2020 Daily Calendar
Growing up, there were always these kinds of Chinese calendars we could see at our parents’ or relative’s houses. It is part of our everyday life. I used those tear up paper for math homework. My mom used it for doodling when she was on the phone.
Five Metal Shop, a Taiwanese Design Studio took this ordinary object and gave a new spin. They stay true to the format – the see-through paper, the large type, lunar calendar, moon phase, and the fun illustration on special days. They gave it a new life with a modern twist.
I bought a lot of copies this year and gave them out as gifts. I still have a few copies. If you are interested, you can get it at my personal online shop. Use the code tumblr for 10% off!

Starting again in 2020
I can’t believe the last time i posted something was 2016 Oct.
So much as changed. A dear friend passed away, I became a mom. I changed job a few times. What doesn’t change is that i am still trying to figure out what keeps me engaged and fulfilled. I wouldn’t say i am wiser. But i would say i got better with uncertainty and unknown. Still sucks at a lot of things but i am ok with that.
Last October, I did a series of pixel doodles mostly around public transit for 30 days. I had a lot of fun. It reminded me the joy of making things. I’ve also learned i really like constraints.
So this year, I am going to start with color mediation—based on Lisa Soloman’s new book—A Field Guide to Color.
I’ll start posting them here and figure out where it leads me!

2015 was the beginning of my lettering journey.... see you all next year with new projects
364/365 Keep making things!!!!
363/365 Go Make a thing
From one of my favorite writer & designer, Jon Kolko.
Look, I Made a Thing: Confidence in Making is a must for any maker, or anyone like me 2 years ago...thinking i can’t do this drawing or lettering thing because i don’t know how to do it or i am just not good at it.
"So I made a thing, and it sucked, and I'll be at the bar." It's also a sometimes helpful, sometimes obnoxious directive I offer to pretty much any question. I don't understand the assignment. Go make a thing. My group isn't working. Go make a thing. I'm hungry. Go make a thing.
through humility, maybe now I'll come to terms with that personal conflict of pride and shame
