On this day, 23 July 1967, one of the biggest rebellions in US history occurred in Detroit, following a police raid on a bar in a poor, majority Black area in the early hours of the morning. Black and white residents fought police in the streets and looted goods while snipers took potshots at officers from windows. Police, National Guard and US troops retaliated with outright brutality and intense violence. By the time it was over, more than 40 people were dead, 7,000 arrested and over 2,000 buildings destroyed. General Baker, a Black auto worker at the Dodge Main assembly plant in Hamtramck said that he and his colleagues "learnt from the Detroit Rebellion… When the Detroit Rebellion took place, and the National Guard and 101st Airborne was sent in, and they imposed curfew, if you got sick, you couldn’t go to the doctor. If you got hungry, you couldn’t get no food. But if you had a badge from Chrysler, Ford or General Motors, you could get to the police line, the National Guard line, the army line, all of them to take your butt to work. The conclusion we draw from that was that the only place in this society that Black people had any value was at a point of production. That’s why after the rebellion, we turned all our efforts into organising inside the plants." The following year, Baker and others formed the Dodge Revolutionary Union Movement (DRUM), part of the League of Revolutionary Black Workers. See, cool as Madara was, there were 2 things that kind of don't make sense to give your "final" antagonist
Firstly, he's kind of inconsistent. He wants peace so he's going to trap everyone in an eternal dream state of utter bliss to eliminate war. Ok, that tracks. But BEFORE that he's going to kill...pretty much as many people as he can. And not just right before the battle, he's going to ensure his apprentice creates the bloodiest regime in shinobi history and actively incite as many conflicts as he can. Like I get that they'll be "alive" in the IT, but it's a bit of a hollow victory
The second thing is, Madara was kinda right? About everything. Rallying with the Senju DID lead to the Uchiha's downfall. The distribution of the tailed beasts led to A LOT of death and suffering. And the shinobi world would only be at peace as long as they had a common enemy
Hashirama meanwhile was wrong about literally everything and his dreams got spat on the MOMENT he died. His best friend believed he couldn'ttrust him, and he was right to. His brother created some of the most fucked up was crimes imaginable. The clan he worked so hard to ally with was betrayed by his brother's most trusted students. His plan to build peace by establishing MAD went south immediately because literally no one cared about releasing demons into poulated villages. The village that he specifically founded on the basis that children shouldn't become murderers, not only makes children murderers at the age of twelve, not only lowers that age if they have enough potential, not only has a disposable army made out of indoctrinated orphans, but they have a YEARLY. CHILD. EXCLUSIVE. DEATH. TOURNAMENT. And not even for money or family or shit it's literally so the kage can wave their dicks around
Imagine Hashirama a decade after his reign started, and he saw all the atrocities committed because of his actions. All the wars, the execution of innocents, sheer devastation he unintentionallycaused. And He. Is. Miserable. Not even mad, just disappointed, literally all he wanted was to spread love and peace, and they can't even accept that. So hes leave. No final battle, no peaceful death in bed, just a retreat into the natural world you love so much.But then one day, a descendant of his best friend falls into his home, and he's kind, and hopeful, and he wants the hat so he can make your village better. So you fix him up, and train him, and send him back to his friends. And he almost immediately comes back telling you the saddest story you've ever heard. How a little girl was turned into a bomb(yet another of your fuck ups), how the rival he'd just started to befriend(Who started ninja-ing at 5!) was used as her suicide tool, how their sensei was nowhere to be found
And you just can't take it anymore. He WOULD find a way to make peace. No matter HOW many eggs he cracks. Even if he has to destroy the village that was HIS dream. Even if he has to face the embodiments of all his greatest mistakes. The very last of his best friend's clan, and not only a jinchuriki, but the last of his wife's clan. It doesn't matter. They'll thank him soon enough

Especially because there's a well proven solution to graffiti. Graffiti artists are, you know, artists. Like actual for real artists. If a local artist paints a wall with something beautiful, they aren't gong to paint over it and wreck it. So if you pay local artists to paint murals on things, they don't get tagged.
And you know that saying, "you get to tell people how to solve their problems to the degree you're willing to help"? It's like that. If you want to have a say in the way humans add their artistic mark to their environments - and they will - you need to fund people adding and maintaining beautiful art that other artists respect. Simple as that.

I feel like starfish are one of those animals that are treated as very “normal” by people but absolutely shouldn’t be. Like they’re a wheel of repeating heads connected by a central stomach. They walk around using thousands of tiny sticky hydraulically powered tentacles. They have an eye on the end of each arm. Instead of having a mouth they just have an opening where their entire stomach can be pushed out to engulf prey. And they’re just allowed to exist like this. It’s not illegal or anything.

Dogs can also cast Magic Missile but every time they do the projectile is shaped like a bone or a stick and they chase after it
Fantasy setting where every species of animal has One Fucked Up Trick exactly like in medieval bestiaries (e.g., panthers hypnotising their prey with sweet breath, pelicans reviving the dead with their willingly shed blood, etc.), except these are actually learned magic spells passed down from parent to offspring, so different populations of the same animal in different regions might have a different spell.
(If a species is domesticated you can teach it any spell you want, as long as you start 'em young enough; every breed of dog has a different "standard" spell, and knowing the "wrong" one is considered both a grave departure from breed standards and a potential violation of animal husbandry ethics.)
