X-Men is about civil rights. If you didn’t get that, you didn’t get X-Men.
Black Panther is about civil rights. If you didn’t get that, you didn’t get Black Panther.
Captain America literally fought Nazis. He is the embodiment of fighting the alt-right. If you didn’t get that, you didn’t get Captain America.
The Empire in Star Wars is fascist. The Rebel alliance are Anti-Fascist. If you didn’t get that, you didn’t get Star Wars.
The Punisher isn’t meant to be a role model for police or armed forces. So much so that the writers of The Punisher made him actively speak out against it in a comic. If you didn’t get that, you didn’t get The Punisher.
Deadpool is queer. He’s pansexual. Fact. If you didn’t get that you didn’t get Deadpool.
Star Trek is about equality for all genders, races and sexualities. As early as the mid-60s it was taking a pro-choice stance and defending women’s right to choose. One of its clearest themes is accepting different cultures and appearances and working together for peace. (It’s also anti-capitalist and pro-vegan). If you didn’t get that, you didn’t get Star Trek.
Superman and Supergirl (and a whole host of other superheroes) are immigrants. The stance of those comics is pro-immigration and pro-equality and acceptance. If you didn’t get that, you didn’t get Superman or Supergirl.
Stan Lee said “Racism and bigotry are among the deadliest social ills plaguing the world today.” If you’re bigoted or racist, you didn’t get any of the characters Stan Lee created.
The stories we grew up with all taught us to value other people and cultures and to treasure the differences between us. Only villains were xenophobic, or sexist, or racist, or totalitarian. I can’t understand how anyone can have missed that.
If you’re upset that there’s a black Spider-Man, or a black Captain America, or a female Thor, or that Ms Marvel is Muslim, or that Captain Marvel was pro-feminism, or any of the other things right wing “fans” say is “stealing their childhood” - you never got it in the first place. The things you claim are now “pandering to the lefties” were never on your side to begin with.
If you consider yourself a fan of these things, but you still think the LGBTQ+ community is too “in your face”, or have a problem with Black Lives Matter, or want to “take the country back from immigrants”, then you’re not really a fan at all.
Geek culture isn’t suddenly left wing... it always was. You just grew up to be intolerant. You became the villain in the stories you used to love.

Wanna see what happens. Let's have a fun civilized non-bigoted conversation about TV shows, film, actors and sports. Remember, opinions are like assholes, everyone's got one and most of them stink 🤪
Some opinions are mine and some aren't but you'll never know when and you're encouraged to message me new ones.
Unpopular Opinion #1-3:
Lena and Lex took up way too much story and screen time on Supergirl.
Santana and Brittany are over-rated as a couple and shouldn't have been endgame.
April Kepner and George O'Malley are two of the worst and annoys Grey's characters.
It’s like a piece of my heart is out there and it’s just wandering around in the world, and it’s on its own and I-I can’t protect it. I can’t protect her.
"You can't just not have a bachelorette party, Alex! You're getting married!" Kara shouts, looking appalled by her sister even suggesting such a thing. The young reporter stood tall in her famed Supergirl stance which may have achieved the slightest bit of intimidation, if only she had been in her suit as opposed to a powder pink t-shirt displaying dancing cupcakes, skinny jeans and purple rainboots or talking to anyone but her no nonsense sister. Her hair was still pulled into the two haphazard pigtails Esme had finished only minutes previous and Alex was doing her best to keep a straight face at the sight.
"Exactly! I'm getting married and my sister should be celebrating with me." Is the rebuttal accompanied with an eye roll. Kelly and Esme patiently sit cuddled on the stairs in the command center of the tower watching the sisters verbally volley from either end of the table. Both content to watch them spar all the while knowing that Kara would likely get her way once she uses the pout that always works on her sister, especially with the pigtails that seemed to make her look at least 10 years younger.
"Alex, you and Kelly deserve this. I promise we'll celebrate together—just not tonight. You guys are going to go have a great night...aaaannd my niece and I are going to have our very own girl's night." The blonde states moving around the table toward her sister and pulling her into a lingering hug. Them melting into eachother content in their embrace. Glancing over Alex's shoulder, she catches her niece's eye and winks at her causing her to giggle into her mom's side. Giving one more squeeze both women pull back offering a soft smile. "Let me do this for you." Getting only a nod of agreement in return, Kara can't help but get excited about spending some quality time with Esme. Her enthusiasm causing her to hover just far enough of the floor that Alex has to push her back down. "Now, go. Get out of here. Esme, Lovey and I have plans." Gently pushing her sister toward Kelly, Kara hoists her niece into her arms barely managing to remain on the ground.
"Fine. You win, we're going." Alex grumbles as she and Kelly give their daughter a hug and kiss before leaving her for the night. "Kiddo, you're in charge. Make sure Auntie Kara doesn't eat too much junk before bed and stays out of trouble."
"Hey!" She shouted while trying and failing to look offended while both Kelly and Esme laughed. Her sister smirked and shrugged at her reaction which then turned into a laugh as the blonde petulantly stuck her tongue out in retaliation. The little family spent a few more minutes joking around before the brides-to-be left the two alone...
I always think I have an idea of what my voice sounds like until I hear a recording of it and I’m always like. huh. well I don’t know what the fuck That was but there’s no way that came out of my body
Batwoman is the best Arrowverse show right now. Heck, it's the best show on CW right now. If you think otherwise, you're wrong and it's okay to be wrong
I've basically stopped watching Batwoman for months now but I did see that Sophie/Montoya kiss and I was instantly on-board then just as quickly jumped ship cuz I know it's stupid to even entertain it cuz the writers aren't gonna commit to it so don't know why they did it. For, one and a half seasons that show has done nothing but played with my emotions when it comes to Sophie and I won't be dooped again! Dammit! 😜
They said Kate, I was with it but she was a married closeted mess then they said Julia, I was like hell yea love and then it goes to shit even with Kate no longer being an option. So, I'm done getting attached. If they're putting her with Ryan which we all know they are, they should just do it already and stop dropping ppl in to distract Sophie from being the love interest to Batwoman that she was gonna be from day one.
There are several Calzona, Otalia and Regina "sexy lip scar" Mills fic ideas in my notebook and on my phone that will hopefully come to life on the page at some point in the foreseeable future however with every day that I can't find Supergirl stories specifically about the Danvers sisters, Dansen, Astra, James, or Andrea, I get the urge to just do it myself. Anyone else feeling like this??? Like on AOL, why are there only like 6 Dansen specific fics out of 46 total fics with Esme tagged?! HOW SWAY?!?!!
Prompts, snippets and one-shots are cool and add to the overall joy of reading but where are the stories? The show's writing may have gone completely off the rails but they always gave great nuggets of content that I would be so sure would result in dozens of fics and why wouldn't I, it happened all the time. Like the moment Andrea popped on the screen, she and Lena were serving big ex-girlfriend energy and with the way the masses obsess over a lady loving Lena/Kara, I just knew the fics would follow. But that didn't happen eventhough all the pieces were there just as all the SC pieces were there however it became clear that she didn't make the cut. It seemed it had already been determined that Kara reigned supreme and the only acceptable alternatives for Lena were either Alex or Sam. The same can be said for Kelly despite her having a bigger support group, it would seem when it comes to Alex that Maggie is supreme while Sam or Lena are acceptable. Now, none of that is to say that folks should write about things or characters they don't like but IT IS to ask why the folks that do like them aren't writing??
But let's not get hung up on ships. It's more than that cuz people aren't writing about Eve killing Jeremiah and Alex finding out about it OR the Midvale trip for Jeremiah's funeral and Alex's lash out OR Astra being alive post-crisis OR Kara truly reconnecting with her parents, people or culture and how that would affect her OR the Olsen siblings as Guardian OR the survival of Kenny Li...and I could go on all day but I won't lol.
Yet sometimes, I get irrationally frustrated at the idea that there are literally hundreds or thousands of Supergirl fanfic writers and I feel like the only way I can find what I'm yearning for is to write it myself. And I find myself going, "why do I have to write it? I don't want to write it, I want to read it and be surprised because I don't know what's gonna happen or how it's gonna get there. I want to enjoy other people's imaginations and adaptations!" Yet, despite feeling this way, I do in fact have Supergirl fic ideas in my notebook and on my phone. I'll get to them and hopefully others will get to theirs as well, so fewer people, if any at all, can relate to this ramble.
What are your thoughts?

kara danvers appreciation week (favorite romantic relationship (part 2/2)
In this life, prayer normally doesn’t work. Nobody shows up. But Clark did. And you do. Kara, you’re something that we can see, something that we can touch. How are you not a miracle?
Can you imagine if, instead of manufactured conflict between Kara and Alex over parenting an alien child, there'd been enough real estate to bring Eliza Danvers back for at least two episodes leading up to the finale? Eliza who raised an alien child and insisted on her using power dampeners, and who also tasked her human child with helping her alien child hide her identity, popping up like "wow, I'm thrilled to be a grandmother but have you considered power dampeners??? Because they were a godsend when Kara arrived."
And Alex, who canonically focused so hard on Kara's safety and obscuring Kara's powers that she routinely put her own life on hold and denied herself a ton of happiness, could instinctively bristle at Eliza's suggestion. Because maybe Alex didn't feel everything Kara felt when she lost her whole world and wound up with the Danvers fam and a slew of powers, but Alex can remember how hard it was for her specifically. She can remember that Eliza sacrificed a lot to conceal Kara's powers and she can remember feeling like she herself had been sacrificed too.
So, without really thinking too hard about it, Alex bristles. And Kara jumps in with the valid, even if unsolicited, anecdote about how turning the dial down on her powers helped her to find her footing in a million other ways without hurting people or suffering their intensity, hoping it'll de-escalate the looming argument. Then Alex's stubborn refusal to listen to her sister can be less about not respecting/acknowledging Kara's experience and more about Alex's beef with Eliza, and also about Alex trying, however unconsciously, to protect herself from becoming collateral damage under the weight of a burden she didn't ask for.
Then Alex could lash out a bit at her own mother for giving her parenting advice that she isn't ready to really engage, and maybe she could throw in a dig at how rich it is of Eliza to consider herself an authority on these things before she storms off in a huff.
Except, here's the thing, over the course of the episode, while she smiles at everyone but Eliza, and brushes off Kelly's concern, and bakes with her kid, and refuses to give Kara a moment to talk more sense into her, Alex realizes, remembers really, that Esme isn't a burden. Not the girl and not her powers. And Alex did choose her. She's choosing her every damn day, and it's her job now, hers and Kelly's, to give this kid a shot at being as wonderful and well-adjusted as Kara turned out to be, and to make her feel loved and seen along the way.
I would love to see a Danvers sisters scene where Kara tries to apologize but Alex beats her to the punch. Where Alex cops to just being stubborn and resentful and maybe tells Kara that being her big sister is what gave her the confidence to become a mom to an alien kid. That, for as hard as it felt sometimes, she's so proud and grateful to have been there when Kara needed her. And Alex can admit that she doesn't understand how Kara felt, how Esme might feel, but (because she canonically has been practicing this with Kelly as Kelly navigates racial trauma that Alex can't fully grasp) she can learn from them and she can support them.
Alex could look at her life, at this beautiful family she's making for herself, and she could realize that it's okay to still feel some type of way about the harsh expectations Eliza leveled her with w/r/t hiding Kara's powers and protecting her. She can feel some type of way about it and she can also, as a fully grown up engaged woman with a child of her own now, kind of understand that her mother suddenly had two kids to raise and no handbook for how to deal with one of them lifting cars. She can acknowledge what she sees as Eliza's mistakes and admit that she knows there was no malice in them.
She can also realize that she isn't a kid anymore, she's an adult and she knows who she is, and there's nothing about being Esme's mom that can hurt her the way that being Kara's number one protector sometimes did. And if there is, Alex could believe that it would be worth it. That she's strong enough to get herself through anything, if it means taking care of her kid.
And supporting Esme means listening to Kara's lived experience, and learning from Kara's experience means literally just looping Esme in on the decision-making about her powers so that Esme keeps some of the autonomy that Kara wasn't always sure she had. You cannot convince me that Lena couldn't recreate Kara's glasses or something like them for Esme in an afternoon, so that she could use them when she felt overwhelmed, and ditch them when she didn't.
And all of the Danvers women could be happy and together and threading a needle between the beginning of Alex's story and the end inside of an episode or two, within like sixteen minutes of screentime.
Before the bachelorette (during which Eliza would be babysitting, I'm sorry William), Alex would initiate the conversation with Eliza. Maybe she would bring up their season 1 fight, how she thought that in all the (offscreen) talking they'd done since then, that she'd be over that old resentment. Eliza could admit that, with the knowledge of hindsight, she doesn't know how else she could've handled it. It was an unfair burden, expecting Alex to be so strong and reliable, but Eliza knows that Kara wouldn't have turned out half as well with just her.
She could apologize to Alex but also fiercely and unequivocally promise that if there's anyone capable of navigating this hard parenting landscape without also emotionally damaging their kid in the process, it's Alex, and that she'll be happy to sit back and watch Alex and Kelly excel at it with like 30% less unsolicited advice. And Alex could promise to ask for advice when she needs it and mean it.
