he tries to hold hands with him and kiss him, but ultimately fails when Keisuke becomes uncomfortable with the situation.
Aaaaand, since this is a monster collecting franchise, we natually have to have some lgbt monsters as well.
Status: Confirmed(ish) homosexual
I hesitated over whether or not to add actually Gaomon to this list, but I felt I might as well as the creators seem to have intended for him to be a gay character. All through out the show Gaomon affectionately refers to his partner Thomas as “master”. While it could be said that he does this as he sees himself as someone in a servants role, he does blush around Thomas many times and says that his entire being is devoted to being with Thomas.
In the Digimon Savers final episode special, where Agumon, Gaomon, and Lalamon are giving a commentary of the entire show, Agumon and Lalamon ask Gaomon if he thinks Thomas cares about his sister or gaomon more. Gaomon responds with that he’s in love with Thomas and he’s sure Thomas feels the same way, before cutting himself off and getting flustered as he realizes he’s homosexual, and running off out of embarrassment. As it’s a “special” and not necessarily a part of the series canon, it’s up to you whether you want it to be canon or not.
Lordknightmon (and possibly Dynasmon)
Status: Confirmed Homosexual
Okay, we all know Lordknightmon. I don’t think I even have to say anything here. He was made to be the stereotypical gay villain character of the week. His homosexuality is only ever brought up in the most negative ways possible. That said, I still like him because he has a cool design. Even if he does openly ship the twin brothers Kouji and Kouchi in frontier.
Lordknightmona and Dynasmon may or may not be boyfriends. They certainly seem to be a couple, though the anime never dwells into that territory as much as they seem that they are.
Funfact: Lordknightmon was so gay that he was turned into a female in the English dub of digimon frontier.
Haru has become widely known, both inside, and outside of the digimon fandom, as the first homosexual protagonist of the digimon franchise. While it’s never outright confirmed within the show itself if he really is gay, there is a lot of evidence to support it. He often blushes when Yuujin is around and has even been accused of being gay by his own appmon partner, Gatchmon. By the end of the series, Haru says many things that could be interpreted as romantic like,
“My feelings for Yuujin are my most important treasure.”, calling Yuujin the best friend that he loved, and referring to Yuujin as “My Yuujin”.
The voice actor for Ai, Haru’s original love interest, has said on twitter that she was disappointed that Yuujin ended up stealing the love interest role, and Haru, away from her.
Yuujin could arguably be considered confirmed homosexual as he was a robot designed by the villain Leviathan, specifically to love and please Haru in every way. But that’s only if you consider a robot being programmed to like boys makes it gay lol
Ami(Female protagonist of Cyber Sleuth) and Nokia
Both (Kinda) confirmed to be anything but straight
So here’s a funny story. When Cyber Sleuth was made, it was made with a male protagonist in mind. Because of this, all the dialogue makes sure to be targeted towards a male character. This makes the female protagonist HELLA gay. NPC’s will ask you if you’re into cute girls which Ami totally is by default, and to make it even funnier, it makes Nokia HELLA bisexual as she’ll flirt with the player regardless of gender
Bandai might actually be rolling with the idea that Ami actually is gay though because after the game was released we got some interesting, shippy art of her and nokia, with ami untying nokia’s underwear…
This gay guy(Yes cyber sleuth has a lot of gay characters)
These two girls on Eris twitter feed. It might be interesting to point out that this appeared on screen only a minute before Gatchmon accused Haru and Yuujin of being on a date of their own in episode 27. In the twitter feed, a girl is complaining that her girlfriend is taking so long to arrive for their date, a parallel to Yuujin arriving late for his own “date” with Haru.
Okay that was a joke. But Jeff Nimoy did say that he wrote the two as if they were gay lovers.
