Hey, I'm from an area where card games aren't very popular (Vanguard even less so), and I was wondering if you knew of any online groups where I could talk to people about vanguard or get tips. I'm fairly new to the game, and the closest shop that sells Vanguard is in the next town over. Anyway, thanks fot your time and sorry if I've bothered you. :)
You haven’t bothered me at all!! ^.^ (Tbh I actually completely forgot about this sub blog haha.) Best place I can probably tell ya to look is the North American Cardfight Vanguard page on facebook, but I’ll be honest with ya I kinda quit the game a while back, and haven’t actually been on that page in a while, so I’m not too sure what it’s like. I’d ask tumblr user bluesapph, or holydragonreligioussoulsaver, both of them are probably bit more in tune with the game and could probably help out a bit more. Hope this helps a little bit!

Between Wind and Water
Revonn stood upon the rocky Cliffside looking over the vast expanse of sea that lay before him. The smell of salt filled the air around him, and the sound of waves could be heard coming from below the cliff.
Far off in the distance, dark gray clouds began to encompass the once bright blue sky. Despite being a Tear Dragon, one of the most powerful races to inhabit the Planet Cray, Revonn knew to respect the sea, and the storms that would be wrought. However, this storm was not of natural occurrence. He could sense the darkness that conjured the oncoming gale, and an uneasy feeling began to settle over him.
As he stood there, his deep cobalt scales glimmering in the sunlight that would soon yield to the shadowy tempest, he heard the sound of footsteps softened by the grassy plains behind him, and the slight clink of shifting armor. Turning to greet his guest, he saw standing before him Muramasa, the legendary hero of the old war, and wielder of the sword known as Blaster Dark.
He was clad in a long black coat, with teal highlights across his chest and running down the length of the duster, and a vivid red lined the inside. His legendary blade was latched to his right side, and he donned lightweight, black armor plating, which could be seen running down his arms and legs. His mid length, dark brown hair shifted as the wind wound its way past him, and although he stood much shorter than the Tear Dragon, he carried with him a commanding presence, one that Revonn could not help but have an instant appreciation for.
"Thank you for meeting me on such short notice, Colonel Revonn." Muramasa said, bowing slightly.
"Of course, how could I turn down an invitation from a legend? And please, call me by my name." Revonn replied, returning the motion.
Muramasa walked to the edge of the cliff and stood next to Revonn, gazing up at the ever growing squall over the sea.
"I'm sure by now, you've seen this is no ordinary storm." Muramasa stated.
"Aye. It's carrying quite the ominous wind." The dragon replied. "Our forward commander, Pythos, has experienced this storm first hand upon his passage through the Star Gate Nation, where the Great Daiyusha had fallen victim. Fortunately, that situation was resolved swiftly. Pythos report stated that Daiyusha had become 'obsessed with power, and had been using black rings to coerce his subjects into following him'. It was disturbing, to say the least." Revonn continued, "We've also received reports from our Storm Rider Division, that the forces of Granblue are moving with similar fashion. The Necromancer Cocytus has apparently joined this power of his own free will, but we plan to put an end to that."
"So we're not the only ones to experience it…" Muramasa thought aloud. "We recently dealt with similar situations within the Dark Zone, as both Luquier of the Pale Moon Circus, and the Demon Marquise, Amon, had been bound to the black rings. I myself have seen a glimpse of the ones responsible. They call themselves Link Joker, but they did not disclose any more information than that before retreating."
"This is unsettling news…" Revonn said as the wind picked up slightly. "Do you think it's returned?" He asked, his voice taking a solemn tone.
"It's a possibility," Muramasa replied. "Which is why I'm here. I fear that we are again on the brink of a full scale war with these invaders, and when it escalates to that, we're going to need allies. Can we of the United Sanctuary count you and the Magellan Navy to support us when the time comes?"
"We were misled by the wind, once blinded by our ambitions to return to power, and it cost Cray greatly. We will not misread the wind a second time. You may count our forces amongst your allies, Muramasa, and we shall quell the whirlwind before us." Revonn replied with a great sense of pride.
"I look forward to fighting alongside you, in the meantime, I must return and report to Mordred. You'll be hearing from us again soon." Muramasa said as he jumped off the Cliffside. Revonn stood in a momentary shock as Muramasa rose up, riding on a black winged Pegasus. Muramasa looked at Revonn one last time before flying off into the sky.
Turning his attention back to the darkening skies, Revonn spread his wings, and took off into the rising wind. He knew that the oncoming storm would bring a fierce fight, and it was time to ready his soldiers for the battle ahead. "It's time to right our wrongs." He thought to himself as he flew.
Black Dragon Knight, Vortimer
Heads up, I just threw this together. I couldn't help but notice how similar Duke and Nebula Lord Dragon look, and according to both lore and game, there's no relation, so I made a relation. I haven't really proofread this, and I haven't put too much effort into it, but I'd love to know what you all think. Thanks! -dogblu/jon pultz Vortimer sat alone in the armory of the Ancient Castle. The halls were dimly lit by faded over hanging lights, and small torches sat upon each of the four bricked walls surrounding him. There was a slight dampness in the air; a muskiness that the old room would never fail to hold.
He inhaled deeply, taking in the damp air that surrounded him, and looked over his armor; that of the Abyssal Black Dragon. A powerful relic that he was granted during the war against Void; Cray's greatest enemy. The armor allowed him to harness and channel the fabled dragon's powers, and become the dragon himself.
However, those days were long passed, and his powers as the Abyss Dragon were no longer needed. The fighting force, known as the Gold Paladins had disbanded, each member returning to the various forces they once originated from when the war was over. Thusly, Vortimer returned to his people, the Shadow Paladins, Under the new leadership of Muramasa, otherwise known as the legendary hero, Blaster Dark.
Muramasa decreed that the Shadow Paladins would reorganize into a new force, a special elite unit known as the "Revengers", in order to help defend both the United Sanctuary, and Cray. Vortimer had sworn his allegiance to the Revengers and Muramasa, and soon would have to report to his station as a commander of the Calvary Division.
Gaining this new position, and seeing that it would require him to become a new individual in order to lead his men, he decided that the Armor of the Abyssal Dragon should be used again only in a time of absolute need, and thus, was preparing it for storage.
He glimpsed over the suit one last time, its radiance still as brilliant as the first day it was given to him. It's dark turquoise composition, with its gold trimmings shone bright, even in the dim light of the Armory. The helm, marked by its unique head crest, was polished to perfection. Not a spot was found in the armor.
Vortimer was proud of the work he had done as the Black Dragon Knight, and there was a heavy sadness that grew in his heart as he locked the armor away.
As he began to walk out of the armory, he noticed an eerie silence fall across the room. His spine began to tingle, and instinctively, drew his sword. He stood there, motionless, listening to the empty darkness. Suddenly, the shadows merged, forming a tall figure. Vortimer's muscles tightened, his body falling naturally into a combat stance. The figure emerged from the shadows, donned in a white armor, with large pouldrons that protruded from the center mass, and came to a point. His helm covered his eyes, but left his mouth undisturbed. His skin was pale; to the point it almost looked to be the same color of his armor.
Bright red lines highlighted the armor all over, and a large black ring was mounted on his back, which had a red aura surrounding it.
The intruder made no immediate motions, but just stood there in silence for a moment.
"Who are you?" Vortimer asked, a stern tone filled his voice.
"We… are what you thought dead and gone…" The intruder responded, with an echo that filled the room. "Our resurgence shall begin again!" And with that, the figure moved with impeccable speed to where Vortimer had placed the armor.
Without thinking, Vortimer immediately lunged at the intruder, but his sword made contact with nothing but the empty armor stand before him.
Turning around, he saw the figure move for the exit, and Vortimer gave chase. He followed the intruder through the halls of the castle, up until they collided just outside the main gate. The moon light illuminated the bridge, and the armor pieces carried by the intruder were sent across the bridge connecting the castle to the mainland. The intruder, now on his feet again, drew what appeared to be two large swords, each with similar coloring to his armor and black rings.
Not saying a word, Vortimer immediately took the defensive as the intruder launched a volley of blows, which Vortimer could only barely parry and deflect. His opponent was lightning fast, and highly skilled with the strange weapons he was wielding, but Vortimer was no amateur, and upon parrying a particularly off blow, he delivered a powerful kick to the intruder's chest, putting distance between himself and his opponent.
As he recovered though, Vortimer turned to his horror as three more of the intruder formed from nothingness, each gathering a piece of the armor.
"We shall not be hindered…" the intruders said in unison as they merged together into one.
Vortimer again went on the offensive, but it was too late. The intruder began to lift off the ground, clearing any effective attack space between him and Vortimer. Once in the air, the intruder began to absorb the armor, until a dark orb surrounded him, followed by black rings.
He watched as the orb grew larger, and the black rings expanded rapidly, almost similar to that of an explosion. Vortimer shielded himself, only to recover and see what now stood before him.
A massive black dragon, lined with white and black armor, and a plethora of black rings surrounding various parts of the dragon's body. It's massive wings spread out as the dragon began to ascend.
Before Vortimer could do anything, the dragon took off with blinding speeds towards the stars.
He sat in silence, contemplating what had just happened, and all that he had witnessed. As it sank in, he knew this would only be the beginning of events like this, and immediately began preparations to head to the main fortress of the Paladins, Mundus Vult Decipi, to warn them of the impending dangers.

Super Dimensional Robo, Daikaiser
[AUTO] Limit Break 4 (This ability is active if you have four or more damage):[Counter Blast (1)] When a «Dimension Police» rides this unit, choose one of your vanguards, and that unit gets [Power]+10000/[Critical]+1 until end of turn, and that unit gets "[AUTO](VC) When this unit’s drive check reveals a grade 3 《Dimension Police》, choose one of your opponent’s units on the (GC) and retire it, and nullify the effect including the unit’s “cannot being hit".
[AUTO](VC): When this unit is boosted by a «Dimension Police», this unit gets Power +2000 until end of that battle.
[CONT](VC/RC): Lord (If you have a unit without a same clan as this unit, this unit cannot attack) This is Glory Maelstrom on crack.
Ocean though, right? I was going to write an article on Schwarzschild Dragon this week, but I decided against it because Schwarzschild is bad and I plan to write that article in a very "Zero Punctuation" manner.
So instead this week I bring you Aqua Force and Glory Maelstrom.
Blue Storm Supreme Dragon, Glory Maelstrom is the new cross ride for Blue Storm Dragon, Maelstrom brought to us in BT09 Clash of Knights and Dragons. It has been a long awaited card for many Aqua Force players in the English format, and many thought that his skill was broken. Here's his skill: [AUTO](VC) Limit Break 5 (This ability is active if you have five or more damage):[Counter Blast(1)] When this unit attacks a vanguard, you may pay the cost. If you do, until end of that battle, this unit gets [Power +5000, and your opponent cannot call grade 1 or greater units to (GC) from his or her hand. [CONT](VC): If you have a card named "Blue Storm Dragon, Maelstrom" in your soul, this unit gets [Power] +2000. [CONT](VC/RC): Lord (If you have a unit that doesn't belong to the same clan as this unit, this unit cannot attack)
Needless to say, it's a very good skill, but there's a serious problem with Glory's effect; it's not Aqua Force.
What I mean by that is that it doesn't fit into the usual Aqua Force tropes of third or fourth battle in a turn. Come to think of it, Glory doesn't really fit into any clan, he's just kind of there like an elephant in the room.
On his own, he's a very good card, but put him into a deck, and he tends to be lackluster. It's kind of the opposite problem that Dragonic Kaiser Vermillion, THE BLOOD has, where in THE BLOOD is a bad card, but paired with the rest of the deck, he's useful.
Fact is, Glory just doesn't put as much pressure as regular Maelstrom. There's no reason to get the cross ride off early game because he's nothing more than a 13k until you hit 5 damage. He makes your opponent use up a lot grade zeros to guard, which is good, but regular Maelstrom not only forces perfect guards, but if he hits, you can retire an opponent's rear guard and draw a card.
Despite all this though, Glory is still powerful, and should be used in any Maelstrom build, but not as the center piece. It's a tech, so to speak, and is implemented only as a final turn push, or as an additional 11k rearguard. Additionally, Glory can be used in conjunction with Tear Knight Valeria, and assists her in becoming a much bigger threat.
Ideally, an Aqua Force player would have a field set up with a Storm Rider Diamantes Column (Either Maelstrom, Glory, or Lazarus behind him), Vanguard Maelstrom booster by Battle Siren Dorothea, and Coral Assault/Tear Knight Lazarus boosted by Tear Knight Theo.
However, for anyone running Tear Knight, Valeria, that last column would have Theo boosting Valeria. With regular Maelstrom on the Vanguard circle, the player has to rely on stand triggers to make Valeria viable. But with Glory on the Vanguard, Valeria becomes a very real threat, as Glory does not require a third or fourth battle activation. On top of that, you can assign trigger power to Valeria, increasing the threat she already presents.
But, until the player hits five damage, that kind of tactic should not be relied upon, and again Glory falls to a final turn option.
Essentially, Glory is the monster that should lurk in the deep and only brought to the surface to finish the game.
My current deck build consists of the following: 3x Blue Storm Supreme Dragon, Glory Maelstrom 3x Blue Storm Dragon, Maelstrom 2x Storm Rider, Diamantes
2x Coral Assault 3x Tear Knight, Valeria 4x Tear Knight Lazarus 2x Storm Rider Basil
4x Tear Knight, Theo 2x Tear Knight Cyprus 3x Battle Siren, Dorothea 4x Emerald Shield, Pascal 1x Light Signals Penguin Soldier
3x Pyroxene Communications Sea Otter Soldier (Draw) 4x Medical Officer of the Rainbow Elixir (Heal) 3x Supersonic Sailor (Critical) 2x Dolphin Soldier of the High Speed Raid (Stand) 2x Enemy Seeking Seagull Soldier (Stand) 2x Pyroxene Beam Blue Dragon Soldier (Stand)
1x Officer Cadet, Erikk
Starlight Melody Tamer, Farah With the release of Booster Set 09, Clash of the Knights & Dragons, comes a new 11k for Pale Moon in the form of Starlight Melody Tamer, Farah. At a glance, Farah seems to be a pretty good card; 11k vanguard and an ACT persona blast, it all appears very enticing, but let's look at the card and the way she works with the deck in a bit more detail. First off, the effect: [ACT] (VC) Limit Break 4 (This ability is active if you have four or more damage):[Counter Blast (1) & Choose a card named "Starlight Melody Tamer, Farah" from your hand, and discard it] Soul Charge (2), choose up to one «Pale Moon» from your soul, call it to (RC), and that unit gets [Power]+3000 until end of turn. [CONT](VC/RC): Lord (If you have a unit that doesn't belong to the same clan as this unit, this unit cannot) (http://cardfight.wikia.com/wiki/Starlight_Melody_Tamer%2C_Farah) So, an ACT counter blast 1, persona blast to soul charge two, call a unit to RG, and give it +3k. Not bad, but look at what you give up for what you get. You have to discard a potential 11k attacker to gain a unit that can't even reach an extra stage of power on its own. The only card capable of that in the deck is Midnight Invader, and with random soul charging, there's no consistent way to ensure he's in your soul when you're ready to activate Farah's effect. Speaking of, when do you activate Farah's effect? Ideally, you'd be able to activate it three times in a game, but that's not always the way it works. Sometimes you'll be able to fire it twice, sometimes never. But even if you can get it off, there's no good time to activate it. Farah herself gains no boost from having units called from the soul like Luquier does, nor could you fill a field with the effect, so Farah's effect simply cannot push for a game winning play. The best thing you can do is use Farah's Persona Blast when you can. Use it to fill an empty RG slot or to +2 into the soul, there's not much else to do with it. So what can Farah bring to the table? Well, she's an 11k vanguard or rear guard, which in Pale Moon, is very good. If you run beast tamer support, Farah will allow you to swing for a near consistent 20k on both VG and RG when backed by a Turquoise. The defensive capabilities are an added bonus, although in this format 16k columns are a little too easy to build. Regardless, that plus 1k makes the difference between a 5k shield and a 10k. Farah's other bonus, albeit not always a plus, is the ability to soul charge two at one time. This is important because of Pale Moon's focus on the soul. However, this extra soul charge only helps if you have cards that allow you to make use of the soul; Alice, Purple Trapezist, Midnight Bunny, ect. Those units would benefit heavily from Farah's ability, and can open up many possibilities for your soul swaps. If you try to make Farah into an aggressive build, you'll find that the soul charging will do nothing for you, and her persona blast is all but useless. All in all, Farah is not the best Vanguard Choice for a more competitive Pale Moon build, but she's not the worst either. She has some potential, and I look forward to seeing what other cardfighters can do with her, and if you have a build you'd like to share, or some helpful tips to add for running Farah, message me and I'll post it up. In the mean time, I'm going to stick to my Luquier build and wait patiently until Luquier "Я" is released.
Till next time guys! Photo provided by me.

We had a great time at the lock in for the Set 9 release! We had a sealed event, Reverse freeze tag, lots of good games, and I got to DJ all night. Took it outta me, but had a ton of fun last night. Everyone was so awesome, we all got all the cards we needed, and if we didn't pull the ones we needed, someone else would be right there handing the card to us. I got a hold of three Glory Maelstroms, completing my play set, an SP Farah, two Halo Shield Marcs, and a Blaster Dark Spirit. All in all, it was a great night, and I hope my shop does another one in the future!
Good sneak peek was good. :3 #sp
