my very first fgo master oc was born in October 17, 2017 in the website called quotev. Her name was Ayumi Katou. I was new to FGO at that time and she was bland as fck.
Mostly because she was new and I was still figuring out the game’s premise.
one mastersona i roleplayed with back when quotev still has group tabs intact was named Harriet (sp?) Beauchene. I love her mastersona so much the face claim was suiren shibazeki (yeah i still remember) and she was damn cute, and another is named Hiroyuki and this OC is born a girl named Yuki but due to the circumstances in the family and mages being assholes, she was forced to be raised as a male. i found it interesting that it’s been 3 consecutive years and i can still remember bit of it (fc was honebami toshiro from tokuenranbu)

Koyanskaya is something I've been wanting for the longest time. All the parts I liked about Tamamo without any of the parts I disliked. I have loved her since her introduction.
In Anastasia, she doesn't get to do much. All she does is debut her merciless capitalist gimmick and instigates the Yaga into cannibalizing each other if they can't get her overpriced food. When don't know if they actually did, but it's like because this taunt is based on an exaggeration of the lack of empathy induced by harsh circumstances that defines the Russian Lostbelt. This is the first example in the pattern of how Koyanskaya is always directing her criticisms at the flaws of each Lostbelt.
In Gotterdamerung, she's following the established of criticizing the Lostbelt's flaws, but she spends more time bullying Ophelia directly than doing anything about how she feels like Skadi's policy of keeping the citizens innocent takes away the malice that makes them human.
But the important bit here is her talk with Caenis as they leave the Norse Lostbelt. There Caenis calls her "Beast of Treasuring." Treasuring here is the act of loving your pets or your personal objects. Basically, this implies that she loves humans in a way that denies them of their humanity, which exactly what she complained Skadi was doing. This will become a recurring point as we go along.
Next, we have SIN, where she kinda got to be a main companion and showed a lot in terms of character. Here's where her proud capitalist gimmick gets fully consolidated, with the reveal about her monster collection, her rigid adherence to her deals, and her speech to Akuta about everyone is either a client or a product to her. The Akuta part is interesting because she does it out of genuine empathy for a fellow non-human who tried to live among humans, even if she stops liking Akuta the moment she pushes back.
But the most important character moment for Koyanskaya here is her criticism of Shi Huang's dehumanizing antics. She claims to hate humans, but she can't stand the thought of seeing humanity reduced to worthless and lethargic cattle. But the curious part here the wording used in her criticism. She claims Shi Huang's love for his subjects is simply "treasuring their pets". In her most scathing speech ever, she calls the Emperor exactly what her principle as a Beast implies she is supposed to be.
In Yuga Kshetra, Koyanskaya doesn't do much aside from some covert support to get the people to rebel against Altjuna, being Daybit and Pepe's vehicle, and giving some exposition about the overarching plot of Cosmos in the Lostbelt. She criticizes the Lostbelt's flaws as usual, but not nearly as much as Pepe does.
There is one interesting reveal about her here though: her objective is to become a brand-new Nine-Tailed Beast, rejecting everything she has in common with Tamamo Original. Thinking back to Koyanskaya's CCC origins, the Tamamo Nine were created when Tamamo Original turned Nine-Tailed to save Hakuno and then discarded her no longer necessary tails into Imaginary Number Space. Koyanskaya was born as garbage Original discarded, so it makes sense that she wants to accomplish something that makes her into a greater being by her own merits while rejecting her share attributes with the one who denied her value.
From this point, I'll go into FGO JP and Houshin Engi spoilers. Don't worry, I'll properly mark where the Houshin Engi part starts.
Atlantis didn't have Koyanskaya, but her content in Olympus was huge. Her once-per-chapter section of Lostbelt criticism felt like a repeat of her commentary on Shi Huang, and while she doesn't directly call Zeus's actions "treasuring pets", Europa does, it fits on the recurring trend, so it fit the trend of Koyanskaya expressing the most contempt towards enemies who follow what she claims to be her principle as a Beast.
And when she meets with Chaldea, Holmes makes a vague statement about how she ultimately be his greatest enemy. Not Chaldea's greatest enemy, Holmes's enemy specifically. After that, he exposes her as a Beast, and she reveals she's not an apostle of the alien god, but rather its business partner, working with it on equal terms according to the following contract:
I (Koyanskaya) will not eliminate you (U-Olga). You will not understand me. We shall abide by each other’s principles as we determine this planet’s destination.
The content of the contract is a really interesting reveal that sheds new light on a lot of her previous unusual behavior. The fact her demand in the deal is not to be understood indicates that she has been lying about her thoughts and intentions in her interactions with the apostles, and maybe even the Crypters. It also explains her status as a challenge to Holmes because someone with a big secret and he's the guy who exposes secrets as naturally as he breathes.
My theory is that the purpose of the contract lies in the second part: "We shall abide by each other’s principles." We don't know what principle Olga is forcing upon Koyanskaya, but we know she's forcing the principle of Treasuring upon Olga. Maybe her contempt against Shi Huang, Zeus, and Skadi is because "treasuring" is a fake principle she's trying to enforce on a more dangerous Beast for her purposes. And her demand not be understood is because she needs to hide that she's lying about her Beast principle.
Another interesting thing to note is that the name of her Noble Phantasm is "evil star", the name of the satellites Shi Huang dropped from their space Great Wall of China. This could be a simple mockery of her most hated enemy, but another interpretation is Tayuskapon taking Shi Huang as her golden example of what a real Beast of Treasuring would be like.
Heian doesn't have Koyanskaya but has a cameo encounter with Fujiwara no Takako, who is revealed to be the same fox as Daji and Tamamo no Mae. In this encounter, Fujimaru's bond with Tamamo allows them to see the ears and tails through the then Takako's illusion. I'm taking this as foreshadowing to Fujimaru's bond with being what allows them to see through Koyanskaya's own lies and finding out whatever her true principle might be.
With all that covered, let me talk about Houshin Engi to further my speculation. As you might remember, early this year, when I finished Houshin Engi, I wrote a post begging you to read Houshin Engi, and there I gave a quick overview on how much the series inspired Nasu's work, with their most notable similarities being in Daji's personality.
Well, endgame spoilers here, but the manga's version of the Chinese gods are aliens, and the final arc has Nuwa as an alien god with direct contact with the planet's soul, attempting to reset human history because wrong choices were made. Very familiar with Olga's situation, no?
In the original myth, Daji was a fox monster sent by the goddess Nuwa to bring the Yin Dynasty to ruin, and never had her loyalty to the goddess put to test. In Houshin Engi, on the other hand, while Daji followed her contract to the alien goddess for centuries, her ultimate goal was to exploit a moment of vulnerability during the Nuwa battle to connect with the planet’s will and essentially replace her as Type-Earth.
In the end, Daji actually achieves her goal (because Fujisaki really hates to see a girlboss losing that much) and proceeds to do nothing bad with her newfound power. The big reveal is that, much like Fate/’s Tamamo, Houshin Engi’s Daji is perfectly capable of committing all sorts of evils with no remorse or hesitation if she needs to, and might even enjoy her own atrocities, but her maliciousness is limited to means, not ends. When left to their own devices, both Daji and Tamamo show themselves to be surprisingly harmless.
If Koyanskaya is as much of a walking Houshin Engi reference as she’s presenting herself to be, the answer to her mystery is that she’s playing an overtly villainous character as part of a ruse to thwart Olga’s objective at the last minute, her true nature is a lot closer to Tamamo Original than she lets on (although her greed for power and enjoyment of torturing humans are genuine), and she’s exploiting her contract to orchestrate her competitor’s ultimate defeat.
