guys i don’t know about you but i am in DESPERATE need of some ragnor content, whether it be in the kickstarter or in TWP. he is just too good to be written off as a side character anymore

bonus: what are some of y’all’s theories about him? like who he actually was before he chose the name ragnor fell. i’ve heard multiple people say they think he grew up in Scotland, which i love. but i could also totally see him being a London boy

Ragnor being Scottish has always been my favorite guess for his background, but I think him being Scandinavian is also a strong possibility. If the throwaway line in TBC about his age is accurate, he was probably born in the late 1300s or early 1400s. We know he was raised in a loving two-parent family, and his face is described as “good-humored” in QoAaD, so I think his youth was mostly happy, and the hardships of being a warlock didn’t really start until after he stopped aging, which is probably when he chose his name.

(And I’m not sure if you’re quite this desperate for content, but if you don’t mind some of it leaning shippy, a lot of my fics are Ragnor-centric)

I like the Scandinavian possibility as well! I used to think that Ragnor being born and raised in London made more sense because he seems to have a particular affection for the city (and as we all know, it’s rare that Ragnor has affection for something), but the Scottish theory is growing on me! I saw someone on here recently saying they thought he was Scottish because he chose his warlock surname as ‘Fell’ which is a mountainous sort of structure in Scotland/Northern England (i’m from the US so i don’t know if that’s accurate) as a tribute to his homeland. Unfortunately, I don’t think we will ever truly know his history unless it’s revealed in Seasons of Shadowhunters, because I don’t really see how Cassie could/would write it into the plot of TWP. I wish we could have more hints that would give us a more definitive answer, like maybe an accent, but Kit says in QoAaD that Ragnor has a “pure” voice with no trace of any sort of inflection. I guess it will ultimately just be left up to our interpretation!

I will definitely check out your fics! There is never enough Ragnor content anywhere, so you are doing gods work!

Ragnor’s thing is he’s an expert at dimensional magic and has been studying it for hundreds of years. He’s few and far between in this way and very powerful, and he’s older than Magnus.

In TWP we know Thule is going to be involved, and likely the wards around their own world/dimension will be a problem. I think (HOPE) this will mean Ragnor will be very involved and could play a bigger role!! I mean why have it be so important if not to use it now, in the biggest problem the shadow world will ever face? And with Thule as a big source of conflict? He’s the most knowledgeable on all of this, and he’s the one who helped Kit and Ty with raising Livvy, and now everyone knows he’s alive.

I absolutely agree with this!! I feel like all signs point to him playing a huge role in TWP, especially with the relationship he already has with Kit and Ty. He has also been quite involved with Kit’s heritage, so I feel like we will definitely see him in action in TWP!
