"love doesn't always arrive with grand gestures. Sometimes it comes tucked inside a box, hidden between you're favourite snacks and a handwritten note that simply says, "I'm here"

You didn't notice the front door opening, you were curled up beneath your duvet, the room lit only by the soft glow of your bedside lamp. The book in your lap hadn't been read in over half an hour, your thoughts spiralling around, wandering too far away for you to focus on the words.
The past few weeks had been difficult, some mornings, the simple task of getting out of bed felt impossible. Other days, simply answering a text felt like it was draining every ounce of energy you had.
You hadn't told Jongho everything. you didn't have to. He noticed the little things. The way your smile lingered a little less, the untouched mugs of tea scattered around the apartment. The cancelled plans.
The quiet apologises you whispered for things that never needed apologising for.
A gentle knock sounded on your bedroom door. "can I come in?"
You smiled to yourself faintly, "always"
the door opened slowly, jongho stepped inside carrying a large woven basket with both hands. It looked surprisingly heavy. "what...is that?"
He smiled softly, a small shy smile that always seemed reserved just for you. "I made you something"
he carefully set the basket on the bed between you. A cream coloured blanket peeked over the edge, alongside neatly arranged little packages tied with ribbons.
you blinked. "...you made me a hamper?"
he rubbed the back of his neck, suddenly looking a little embarrassed. "I wasn't sure what would help"
your chest tightened, almost aching in a way. "so... I thought maybe id rather gather a few things that make difficult days a little softer."
You looked down into the basket, your favourite herbal tea, hot chocolate sachets, a candle that smelled like vanilla and rain, a fluffy pair of socks. and a tiny plug penguin that made you laugh the moment you picked it up. "you named him yet?" jongho asked.
"you already named him didnt you?"
you smiled, "his name is ddori"
beneath the plush sat your favourite chocolate, a colouring book you'd mentioned months ago, new pencils, lip balm, tissues wrapped with a tiny ribbon, and a handwritten playlist card filled with songs he thought might feel comforting.
tucked between everything was a sealed envelope. "for when today feels especially hard" jongho said softly.
you're fingers trembled as you opened it, inside was a folded letter written in his familiar handwriting.
If you're reading this, today probably feels heavier than you'd like.
I know I can't take those feelings away.
But until the heavy days become lighter, id like to carry a little of the weight with you.
Drink some water if you can.
Eat something small, even if it's only one bite.
Wrap yourself in the blanket.
And remember that needing rest doesn't mean you've failed.
I'm proud of you for making it this far.
ill always be proud of you.
By the time you reached the end, tears blurred the words.
"im sorry" you whispered. He frowned. "What for?"
"for crying" Jongho gently took the letter from your hands before carefully folding it again. "I didn't make this to make you cry"
"I made it because I wanted you to have reminders of things that are easy to forget when your mind is being unkind"
He reached into the basket one last time. "oh"
He pulled out a small glass jar, inside were dozens of tiny folded pieces of pastel coloured paper. You looked at him with curiosity. "what's this?"
You unfolded the first note.
"you remembered to wake up today"
"lets order your favourite food tonight:
"this feeling won't last forever"
"come find me. ill make tea"
Your vision blurred again, tears falling down your cheeks. ""there are...so many"
he simply nodded. "one for every day I thought you might need a reminder"
you couldn't stop crying now, not because you felt broken but because someone had loved you so carefully. "so much of this" you whispered. "must have taken forever"
"I wanted every part of it to remind you that someone was thinking about you"
You reached for him without another word. Jongho immediately wrapped his arms around you, holding you close as though it were the most natural thing in the world. No rushing, no fixing. Just steady warmth.
"I wish I could make everything easier" he murmured into your hair.
he smiled softly, his hands rubbing against your skin gently. "I can't promise every day will be easy"
"but I can promise you'll never have to face the hard ones wondering whether you're loved"
you held him a little tighter, outside the evening sky slowly darkened. Inside your bedroom, surrounded by tea, blankets, handwritten notes, and tiny reminders of hope. something shifted.
The difficult thoughts hadn't disappeared, but they no longer felt like they filled the entire room. Because wherever your eyes landed.
The blanket.
The plush penguin.
The jar of folded notes.
The letter tucked safely back into its envelope.
There was the same quiet message woven into each gift.
You are cared for.
And you never have to carry everything alone.
