Human Evolution
Human beings have been around for at least 100,000 years, and we have been eating various diets throughout this time frame. However, our body never adapted to eating meat. We are actually herbivores, our jaws move side to side which is something omnivores and carnivores cannot do.
Carnivores have short intestinal tracts and colons that allow meat to pass through the animal relatively quickly before it can rot and cause illness. Human intestinal tracts are much longer than those of carnivores of comparable size. Longer intestines allow the body more time to break down fibre and absorb the nutrients from plant based foods.
Atherosclerosis which is the hardening of the arteries occurs when we eat animal protein, this disease does not affect carnivores because they have biologically adapted. Cavemen would hunt for their meat and food because that was their way of survival however, in todays society we can walk to the store and buy meat, such a manly action. so why continue to eat mean? because we are consumed by our own culture and media channels that spread misinformation
Animal Cruelty
There is a famous quote which I absolutely love by Paul McCartney, “If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be a vegetarian.” a very true statement. How often do people say they are animal lovers, then eat a hotdog 5 minutes later? why are pigs any different from dogs or cats? All animals can feel pain just like we do, yet we choose to slaughter them for our taste buds.
A few hard facts for you to think about: over 100 million animals suffer and die per year as a result of cosmetic testing. Cows are raped to ensure steady stream of milk, and their babies taken from them immediately after birth. Male chicks that cannot lay eggs are killed the same day they hatch either by being gassed or thrown directly into a massive blender. Non of this needs to happen and together we can put an end to it.
