my advice to any current students in florida (as a former student in florida) irt house bill 233: fucking lie. do not be an idiot and put “socialist” or “communist” on that survey. put “moderate” or “conservative.” they can’t prove that you aren’t, after all. your school and you will not benefit from telling florida the truth about what you believe.

I don’t know all the details, but spoiling the result may be the best move here. If the results come back with a ton of communists, conservatives will use that as fodder for more fear mongering. If they come back with a ton of conservatives and moderates, they may use that as proof that conservative students aren’t being heard. Quizzing students about their political affiliation is already dubiously legal, so the best move may be to emphasise that and mock the process. If you have to be serious, put Democrat so they can’t scaremonger as easily. If not, screw em.

PSA: Please Don’t Kick Automatic Door Buttons

I use a wheelchair.

Since COVID started, I’ve seen people kick automatic door buttons to avoid using their hands. This is horrible for me, since these are high touch areas I cannot avoid.

People who can walk can elbow those buttons, but they are often too high for me (a seated person) to do that - meaning that sometimes I have no choice but to use my hands. And if the bottom of your feet has touched that button, that is negating any efforts I’m making to keep my hands clean.

Since I basically have to use my hands for everything, and many wheelchair users are in the COVID “high risk” category, this is really bad.

I would really appreciate if people used their elbows, or literally any other part of their body to press the button. Just not your feet.

Yes, Black men in majority white spaces do. If I don’t smile every single second of the day my coworkers become in intimidated and start asking me what’s wrong, telling me to smile, make jokes about how I’m trying to be a thug/act hard, why am I angry, etc. And it’s not just white men at my job God FORBID I my large Black ass makes a white girl feel threaten because I’m sitting down with a neutral expression.

I’m not trying to take this post away from women and make it about Black men but I want to point out that wether it’s patriarchy or white supremacy; those who feel as if they have power over you HATE to see you not smile. They are so used to people like you smiling to gain their approval that when you don’t there’s a cognitive dissonance that makes them extremely uncomfortable.

That’s why “angry Black women” is a thing. They have to put on a smile for everyone (yes even feminist white women) or we all get uncomfortable.
