hi there. welcome to my tumblr dedicated to my sona, named cryptid.

cryptid is my sentient droidsona (not related to star wars), of whom I will share writings of and commissioned work of. I also insert them as oc's into certain fandoms and have been currently working on a backstory for a death stranding oc. eventually, I plan on learning blender and posting original rendered art of them. mdni, occasional nsfw although not main focus of blog.

i eventually will attempt to learn blender so i can make my own art of them as well! i’m very new to this but im excited to meet new friends in this community.

the one thing i loved about playing through death stranding the second time was trying to imagine how john felt upon seeing sam for the first time in adulthood after not having seen him since the incident with cliff (and i think shortly thereafter too), and how nerve wrecking that must’ve been.

also, sam coming back from his first huge chiral event with cliff like “hey yeah there was this army man who’s looking for his bb”, i just know john was shitting his pants like

i’m gonna rave about osiris if that’s okay

the thing i love with osiris that wasn’t initially intended is how osiris is essentially going to be the antitheses of higgs and his character.

in their backstory, osiris got activated after higgs got trapped on the beach; but i like to imagine that if higgs were there with them, even for a short period of time, how much he might behave towards osiris the way his elders / caretakers / idols did with him, at least initially.

he might be obsessive, controlling, trying to fit a narrative into their programming because he was always shown only certain aspects of the whole plot, or only given certain narratives. told how to think and what to do and for certain causes but never shown how to think for himself.

but imagining if doing this to osiris is how he heals and realizing how abused he was simply bc he exhibited that behavior towards someone he started to see as below him. what was supposed to be an equal and companion ended up being the mirror in which he needed to see his true self because he simply started treating them the way he was treated.

and with osiris, as said, is they were activated after higgs was trapped on the beach, so they’re going to have little to no contact with him and only have fragments of journals to understand him by, and even then, it’s not much. so they end up being a sentient droid who by all intents and purposes, should have only been just autonomous and taking input by higgs on what to do and how to perform, and all these things.

a droid who is only living and operating due to the work of someone else being completely sentient and able to, in as much as they can for a droid, make their own decisions based on a barebones operating program to do what’s genuinely best for human kind, even if they have this world view that humanity is humaninities downfall.

You’re a daycare worker, watching over toddlers, when the imminent end of the world is announced. It becomes increasingly clear none of the kids’ parents are going to show up as the end inches nearer.

[Audio starts]

“Mom has been texting me for the last twenty minutes. She wants me to come home. It’s a four hour drive, when the roads are clear, and from what I hear everybody is trying to get somewhere right now. There’s no telling if I’d even-”

“Everybody else has left. All the other kids were picked up, the other staff left. They gave me all the keys. I promised to stay and wait for as long as- well. Even if some of the parents show up, I guess some of them won’t, so I’m just waiting. Until.”

[Clears throat.]

“A couple of people came after everybody left. Peter, one of Aidan’s fathers, gave me three hundred dollars for staying. What am I going to do with money? It’s- anyway. I kind of get it. He wanted to give me something.”

[Audio ends]

[Audio starts]

“They’re all between 2 and 4.” Sniff. “They’re so little. Too little to really- maybe if they were older, I’d have to tell them something. But um. I’m just- trying to stay calm and keep them happy and occupied. I think that’s the best thing, right now.”

[Heaving breaths.]

“I normally use this recorder to help me remember stuff. It’s just, uh, habit to talk to it. I don’t know. They’re napping, right now. I’ve got the baby monitor, they know that if they talk into it, I’ll come, so-”

[Sobbing.]

[Audio ends]

[Audio starts]

“Mom keeps texting, so I blocked her. I sent her a text telling her goodbye, first, but. I do. But these kids need me.”

[Sniff.]

“I tried calling their parents again, but I can’t get anybody. It’s just busy signals. I called the firefighter station, 911. I can’t get through to anybody.”

[Shaky breath.]

“I went out into the yard. Um, I think they can play. It’s nice out, and you can’t really see it yet. Little bit of a glimmer, if they ask I’ll just tell them it’s a plane, but it’s nice out and we’ve got hours before-”

[Murmuring child’s voice, indistinguishable.]

in the wake of doing some wiki research of death stranding and higgs’ involvement in stuff for my oc backstory, i find it interesting how tangled Peter/Higgs is in so many corners of the world and different sects of things and how misguided, manipulated, and a pawn he is so many of these areas. someone who was searching for connection, who ended up not knowing how to yearn or want for himself; he is a great metaphor or analogy for addiction as he kept going from person to person who would give him attention and purpose until the fix didn’t work anymore. and the fact that he didn’t seem to question it when he started working under Amelie, the same person who coffin and her group were working against. it stopped becoming about a greater good and started becoming what they could do for him. it’s absolutely crazy, and his story is actually just so sad.

this is very rough sketch of them, i don’t art at all but i wanted some kind of visual for Osiris and i finally mustered something up 🥹 i still have to tweak stuff on here, add some details to the pants and face mostly; i don’t know how tf to render anything, but 🥹

not sure i’m gonna keep the “eyes” like that at all, i still haven’t settled on that detail yet.

i think i got them for the most part where i want them design wise!! as stated before, im not much of an artist by any means so i know the technique and quality of the work is probably not up to par but its the idea that counts 😭 im excited to bring them more into fruition and can’t wait to finish up their backstory!! having to do a lot of research on the DS wiki’s to get as much canonically correct as i can 🙂‍↕️ anyways, art under the cut!

Writers have two modes and they are "i haven't written in three weeks and i am rotting from the inside and everything feels wrong and i don't know who i am anymore" and "i wrote for four hours straight and forgot to eat and it's dark outside and when did that happen and i feel like a god" and there is nothing in between. no chill. no medium setting. just famine or feast and a very confused nervous system.
