If your story has a slow middle, try this:

Add a reveal Raise a question Increase the stakes Expose a secret Give the character a hard choice

Middle chapters don’t need explosions. They need momentum.

If your first chapter is slow, it’s usually because you’re starting the story too early.

Start closer to the conflict. Readers want movement, not explanation.

Cut the unnecessary setup, keep the tension.

Strong characters don’t need to be perfect. They need to be consistent, motivated, and flawed in a way readers understand.

If you can explain WHY your character acts the way they do, readers will follow them anywhere.
