AO3 Writer Affirmations:
I do not have to reinvent the wheel every time I write fanfiction
I do not have to make every chapter's word count above 1,000 in order for it to be good
It is okay if some things don't make sense
I can write whatever I want
I am writing this shit for free
If people don't like my stuff, they can block me. If they're being mean about it, I can block them.
The most important part of writing fanfiction is having fun
Writing fanfiction is supposed to be fun
I do not have to appeal to people
This shit is fun
I am doing this all for free, and anyone who objects can go eat wet sand and worms from the sidewalk
'A popular fanfic author stopped updating her fic because she said that the stress of being constantly falsely accused of using AI was a witch hunt and it was destroying her mental health to the extent that she needed to take a break from writing, leading to multiple online discussions defending her and debates about AI accusations and how You Can't Really Tell So Leave Her Alone, and then someone realised that there were Claude coding artefacts in her fics and that it was a super pervasive problem in that particular fandom, proven definitively by looking at the source coding of each work on AO3, and she denied it for a bit but then ultimately admitted that oopsie, she had been using genAI all along, and then she deleted all of her fics off AO3 and people got mad because they were being denied access to their favourite fics, even though they now knew definitively that they were genAI slop, and then it turned out that she'd actually stopped updating the fic on AO3 in the first place because she'd been shopping it around to agents and editors as an original work with the serial numbers filed off, and she'd been in conversations with a publisher which ultimately got dropped because she'd lied to them about her AI use' oh cool, so we're in Hell, then
Let me be clear: if you use AI to write fanfic, paticularly if you do so in the hopes of snapping up a tradpub deal off the basis of the popularity of your worthless slop, then you are an absolute grade A ding-dong, and may the vengeful spirits of our beloved Spirk Elders haunt you via the medium of perpetual papercuts forevermore.
I am unaware of who this is referring to and feel like a small fishing boat that just saw the dorsal fin of Leviathan off the starboard bow
That is so extremely valid, and truly I wish that I had not myself plunged into the depths and seen the truth of the Leviathan (a gigantic plastic fish effigy that's broken off a derelict Fish & Chip shop and washed into the Atlantic: a harbinger of doom in its own synthetic tongue)
So many lessons in fandom and life boil down to make your own works for love of the game, don't go looking for ways to be an asshole to people, don't lie when people ask you something that challenges you to be better, and don't fucking cheat.
the unimaginable power of saying "huh, guess that's not for me" and moving on with your life
I just wrote 8 pages when I haven't written in months and was beginning to think I'd never be able to again. Idk what it is, but I am sharing and manifesting this energy for every writer who sees this. May you write 8 quality pages effortlessly and find joy writing once more
8 pages you say

Okay, so yesterday afternoon we had a double earthquake (7.2 and 7.5 with multiple aftershocks) in Venezuela. Fortunately, the place where I live wasn't affected, but Caracas and other states near the epicenter did suffer building collapses, and people are still missing.
You can see some pictures here (Instagram).
Many people lost their homes, and a state of alert was declared today (yesterday we even had the possibility of a tsunami, which thankfully is no longer present). Venezuela doesn't have the resources to recover, and the total losses are still unknown... please pray for us, we need it.
WAYS YOU CAN HELP VENEZUELA BY SHARING THIS INFORMATION:
My best friend helped me gather this information. If you have the time, we would greatly appreciate it if you could share it so it reaches the people who need it:
Gofundme: Emergency relief for Venezuela earthquake victims
(Argentina) Donations are being received here to send to those affected in Venezuela
Veterinary help for affected animals
More resources and information to help those affected by the earthquakes in Venezuela (images with information after the cut)
Most of this information is in Spanish, but we appreciate your help by sharing and donating if you have the opportunity.
Tbh I think the "but data centers are important infrastructure, not just AI" talking point misses that like
Ok so roads are important infrastructure. A lot of stuff that's important happens on roads. Now, let's imagine that quadrillionaire Matt Stench has decided that the next big tech innovation is the Wide Car. It's a car that takes up six lanes despite seating only one passenger.
The Wide Car is supposed to be the future, and everyone's going to be driving Wide Cars, even though nobody who makes Wide Cars is turning a profit. Employers are offering Wide Cars as an employee benefit, and getting "nah." Some employers are going as far as demanding their employees drive Wide Cars, and the result is that people take time out of their workdays to get in the mandatory gas usage for their Wide Car before driving home in a regular car.
In spite of the fact that the Wide Car is clearly set to fail, there's an enormous push to expand to twelve-lane roads to accommodate a bunch of Wide Cars that simply will not materialize. This is not an organic response to demand, but a speculative investment that amplifies the existing issues with road development for no good reason.
That is the problem.
Long-tongued, termite-munching numbats are no longer endangered due to decades of successful conservation efforts, the global authority on the status of the natural world says.
Also known as banded anteaters, the status of the pint-sized marsupial has improved to near-threatened on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List. ''Today's assessments show that long-term, strategic and collaborative conservation effort works,'' conservation biologistJohn Woinarski said on Friday. ''Without it, invasive cats and foxes will continue to drive Australia's small marsupials and native rodents to extinction.''

Dear video essay creators. A video analysis is when you analyze a piece of media. No no look at me. A summary, no matter how thorough, is not an analysis. An analysis requires you to draw conclusions about the media such as authorial intent, real-world parallels, discussion about themes/worldbuilding/character motivation, and so much more. You have to stop summarizing something and saying thatâs analysis. The Gaylors are doing more critical analysis than you. Is that who you want to lose to? The gaylors?
don't make me get out the dang pyramid
I knew it. I wasnât crazy. A male and female character can have the most adorable PLATONIC dynamic in the world and there still will be delusional folks who claim that they have ""tension"" or that they have romantic interest in one another. Ship characters all you want, but itâs not lost on me how many of you PHYSICALLY canât perceive women on screen as anything but potential love interest for male heroes, and will claim any sort of bond between a female and male character as romantic. A girl/woman canât ever have a male friend or a found family brother or a father without people claiming she wants to fuck them. Itâs kinda misogynistic.
Some people in this fandom are so close-minded they confuse human connection and friction for lust and desire, and that shows.
Anyway, Jean and Peter are siblings now and Frank is the uncle, cry about it. Not everything is about romance.
whenever Iâm having a rough day I think about this scene in Spider-Man Homecoming and gain the strength to thug it out
Prompt-based fandom events are when you really learn everyoneâs colors like youâll find the people who take the prompt âdeathâ and come up with some smarmy ship-art of character A and character B walking over dead leaves while wearing scarves and drinking hot cider and then youâll find the people who take the prompt âsunshineâ and write how a bright glint of sunshine reflected off the barrel of a gun is the absolute last thing character A sees before taking a bullet to the chest
you can lead a content creator to water but you sure as fuck canât make him drink
content creators, much like the elder gods, must not be given requests that can be left to interpretation, for the results bring madness upon the unwary
the internet seems like a distant dream
whatever we are on rn is not the internet. It's ads
i think it's tempting to be defeatist about this, but everyone is a few easy google searches away from fixing their surfing experience. adblockers are good. dns-based ad and tracker blocking is easy to set up with a little effort. browser extensions will reign in cookies and scripts. your internet surfing experience CAN be ad-free, and faster because your browser is not loading 293847 scripts and running auctions in the background to see who gets your data. but you have to put in a modicum of effort.
1) people should not have to put effort into not having their data taken and sold from them
2) even with all the ad blockers in the world they still get through because nothing is 100% especially with sponsored content (and ESPECIALLY when it's not flagged as sponsored content)
3) sometimes you will have to use devices that aren't your own and that you can't just download adblockers on, like public computers
4) stop making this out to be an issue created by the individual when it's the fault of megacorporations polluting the online sphere with bloat that wastes actual material energy and resources for pointless advertisements
5) I am allowed to vent
indie game protagonists be like fuckkkk ive got to perpetuate the unending cycle tomorrow
