anyone else ever daydream for 6 hours straight and then after ur just like nah let’s scrap that and do it all again but slightly to the left
my brain: *out of breath* Was that good?!
Me in a beret, taking a long draft from a cigarette and leaning back in my director’s chair: once again, from the top, this time with feeling
Oh no, that emotionally devastating scene would have been so much more impactful if it had happened earlier. Better go back to the same kernel of daydream I’ve been basing every daydream of the last three weeks on and do it right this time. If I’m not swallowing back tears at Starbucks, I’m gonna have to figure out another way to emotionally gut myself.
I feel so called out
But then when you get it right..
me for the past 7 years
by the old tree on the hill, you’ll find a lonely ghost who talks to the moon
so yeah i mean more bad art from lemon
so basically what youre telling me is that nightcrawlers are just baby mothmen
like this? come here babys
Nightcrawler sightings are just mothman chicks that are getting close to fledging and have snuck out of the nest for a little explore. Their baby plumage makes them easy to spot at night.

hidden injury + reveals why is your whumpee hiding their injury, where is it, how did they get it, how severe is it and most important how long can they go without giving away that something is wrong to their team
Ok I’ll play…
The villain has threatened to hurt members of the team if the whumpee doesn’t deliver classified information. So he’s been secretly meeting the villain to try to negotiate and avoid harm befalling the team. So far he has just bought time by receiving a beating himself.
The villain has kept wounds hideable until now. The whumpee has worn long sleeves to cover his wrists where he’s been restrained with cable ties. Being careful to stand near something to lean on so it doesn’t show how much effort it’s taking to stay upright.
Frankly the villain enjoys the thought that the whumpee is struggling to hide injuries and is carrying the shame of voluntarily meeting the villain. They liked the thought of the whumpee making excuses and becoming more withdrawn. Not being able to get any help.
But the villain is increasingly frustrated at not getting a satisfactory response and the beatings and pressure has escalated.
The more it’s continued the more outrage there would be from the team for willingly meeting with the villain. They would feel betrayed. And the more harm would come to the team if the whumpee told them now.
The last time had gone much further. The whumpee has a deep cut on their forearm and they struggled to stop the bleeding. It was serious. Their torso is a mess of deep bruises. He suspects a cracked rib and it’s hard to breathe. He didn’t have time to bandage his arm properly before having to meet the team. He just wrapped medical tape around his forearm with shaking hands and pulled a dark long sleeve top on to hide any blood that seeped out. He couldn’t be late to this particular meeting, he’d steal some medical supplies on the way out.
At the meeting team member A is eyeing the whumpee as he can’t seem to focus on the conversation. He isn’t concentrating and isn’t speaking. Looks are exchanged amongst the team. Team member A reaches out to ask if whumpee is ok, touching their injured arm.
Whumpee flinches in pain and pulls away. Shocked, A sees blood on their fingers. They demand to know why whumpee is hurt. What’s going on! Whumpee staggers backwards, nearly falling. The whole team is involved now, surrounding whumpee who is still trying to hide their arm.
Team member A forcefully pulls back the sleeve to reveal a deep bleeding wound and cries out with shock at the blood. They can see all the the marks from the restraints and grab the whumpee’s other arm to check that too. The further up A pushes the sleeve the more painful injuries they see.
Whumpee is overwhelmed from pain, loss of blood, and the fact it’s all been revealed. Terrified what will befall them all now. He slumps down, unable to hold it together any longer.
The team unbuttons his shirt to try to see the extent of the injuries, still clueless as to where they have come from. Whumpee makes no further moves to stop them. Their hands hold his body, touch his bruises, cradle his face as they try to get him to look at them. But he’s too out of it to focus.
Whumpee passes out and the team have to assess his injuries and stitch up the wound while he’s unconscious. They feel shocked and ashamed that there are injuries on the whumpee’s body that are older but they had no idea about. They’d have to find out the full story when whumpee regains consciousness. In the mean time they can only imagine what might have been happening for so long.
look, im just a slut for some magical exhaustion okay give me your whumpees overusing their magic and having physical repercussions from it, bloody noses, unable to stand, getting progressively weaker, utterly exhausted and spent !!
bonus points: if they know they are running low on magic but they have no choice but to keep using more until they just collapse
bonus bonus points: if their magic is somehow connected to their life force!!
Whump Prompt #66
A wounded character desperately stumbling, crawling, and lurching towards escape. Clinging to their wound, their breath coming in short, hitching gasps because they can’t be too loud or they’ll be caught, oh god they’ll be caught, they’ll be caught they’ll be caught they’ll be caught-
Collapsing a few feet from safety, trying to get up but they can’t because they’re bleeding and it hurts, it hurts so much, and they need help and god, they can’t even get up, why did they ever think they could escape?
Whump Prompt #239
submitted by anon - thanks!
I have a sudden desire to whump my caretaker. Any ideas?
(c = caretaker)
1) C going out to restock supplies but getting taken/ hurt on the way back and end up using some of them to patch themselves up enough before they get back to the compound.
2) C rushing A into the ER after a fight leaves A with a stab would but C doesn’t realise their own injuries and ends up being in worse shape and collapsing unceremoniously in the middle of the hospital corridor.
3) C sacrificing medical supplies in a difficult situation but leave none for themselves and eventually pass out due to blood loss.
4) C getting the virus they are desperately trying to cure but still gives the antidote to those first infected before nearly succumbing to the illness…
good shit: when a character with a reputation for being selfish and uncaring gets injured while doing something to protect others
good shit: when they pretend they’re not injured and did nothing to protect anyone, because they want to keep up that selfish reputation
good shit: when the characters they were protecting only find out about any of this when the character collapses from the injuries they’re trying to hide
Writing Traumatic Injuries References
So, pretty frequently writers screw up when they write about injuries. People are clonked over the head, pass out for hours, and wake up with just a headache… Eragon breaks his wrist and it’s just fine within days… Wounds heal with nary a scar, ever…
I’m aiming to fix that.
Here are over 100 links covering just about every facet of traumatic injuries (physical, psychological, long-term), focusing mainly on burns, concussions, fractures, and lacerations. Now you can beat up your characters properly!

Tourniquet use: Controversy around it, latest research
Location pain chart: Originally intended for tattoo pain, but pretty accurate for cuts
General note: Deeper=more serious. Elevate wounded limb so that gravity draws blood towards heart. Scalp wounds also bleed a lot but tend to be superficial. If it’s dirty, risk infection. If it hits the digestive system and you don’t die immediately, infection’ll probably kill you. Don’t forget the possibility of tetanus! If a wound is positioned such that movement would cause the wound to gape open (i.e. horizontally across the knee) it’s harder to keep it closed and may take longer for it to heal.
Broken bones
Types of fractures
Setting a broken bone when no doctor is available
Healing time of common fractures
Broken wrists
Broken ankles/feet
Fractured vertebrae: Neck (1, 2), back
Types of casts
Splints
Fracture complications
Broken noses
Broken digits: Fingers and toes
General notes: If it’s a compound fracture (bone poking through) good luck fixing it on your own. If the bone is in multiple pieces, surgery is necessary to fix it–probably can’t reduce (“set”) it from the outside. Older people heal more slowly. It’s possible for bones to “heal” crooked and cause long-term problems and joint pain. Consider damage to nearby nerves, muscle, and blood vessels.
Concussions
General overview
Types of concussions 1, 2
Concussion complications
Mild Brain Injuries: The next step up from most severe type of concussion, Grade 3
Post-concussion syndrome
Second impact syndrome: When a second blow delivered before recovering from the initial concussion has catastrophic effects. Apparently rare.
Recovering from a concussion
Symptoms: Scroll about halfway down the page for the most severe symptoms
Whiplash
General notes: If you pass out, even for a few seconds, it’s serious. If you have multiple concussions over a lifetime, they will be progressively more serious. Symptoms can linger for a long time.
