That is quite the cat collection, Lulain! So does erik-a-viking get to be the one that cleans the letterbox or
she-who-is is to thank for this delightful piece!
IâM CRYING THIS IS SO PERFECT. THANK YOU @she-who-is ! Adorable cats and great expression, thatâs what I need.
I am glad! :D
I think I need to draw more cats now⊠And maybe brave some more of this digital painting malarky ;) Thanks for having such a fun character to paint!
reblogging to the artblog for a change! ;)
Sketching silliness with a small troll!
Sketching a very young troll for funsies, for a little while. :) Edit - finished for now. :)
Alas, the tablet did NOT want to play nicely with the photoshop, my apologies that it only got as far as the sketch!
This little fellow has heard a rumour that two goats sometimes thunder out across the big rainbow bridge that leads all the way to Asgard, and we know how much trolls like a nice bit of goat now and then! Oooo! Could that be the sound of them approaching even now
(from the art blog :) ) This tiny dimwit is just so excited at the prospect of some goat, that he neglected do any more research about who they might belong to⊠(Also technically it wasnât his pot before, but finders keepers! Perfectly serviceable.)
For curiosity's sake, I tallied up the amount of minutes from the stages captured to the livestream, and added some extra time for the little tweaks afterwards. So this took me approximately 4-and-a-half to 5 hours, from go to whoa. (First sketch of the idea not included!)
Livestreaming..!
This is the rough sketch I did - now hoping to reproduce it in my watercolour/pen & ink style! Feel free to stop by for as long or as little as you like. (This process can take a while!) :)

{Loremaster Challenge} First Place Winner: The Arm of Zulâjin
Submitted by drawingformonkeys
"Volâjin, I tâink da Revantusk be up to SometâingâŠ"
The Arm of Zulâjin - a.k.a. the complete and utter headcanon of DrawingforMonkeys, feat. the missing limb of the Former Glorious Warlord (and Chieftain) of the Amani!
Known Lore, upon which the Headcanon is built:
Zulâjin severed his own arm during the mission to rescue him from the elves that held him.Â
Among his loyal followers, is one Mystic Yayoâjin, resident of Revantusk Village. The Revantusks were loyal supporters of Zulâjin, although reference to this was redacted in patch 4.0.3a (Cata).
As part of a former quest called Cannibalistic Cousins, Yayo said:
"⊠If Zulâjin were here, he would have destroyed the whole lot of them with a flick of his wrist - alas, Zulâjin has not yet returned and we are left to our own devices."
Huntsman Markhor, of the same village, is also quoted as saying:Â "Zulâjin shall return one day. Mark my words. Until then, we all hold our positions and do what we can to keep the forest troll population intact."Â (both of these quotes have been sourced from wowpedia.org.)
Body parts have been used to summon troll spirits. (Even if these are usually skulls!)
There is speculation about whether or not the spirit of a particularly exceptional troll may become âamong the Loaâ (While not official Lore it is mentioned on wowpedia as: speculation, observations or opinions possibly supported by lore or by Blizzard officials. - See Senâjin, father of Volâjin, on this site.)
The Zulâaman trailer shows an arm left lying on the ground, still in the shackle. Was it coincidentally seared at the same time by the same blade? It looks a bit burnt at the end. And as its living owner had quite a fair amount of sway with all of the Amani Loa, who knows what blood magic and spiritual powers might have helped keep it relatively well preserved for some amount of time?
Here entereth the Headcanon!
So⊠let us speculate that the severed arm may have been carried away by one of the trolls from the rescuing Warband, who returned at great personal risk to retrieve this greatly symbolic limb from the ruins! And also say that it was taken to Revantusk and given to the safe keeping of one Mystic Yayoâjin⊠(Possibly with the same spearblade that was used to sever it in the first place).
In the tiny village of Revantusk, a secret cult has grown around the arm, with Yayoâjin as the high priestess. I envisage her holding it aloft before sacred fires on certain days, as dancing and shouting and other trollish reverences take place.
In the picture, the fetish bound around the wrist is made from tufts of fur, feather, tooth, bone, and sinew, from animals representing Akilâzon (eagle), Janâalai (dragonhawk), Halazzi (lynx), and Nalorakk (the bear) - the four Amani Loa whose power was wielded by Zulâjin (as the final boss of the original ZulâAman raid).
It is worthy of note that the Amani never abused the Loa that they worshipped (primal beings that they called the âForest Gods), and were never chained (such as the Gurubashi were, to the will of Hakkar).
News of Zulâjinâs physical demise, after a period of despair, has served only to heighten the fervour of this worship. If we assume that the previously mentioned NPCs stilll believe what they used to say, and perhaps still do say⊠(just not to us!), then their words have an entirely new context. The arm is still carefully tended to and revered, and while it has atrophied somewhat, it is being preserved by the blood of Zulâjin (which was once an in-game element!), and the continued mystical practices of Yayoâjin (who is a reagent vendor, by the way). Sheâs probably got all manner of crazy voodoo stuff there, that we donât know about!
Most importantly it is believed that the arm still bears some of the Eâko (spiritual essence) of its former owner.
Futuristic extension of the Headcanon
In which the Arm is rejoined to a living HostâŠ
Unbeknownst to the outside world, the secret Revantusk cult of âThe Arm of Zulâjinâ also includes a select group of trolls who have been vigorous in their training, and the rigorous purification of their body and spirit, in the hopes of being chosen as âthe Oneâ.
In the ultimate ceremony, the warrior of greatest worth will be chosen to sacrifice their own arm via the original spearblade, and be made whole again with the arm of Zulâjin. At which point the spirit of Zulâjin, is called upon to take possession of the warrior - who has literally sacrificed his âselfâ for the âgreater goodâ - bringing about the prophesied Return. As an additional consideration, I thought that instead of ârenamingâ the warrior to Zulâjin outright, that whoever took up the arm might be granted âZul after their name instead, as an honour and rememberance of their sacrifice. e.g. If the warriorâs name was Shaka, he would subsequently be refered to as âShakaâZul.â

Judges note: We LOVED this entry. So much. There is so much meticulous detail and, obviously, a lot of consideration of in-game lore while being creative and exploratory. The entry took the smallest of details mentioned in passing in game and turned it into a very creepy, awesome, and totally plausible speculation for the fate of Zulâjinâs spirit and his infamous arm. The art is very well rendered as well! Tazâdingo and congratulations!
GASPU! Thankyou thankyou thankyou :D :D :D! Excuse me while I go and run around in giddy little circles for a while, hands - nay ARMS flailing! <3 <3 <3 <3Â
*more flailing arms* :D
For a friendâs special birthday. :)
(from my pen and ink art tumblr :) )
Currently livestreaming the next stage of this - the wash and colour - traditional mediums of pen, waterfast ink, and watercolour inks. :)Â - a birthday gift for a writer friend. :)http://www.livestream.com/drawingformonkeys
Reblogging from my arty site. :)
If you have any questions, feel free to ask! About NZ, my dinner, the media being used, useful stuff like that! Art will look slightly blurry on screen, thanks to the cheapie version of livestream vs my otherwise lovely camera!
Also playing mashups :) Stop by for a cuppa!
So yes, after about an hour and a half of mucking about in the little shop-of-photos, this was the outcome. If I were persistent (and not half asleep!) I would probably just keep noodling away at it. Mostly it's just an attempt at two-tone light and shadow, with my scruffmeister shaman, Uru, squinting at something in the dark!
Happy Flowers and Sausages Day! Zugzug.
Nok belongs to the lovely Tmirai!
Merry Christmas, and thanks for all the livestreaming!   :D
And for the last of the 60-second sketch challenges, WuW 07. Decided to try and concentrate only on the male forms for the last, as the "mixed" images were predominantly female. There are not so many good male lifemodel references on the site, I've decided. I augmented the session with the "60 second" cat sketches as well. I found them easier than the men! Anyway. 'Tis done! Normal sketching services will be resumed shortly... :)
Day 30! / WuW 06.
End of NaDraDaMo for this year!
That, combined with Inktober (which you can see on my main 'artsy' tumblr here), and the 100 days project (some of which is also viewable on that same tumblr) means that I have drawn or illustrated something for each day, for almost half the year! (which, in addition to other bits and pieces throughout 2013, is not over yet... ;D )
Day 29 / WuW 05
60 second sketches.
Day 28 / WuW 04
Part of me wishes I was drawing these longer than 60 seconds. I want to be getting muscle right, as well as the weight of the pose and shapes! It all went a bit silly towards the end of this day's practise. ;)
