I've been studying botany lately for the art book I'm working on, and, while not getting tooo bogged down in scientifically accurate things, still happily trying to apply some little details while drawing the flowers in my recent pieces :D thinking about what makes each specific flower itself.... that sort of thing 🌸🌺🌼🌻🌷🌹
have you guys heard about the greenland shark. some crazy shit happening there.
they are sexually mature at ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY YEARS OLD.
their (live!) young gestate for. wait for it. eight to eighteen (??) YEARS. can have up to 10 at a time. good grief.
longest lifespan of any vertebrate, up to five hundred years
toxic flesh
has giant eyes but is usually blind because of a weird little crustacean that's evolved to live on and eat their eyes. this doesn't seem to bother them much.
lives in deep cold water and has the lowest swim speed and tail-beat frequency for its size across all fish species. just generally lives life in extreme slow motion
largest genome of any shark
eats everything including moose and polar bears
ma'am you are delightfully strange and I'm privileged to share a planet with you
this post prompted me to refresh my memory on Greenland Shark Facts and this detail about how they feed goes so hard
just vacuuming up their unsuspecting prey. whole !
Good news good news good news! Recent research suggests the eye parasites do NOT blind them!
Dorota Skowronska-Krawczyk sits in her office, eyes fixed on the computer monitor in front of her. "You see it move its eye," says the UC Ir
I <3 you a normal amount Greenland sharks

Don’t mind me just thinking about the hole in the middle of the United States where Chipping sparrows refuse to fuck
Chipping sparrows prefer woodlands, even sparse ones, to open plains. Many populations prefer to build their nests in or near evergreens for added protection.
The eastern plains of Colorado look like this
The panhandle of Texas, for the most part, looks like this
Plus a handful of sparse canyons.
Nesting on the ground with zero protection would absolutely not benefit these birbs, but it would benefit the local predator population.
Don’t mind me just thinking about the hole in the middle of the United States where Chipping sparrows refuse to fuck
*gets different kinds of pseudoscience confused* you only use 10% of your brain until you're 25
this is actually a common misconception; the truth is that by the time you're 25, you've EXPENDED 10% of your brain ON AVERAGE. Neurons are single-use. Every time you think, it burns up a little bit of your brain. To use all of it, the average person would need to live to be 250, but it varies wildly depending on how much a person thinks. If you're prone to overthinking, most doctors recommend a brain transplant some time in your mid-fifties, and for many politicians— who are required to hold a large number of contradictory thoughts simultaneously— the brain can be expended as early as your thirties. That's why Kennedy's head did that.
my nothing
friend: please drink tonight you're so weird when you're sober
me: i promise i'll be regular
friend: okay as long as you promise
me: (zero beers in) (unprompted) the humble mole can dig up to 100x its body weight in soils each day. The humble mole can survive on a single worm for 80 nights. The humble mole can meditate for 1001 moons uninterrupted. The humble mole can forgive.
Everyone liked my sober mole post. 🙂
if i were in charge of star wars i would end the last movie witth yoda reading the story out of a big book and he gives a little chuckle and says "happened, none of that did." and then he gets out of his truck and waddles into walmart
I like to say "my mises! They're not en place!" sometimes when I forget something while cooking but no one ever thinks it's funny
