Nolan’s Odyssey thoughts. I brought in a notebook and filled 9.5 pages of scribbled thoughts throughout the three hours I was suffering. I hated this movie and I really tried to go into it with an open mind as much as possible and damn it really sucks. This movie really put the no in nostos.
(obviously spoilers ahead)
I am hoping that this is some sort of exaggeration or oversimplification because this is just blatant erasure of a major element of Greek culture and replaced by a more Christian version and I want to bang my head into a wall. That’s not what xenia is, and you just erased a major part of the Odyssey.
Now that everyone is discussing Nolan's Odyssey movie, I feel like it's a good time to let non-Italians know that the production dumped plastic props into the Italian sea. Weirdly enough I could not find any article in English about it but it's a fucking problem nonetheless.
I might translate this article later today. This one was the most complete one, even in Italian news it's not talked about that much.
Non è la prima volta che la produzione solleva un vespaio in Sicilia. A Lipari una squadra di sub sarebbe però già impegnata a bonificare i
They dumped plastic skeletons in environmentally protected areas, against the literal contracts they had to sign to get the permits to film in environmentally protected areas. Like they not only did a bad ecological thing that freaked out some divers, they literally broke environmental protection laws and their contract with the Italian government
They also filmed in illegally occupied territories in western sahara
Sahrawi filmmakers criticise Christopher Nolan for complicity in Moroccan exploitation of Sahrawi land
funny thing about anxiety is sometimes it kind of breaks your sense of danger. like i am known for repeatedly putting myself in situations that make my friends go "bro you couldve died. werent you scared?" and the answer is 👍 yjeah. i did it scared. i do everything scared. i didnt know that was the actual important kind of scary because i usually have to ignore my fears to function in society. it will happen again. watch out.
I do enjoy a good visual gag, and an old favorite of mine is “there is Math on a Board in the background that contextually makes no sense.” This broadly comes in 3 flavors I enjoy:
• the board is in front of a classroom, and the Math is waaay too advanced for whatever level of pupil these kids are supposed to be; like having the calculus integral in front of kindergartners, or relativistic physics in front of high schoolers.
• the board is in front of Criminals, who are Planning Something, and by all rights there ought to be no Math there to begin with. Like. You’re planning a Heist why do you have the Full Lagrangian on there. Are we taking a rocket to the bank.
• the characters are super-genius science fiction people. The Math is “Pi≈3.24” with an unlabeled pie chart.
what the fuck do you mean your keyboard doesnt have letters
We have no letters Kathleen!
some 8ish years now i reckon
i have naturally acidic sweat. it's a family thing
we have already. They don't know exactly what is up with it, other than the sweat being slightly more acidic than normal and the acidic mantle being thicker and Way more acidic than normal, but it doesn't seem to have anything to do with acidosis. As far as we have tested, our family has had this since at least my great grandpa, and the guy lived to be 93 years old.
What the fuck.
op is a xenomorph descendant from that one time ripley fucked the queen
Because in its younger days it used to have RGB lights:
Some of them still work, when they want:
Though I've long forgotten how to change the color settings
NEVERMIND I JUST REMEMBERED HOW
Imagine trying to claim op is wasteful for using a plastic keyboard after they show off something that looks like it belongs at Old Friends Senior Keyboard Sanctuary.
Hey! OP here! I had no idea this post was still circulating after my old blog got terminated (two or three times, I lost count)! Guess what?
10 years and still going strong! Got rid of the rest of the paint on top of the keys too.
11 years and still holding up. Love your keyboard and it will love you back
I regret to inform that the windows key has died. luckily i managed to assign the numpad , key as the new windows key, which does sadly mean i need to have numlock off to use it.

see every time i see this status i get angry because i’ve played through literally every scenario in rct1 and there is no place where this is a thing. there is never more than one park per map. and in rct2 you can’t make that happen i the scenario editor either. it is not remotely within the game’s functionality to simulate two discrete parks and these games were coded in assembly for christ sake so it’s not like someone modded it in by adding the line “int const TOTAL_NUM_POSSIBLE_PARKS = 2;”. there is no conceivable way this post is anything close to true and even though i know how writing all this out reflects upon me as a person and even though i know exactly how meaningless and trifling of a takedown attempt this is on some random facebook screencap with hundreds of thousands of notes im going to post it anyway because i’m too petty to have any say in the matter
Hello person having transgender thoughts but convinced they aren't trans because they don't have the requisite amount of dysphoria they think they need
Hi I transitioned without even thinking I had dysphoria. Like later in hindsight I can go "oh that's probably what it was" but for the first year of my transition I was straight up like "I like being a guy but I like being a girl WAY more" and you can do that!! There is no prerequisite amount of suffering needed to make yourself happier.
Gonna include these tags cuz they're good
happy There Will Come Soft Rains by Ray Bradbury day
you have to be careful reading too many things that are good/smart/well-written bc then you encounter something that isnt and you get confused like ? why didnt they just make this good ? were they stupid
it does suck that the government defunded PBS but it's also so fucking funny that now that they don't take uncle sam's slavery dollars they're running videos like "How america's foundation was built on genocide"
no more being polite about it fuck the USA
Tangled au where 12/13 year old Rapunzel gets mad at Mother Gothel and in a fit of teen rebellion cuts her hair and that kills her, so the now orphan Rapunzel leaves the tower and stumbles into the Snuggly Ducking and is effectively adopted by the thugs. She works there as a barmaid and every year a couple of them take her to the outskirts on the kingdom to see the lanterns.
She isn’t found out to be the lost princess until
A) she goes into the kingdom to bail out one of regulars
Or B) after stealing the crown, Eugene, heads to the pub to keep low only to have a heart attack bc wtf is that the queen???
#this spawned a thoughts in my brain wherein Flynn gets caught &sentenced to death as in canon #and rapunzel decides to go big (and unknowingly) go home and shows up to save him by pulling the Anastasia Con 'i'm the lost princess!' #and as soon as she has secured his release is like OKAY HOW DO WE DO THIS #and he's like do what???? the lost princess con is a game! no one wants the risk of actually trying it! #and didn't you say it would be mean to do that to the king and queen?? #'that was before they tried to have you killed though? so lets figure it out fast! '#anyway they sit down to hash out Her Story and Flynn puts the timeline together and goes uhhhhh I think you might actually be her actually? #the orphanage didn't teach much math but he's been a thief long enough to know 2 plus 2 is 4. I actually do think it’s better for abusers and abusive characters to realize the harm their past actions caused and seek to do better than be literally or metaphorically executed for their crimes

I think it’s better for abusers and abusive characters to realize the harm their past actions caused and seek to do better than be literally or metaphorically executed for their crimes.
Reading comprehension test:
1. Does OP mention an obligation on victims to forgive abusers who have learned from their past actions?
2. Does OP mention any work on the part of victims to educate their abusers?
3. Is there any mention of “redemption” or “forgiveness” at all in this post?
Something about how society cares more about punishing the wicked than about making the world a better place, and how many people really struggle to shake that.
I mean, in some very interesting Technically Correct ways, they didn't actually die? Now, they're very much no longer alive. But the forces involved are such that they didn't get any of the usual cellular processes of death, they simply went from biology to physics in less time than it takes a signal to travel down your optic nerve.
if you go from biology to physics without dying first you don’t go to heaven the uber driver went over this
no i don't. cheers
So if yall didn’t know, in The Hobbit book, Thranduil had the Dwarves locked up for approximately weeks, and Bilbo was just invisible and wandering in the palace the entire time, vibing miserably.
My headcanon, therefore, is that the Mirkwood Elves now have a local legend about a ghost haunting Thranduil’s palace, never seen but generally thought to be harmless. Thranduil scoffs at the idea, but has been seen glancing around at the dark corners of rooms. Legolas fully believes in it and is known to say hello out loud when he enters an empty room, in case the ghost is nearby.
It’s not until Legolas joins the Fellowship that he figures out that the supposed ghost was actually an invisible Bilbo the whole time. He never tells Thranduil, because he thinks it’s funny to see his regal father unnerved by the idea of a ghost.
On the other hand: “Oh good, it wasn’t really a ghost,” followed by “It was the One Ring of Sauron, the most powerfully evil and dangerous artefact in the world, in my home, for weeks.”
"And Frodo's actual uncle used it to rearrange the banquet spoons that one time that we all still talk about."
world's most harmless nerd, haunting your pantry and judging your cheese choices while wearing world's most cursed artifact
which he uses to mope around like a hikkikomori and sneak cheese slices to inmates at the state prison
this is one of the funniest things i have seen all year, but it is implied at the end of the hobbit that bilbo revealed that he was the palace's ghost when he gave thranduil a necklace in repayment for all the food he stole while hiding.
however, the ring, of course, stayed a complete secret. so while the mirkwood elves know that bilbo was hiding in their palace while the dwarves were imprisoned, they don't know how.
conclusion: the mirkwood elves believe hobbits can turn invisible
The One Ring's power isn't specifically invisibility, the One Ring empowers your existing skills and abilities. It makes a warrior an unstoppable juggernaut, and it makes every single hobbit that's worn it able to turn invisible whenever it's put on. And an entire group of hobbits managed to hide from a ringwraith using a small overhang.
Conclusion: hobbits actually can turn invisible, they just normally don't have enough skill with it to be invisible on command, and the One Ring just makes their invisibility always on.
this is actually pretty close to cannon.
From the intro to LOTR 'concerning hobbits'
"They possessed from the first the art of disappearing swiftly and silently, when large folk whom the do not wish to meet come by; and this art they have developed until to Men it may seem magical. but Hobbits have never, in fact, practiced magic of any kind, and their elusiveness is due solely to a professional skill that heredity and practice, and a close friendship with the earth, have rendered inimitable by bigger and clumsier races."
