Yeah, so disappointed with the Supergirl movie. I feel like it had good moments and I think Millie Alcock does great in the role! The problem IS that the movie is trying to be guardians of the galaxy in tone and even copy James Gunn's directing style, without really realizing that the reason his style works is because hes actually moudling to the individual shapes of each character. That comes down to the soundtrack, too, which feels absolutely directionless in how it wants to characterize Kara.

And thats another thing! The movie has no identity of its own. Its barely about Supergirl! It focuses too much on this random little girl and this revenge plot thats meant to be a parallel to Kara, but, like, how? Kara's whole planet is extinct, she didnt lose her family to a single person with an evil vendetta, the sun exploded! There is nothing for Kara to want revenge on, so how would she be saying shit like "let it go or itll destroy you." Its the grief of losing one's family that should connect the two, but the movie frames the revenge part to be the connection. And it constantly nerfs Kara every chance it gets instead of letting her shine. She should be no-diffing some characters imo or at least be faster than shes being depicted in her fights.

All-in-all. Its an alright watch, not the worst, but not the potential I really really hoped to see displayed. A 6/10 DOES feel like an accurate rating to give this movie, though not for any reason an incel may say.

#yeah. this is actually the worst#because if someone likes something for the wrong reasons and you like it too you can just sort of shrug off their opinion#but if they dislike it in a way that's unfair it's actually infuriating because now you've been put in the position#of defending this absolute dogshit piece of media - even if only in your own head - against their unreasonable complaints#it's the exact opposite of catharsis

And Ilya is like WAIT she thinks Shane is in charge of both of us?? And the trainer is just like well do you interact in a way that would make her think that?

Ilya’s life flashes before his eyes as he thinks of all the times Shane has come over with a snack for Ilya and a treat for Anya, or all the times Shane has announced they’re all going for an after dinner walk, or pets Ilya’s hair and tells him he did a good job at practice, or the fact that he uses the same warning tone with Anya when she misbehaves as he does with Ilya when he’s causing problems on purpose

Shane comes home to Ilya with his face in his hands going oh god I’m not Anya’s dad I’m her brother and she thinks we’re both your pets. And Shane just goes. What.
