One year ago today I posted this practically shot Iron Giant photo I created using real figures, lighting, miniature sets & my trusty old tin foil for water technique & cotton wool for the splashes.
This is - legitimately - my favourite delivery of Shakespeare I have EVER seen (and I have seen some good-ass productions yo, in the Globe Theatre itself even). Like seriously, even though the words are unchanged, heâs stripped away ALL of the archaic pretense and assumed grandeur of ~presenting the bard~ that makes even the most wildly talented of actors and innovative of productions inherently inaccessible to a modern audience. Like, theyâre still great, they can still communicate the message and (some) of the nuance, but theyâre still always a step removed from being identifiable to any viewerâs lived experience. Theyâre still always reciting 15th century poetry. But this guy? This guy is like, screw iambic pentameter, to hell with being precious about the material, HOW WOULD AN ACTUAL PERSON SAY THIS SHIT?
Like this. And itâs beautiful. Itâs beautiful to hear a soliloquy I loved so much already, and have it come to life in a way it never, ever, did before. I feel like I grasp his motivations, his twists and turns, no longer on an academic level but on a visceral, instinctive one. Because heâs presenting his mental and emotional journey in a way that speaks honestly, like a real person.
So yeah, this shit post? I love it. Deeply and sincerely.

I do wonder if that specific charge is a play to put pressure on other countries - Particularly America who are doing nothing about their wealthy paedophile class.
If arresting people who committed the crimes detailed in the Epstein files would destroy the system, then maybe the system needs destroyed.
Congress is now considering the appropriations bill for the Department of Homeland Security, whose funding runs out at the end of January.
Call your members of Congress and tell them to vote NO on any bill that increases ICE's funding.
Please demand that the DHS appropriations bill prohibit ICE and Border Patrol agents from carrying guns and that it unambiguously declare that agents do not have absolute immunity under the law if they harm civilians.
Also tell them that any bill must restrict ICE and Border Patrolâs ability to conduct dragnet arrest operations and target people based on their race, language or accent. And the bill must clarify that ICE agents are liable under civil and criminal law if they harm civilians.
Do this as soon as you can.

The Time That Remains is available free on youtube (with baked-in English subtitles). It is a semiautobiographical film by Elia Suleiman, that follows his Palestinian family across the years from 1948, the beginning of occupation to the then-present day in four chapters. I highly recommend it, a favourite of mine.
This shit made me cry. It's so fucking unheard of for people to stand up for us right now â let alone anyone with power, let alone a politician, let alone a cis man â that I am bawling my eyes out on my couch after watching this. God bless this man.
I was expecting a simple statement of support, you know â the typical way politicians usually do that kind of stuff, not him actually going into trans history, honoring activists AND then offering up a concrete plan for improving trans people's material conditions in his city. His team did their homework.
We're too used to subsisting off of crumbs of support from public figures. More of this please.
A decade after lead-contaminated water was found in Flint's water system, the legal battle to replace lead water pipes is nearly finished.

The Flint water crisis began in 2014, after lead-contaminated drinking water was found to be leaching out from aging pipes into homes citywide.
The American Civil Liberties Union and the Natural Resources Defense Council, with help from other activists and nonprofits, have released statements on the recent progress, celebrating the milestone.
The statements which they chalk up the crisis to âcost-cutting measures and improper water treatment,â that the state âdidnât require treatment to prevent corrosion,â after a âa state-appointed emergency managerâ switched the water supply to the Flint River.
There is no safe level of lead exposure; each nanogram causes harm. In addition to long-known risks, such as damage to childrenâs brains and certain cancers, there is also significant evidence that exposure to lead is linked to numerous cardiovascular diseases, including stroke and heart attack.
The coalition mobilized the citizenry and filed a lawsuit against Flint and Michigan state officials to secure safe water. The result was a settlement in March 2017, under which a federal court in Detroit ordered Flint to give every resident the opportunity to have their lead pipe replaced at no cost, as well as conduct comprehensive tap water testing, implement a faucet filter distribution and education program, and maintain funding for health programs to help residents deal with the effects of Flintâs tainted water, according to the NRDC.
The coalition then returned to court six times in six years to ensure the city and state kept to the timeline, which was delayed by COVID-19, and other reasons which The Detroit News described as âspotty record-keepingâ and âineffective management.â
On July 1st, the State of Michigan submitted a progress report to a federal court confirming that, more than eight years after the settlement, nearly 11,000 lead pipes were replaced and more than 28,000 properties were restored where the maintenance had taken place.
Of the 4,200 buildings where lead pipes are known to still be in service, their owners have either left the properties vacant, abandoned, or have declined the free replacement under the Safe Water Drinking Act. The coalition has said it will continue to monitor city and state progress on these remaining lines.
âThanks to the persistence of the people of Flint and our partners, we are finally at the end of the lead pipe replacement project,â said Pastor Allen C. Overton of the Concerned Pastors for Social Action, one of the organizations that sued the city. âWhile this milestone is not all the justice our community deserves, it is a huge achievement.â
