R.I.P. The 2976 American people that lost their lives on 9/11 and R.I.P. the 48,644 Afghan and 1,690,903 Iraqi and 35000 Pakistani people that paid the ultimate price for a crime they did not commit
A 10-year update to this post:
R.I.P. to the more than 4,500,000 people of Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Yemen, and Syria, who have lost their lives as a result of American occupation.
Everybody say a silent prayer for me as I smash the head of baby Jesus clean off this statue in the name of art.
I just cannot for the life of me figure out how to snap this kid's neck without breaking his mom, but giving him a new, cooler head is vital to my vision and it simply gotta go.
So the thing about that is, I gave up and crushed it with a wrench and the shards flew all over the place.
Just like in the Bible.
Massive hater alert from the graven images fandom.
Anyway,
Oh, Deer Lord.
You're right it was Necessary
The rescue dogs of the September 11 played an extraordinary but often overlooked role in the wake of the terrorist attacks. These dogs were deployed to Ground Zero to assist in locating survivors trapped beneath the rubble, with many of them working for days on end. It was estimated that about 300 search and rescue dogs were tasked with the mission of finding not only survivors, but human remains as well.
One dog, a labrador named "Sirius," was the only police dog to die in the attacks. Assigned to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Sirius was in the basement of the World Trade Center when the towers collapsed. His handler had left him in his kennel, thinking he would be safe, as he helped escort people from the building.
These dogs provided more than just physical assistance—they offered emotional support to the rescue workers and survivors. The presence of these loyal, hardworking animals helped to lift the spirits of firefighters, police officers, and other emergency personnel who were dealing with overwhelming grief and exhaustion.
In some cases, SAR dogs, who were trained to locate living people, became depressed when they found only bodies, prompting handlers to stage "live finds" to boost their morale.
In the years since 9/11, the bravery and contributions of these dogs have finally been recognized and honored. Many of the surviving dogs lived out the remainder of their lives in comfort and with gratitude from the nation.
How does it feel to ask for a drink and instead you get a whole artistic experience.
Not so friendly reminder that musk specifically came up with, and pushed, for hyperloop knowing that it would never be made, as an effort to stop the development of highspeed rail in America and shift all political discussions of it because "something better is around the corner":
As I’ve written in my book, Musk admitted to his biographer Ashlee Vance that Hyperloop was all about trying to get legislators to cancel plans for high-speed rail in California—even though he had no plans to build it. Several years ago, Musk said that public transit was “a pain in the ass” where you were surrounded by strangers, including possible serial killers, to justify his opposition.

Also: 2024 update, the total length of China's high-speed rail tracks has now reached well over 45,000 km, or 28,000 miles, by the end of 2023.
They are additionally five years ahead of schedule and expect to double the total number within ten years. And, before someone inevitably complains about "how expensive it is", they are turning over a net-profit of over $600M USD a year.
“i used to live there” is such a sad phrase. seeing places u used to live in is an odd thing. It’s like ‘i know where the best hiding place is in there. my bedroom was the one directly to the left as you walk in. i took my first steps on that flooring. i used to play in that yard with my grandma. she died two years ago. that was the only place i ever knew. those walls contain all of my childhood memories. i can no longer go there, but i know every corner like the back of my hand.’

local woman who claimed she will "cross that bridge when she comes to it" arrives at said bridge
reports are coming in that she is now burning said bridge
Walking around my neighborhood wearing my sick as fuck custom T-shirt that says "I STEAL EVERY FRIENDLY CAT I MEET WITH NO REMORSE I DO IT ALL THE TIME DON'T CALL IT A COMEBACK I BEEN HERE FOR YEARS KEEP THAT BEAST ENCLOSED LEST YE FACE MY LIGHTNING CAT GRASP" and smiling politely while my neighbors' indoor-outdoor cats gently trot down the sidewalk towards me as the neighbors themselves read my shirt with a growing sense of panic.
Unfollow me for cat theft all you want. You'll never catch me and you'll never stop me. Those things are this season's must-have lipgloss in an understaffed Sephora, and baby? I'm a middle-class teenage girl who's not getting enough attention at home...
People in the notes keep saying, "This is just another reason you should keep your cats inside," and I know they just mean the fact that someone in general could steal them, but I like to think they all mean that you gotta watch out for me specifically. Because you do. I'm everywhere. And I'm fast.
was playing "fetch" with the ocean today by tossing stones into it and watching them wash back up with the tide a few meters away, and it got me thinking about grief and the things we carry with us even after we lose them
one thing tumblr has unironically done to improve my mental health is completely rewrite how i view disgust as a concept. there is no higher compliment to me than being told i have something wrong with me and should be ashamed of myself when i'm just living my life in a way that is perhaps odd and hard to understand, but ultimately as harmless as you can get in our society. which probably wasn't the intention of all the advice i got in therapy to reframe my negative thought patterns as more positive ones, but it's doing great things for me.
people around me: ugh what a freak. loser. weirdo. if i were you i'd be so embarrassed. how do you convince yourself your life is worth anything when you choose to live it like this.
me, who found some of the kindest and most passionately purposeful communities of people among the freaks, losers, weirdos, and other unwanted rejects:
this sucks so bad i need to [remembers suicide jokes only worsen my mental health] put on the best talent show this towns ever seen
Watching Przewalski's horses run free on the Kazakhstan steppe for the first time in 200 years
It's my time to shine as a horse girl!!
These horses went extinct in the wild 60 years ago! They were reintroduced in other parts of Mongolia and Central Asia earlier than they were reintroduced on the Steppes, but having them back here has been generational conservation work. It's truly amazing.
These horses and other kinds of horses are probably different branches of evolution, which is CRAZY AWESOME. Modern horse breeds trace back to one branch, and these dudes evolved separately. They have 33 chromosome pairs whereas the horse you're used to seeing in movies and TV shows (or riding if you too are a horse girl - gender neutral title of expertise) have 32.
Despite this, you can interbreed these two species and they will have fertile offspring. That's really rare! (A common equine cross between species, the mule, is an always-sterile offspring of a donkey and a horse, for instance).
I did have to look the exact numbers up here, full disclosure, but it's believed that Przewalski's horses and other breeds have a common ancestor about between 160,000 and 38,000 years ago
The horses you see on cave art? These guys!
It's likely that Attila the Hun and his armies rode these horses (though hard to prove decisively)
Part of the conservation efforts around them involved CLONING to avoid a genetic bottleneck. ISN'T THAT DOPE. You can read more about that here
These are the only truly wild horses. All other "wild" horses -- Australian brumbies and American mustangs, for instance -- are feral descendants of domesticated horses, which is partly why you can see such a wide range of heights, colors, conformations, etc in those populations.
Anyway. This is incredible news and this species of animal is very special, very ancient, and very cool.
