Entoloma philocistus Hauskn. & Noordel. is a species of basidiomycete that belongs to the family Entolomataceae. It's a species that finds its main host in Cistus salvifolius, mainly in sandy environments. It is easy to distinguish from E.cistophilum, that grows in the same habitat by its darker pileus that is more cone shaped, the granular intracellular pigment of the subpellis and the spores that are not cuboid but have 5-7 angles. Aureoboletus moravicus ( Vacek) W. Klofac is a basidiomycete in the family Boletaceae. This one is truly unique for its fruity smell that reminds of coconut and the dry cap. Its pores are initially pinkish and then they become light yellowish with age. The section shows us its real nature: this ex Xerocomus has unchanging white flesh that shows a pink/brownish band right under the cap cuticle.Its pores are initially pinkish and then they become light yellowish with age. This feature is, surely not casually, found also in the other members of the genus Aureoboletus found in Europe: A.gentilis and A.projectellus. It is surprisingly macroscopically similar to A.roxanae that grows in NA and has a weak pungent smell (fide Besette). This species grows more often in alcaline soils, under Fagaceae(Quercus) and Arbutus. Not common but can be locally abundant. Neoboletus xanthopus (Klofac & A. Urb.) Klofac & A. Urb. is a Basidiomycete in the family Boletaceae. It is near to N.praestigiator (prioritary name of B.erythropus)but its habitus is more slender and the little granules that cover the stipe are in average more little than this species, another difference is the frequently yellow spotted cap and in average a little bit less velvety cap. Little is known about the microscopical differences between these two species but it seem that spores have different dimensions and Q. For what concerns the habitat N.xanthopus seems to be more common in siliceous soils (e.g.Basalt, Granite derived) in mediterranean areas under Fagaceae and Arbutus and grows along with B.aereus and S.mendax. N.praestigiator seem to be bound to both Pinaceae(Picea and Abies mainly) and Fagaceae (Tilia also?) on siliceous soils, in more cool climates. Calvatia booniana A.H. Sm. is a Basidiomycete in the family Agaricaceae. Its stature and general appearance could make us mistake it for C.gigantea, a near species that is usually bigger, but its esoperidium is not intact but fractured in more or less big plaques. Micro features don t help us a lot as the only difference seems to be that C.gigantea has slightly more asperulate spores. These wonderful specimens were collected near the west coast of France by Michel and his wife. It grows during summer/early autumn in pastures. Lanmaoa fragrans (Vittad.) Vizzini, Gelardi, Simonini is a Basidiomycete inside the family Boletaceae. It is characterised by its brown velvety cap cuticle, its often irregular edge of the cap, the tiny yellow pores with relatively thin tubules in section that show no depression near to the stipe, the stipe is almost always without a network but very often with warm reddish colors. In section the yellowish flesh stains more or less intensely to blue/green. Boletus aereus Bull. : Fr is a species of basidiomycete in the family Boletaceae. It belongs to genus Boletus that now only contains only the so called "porcini", "cep", etc... so basically all the initially white pored boletes with full stem, initially white pores and unchanging white flesh. The species inside this genus have a particular more or less strong smell and a nutty taste. This particular species is possibly one of the most fragrant and also one of the best in the kitchen. It is recognised mainly by its very variable pattern of the cap that can vary from black to bronze color(hence the name), almost always with spots differently colored, almost like a tortoise. The stem is usually dark, darker than in B.aestivalis(near species), usually with a network visible at least in the upper third of the stipe. Dermoloma cuneifolium Singer ex Bon is a basidiomycete belonging to the family Tricholomataceae. It is white spored with inamyloid spores. The genus is characterised by having an hymenoderm pileipellis that gives the pruinous loot to the cap and by a farinous smell. The similar species inside the genus all have amyloid reactions. Xerocomellus chrysenteron ( Bull.) Šutara is a species of Basidiomycetes in the family Boletaceae , it is mainly found under Pinaceae (Picea and Abies mostly) and bound to continental climates. Its main features are smooth spores , cracking cap with lighter marginal color , pink flesh in the cracks , reddish stem and more or less unchanging yellowish flesh , vinaceous in the lower part of the stipe. X.cisalpinus, a near species, is differtiated by its habitat mainly under Fagaceae (especially Quercus) and by its slow but strong staining from pore level downward visible in cross section. Not found in Sardinia. Common in northern Italy from august to october. At first sight this little Cistus associated species could be mistaken for a Inocybe species but the often different form of the spores and their ornamentation makes it easy to distinguish between the genera. Leccinum duriusculum(Schulzer ex Kalchbr .) Singer is a Basidiomycete inside the family Boletaceae. The genus is characterised by a stem covered in floccules, often appendiculate margin of cap and its overall slender fruitbodies that often stain from pinkish to dark-violet. Most of the species inside it grow under Betulaceae with some exception that grows under Fagaceae (i want to point out that anyway both families belong to Fagales order) and Ericaceae. This species grows under Populus spp. and is characterised by its grey appendiculate cap and its dark violet staining that help distinguish it from L.scabrum , an unstaining birch bound species. Rubroboletus satanas (Lenz) Kuan Zhao & Zhu L. Yang is a basidiomycete inside the family Boletaceae. It is characterised by its big stature (even 20-30cm of cap diameter), an unpleasant smell in mature specimens and by the olivaceous tinges in the cap cuticle. Its reticulated stipe moreover is normally divided into two areas of colors: the upper part near the pores is yellowish and the lower part (3/4) is red. It only grows on calcareous soils under Fagaceae. Poisonous, it can cause severe Gastrointestinal syndrome if ingested raw, possibly all of its co-genus brothers are also poisonous. That said as a warning, in Sicily and in Abruzzo (Italy) it is consumed after various laborious processes that involve parboiling and salt. Amanita verna (Bull.: Fr.) Lamarck is a basidiomycete in the family Amanitaceae. It is a southern european deathcap that produces fruitbodies during spring. It has a yellow chrome reaction to KOH that helps separate this species from white forms of Amanita phalloides. It is very common in Sardinia under oak from March to June. 50 grams of this species have enough alfa-amanitins to kill an healthy 70 kg man. It kills mainly because of confusions with Agaricus or because of almost paranormal and purely senseless traditions on how to separate edible mushrooms from the poisonous ones (silver spoon submerged with them when cooking remains of the same color or not, all white mushrooms are edible during spring, if animals eat them it is edible). Suillellus mendax (Simonini & Vizzini) Vizzini, Simonini & Gelardi is a basidiomycete in the family Boletaceae. The entire genus Suillellus its characterised by its strong amyloid reaction of the flesh, its often red pores, its often slender habitus and the often red flesh present at the base of the stem and right under the pores (see picture). This species seems to be a southern one, associated with Fagaceae, especially Quercus. Its cap is often reddish and often fading to olivaceous with age, its pores are of a brighter red color if you confrount them with those of S.luridus (near species), its stem is often red with red reticulum (luridus has a red reticulum on yellow background) that can be also not present even if it is normally found. In the lower part of the stipe we can observe in certain conditions one of the distinctive features of this newly described species: its granulation, similar to the one found in Neoboletus praestigiator (=B.erythropus). Callistosporium luteoolivaceum , a species in the family Tricholomataceae. It is a collybioid white spored and it usually grows on pine stumps.
