so asking for money on the internet is. weird to say the least but: we are a traumagenic DID system seeking trauma therapy while attending university, and are about to go into severe debt. we can no longer afford to go to college, because we lost our scholarship due to lack of counseling and ability to function with our symptoms. we hope to find a therapist who can help us grow, manage these symptoms, and receive an official diagnosis to register with the SAR at our college. we cannot afford therapy, because we age out of/lose our insurance in less than a month, and cannot ask family for financial support in this matter because they are steadfast in not believing our symptoms, or even making them worse. if you enjoy our content, or just would like the help us out, please consider leaving us a tip. -the calico system
hey guys, we still really need help, we have a job to help cover therapy but they are threatening to severely cut our hours because of our physical disabilities. please consider donating or purchasing paid readings from @magickgf
why must life have a grand purpose? is it not enough to have some basil, and mozzarella?
āAdults guess and assume that Iām not going to understand things just because Iām a little kid. Ā And it can be frustrating. Ā Cause, like, I really want to know stuff. Ā Or even when they do talk to me about things, theyāll always try to ātone it down to my level.ā Ā They especially avoid the heavy themes like sex and death and cannibalism and stuff. Ā But thatās stuff I want to talk about. Ā Iām really fascinated by the Donner Party. Ā The entire expedition, really. Ā What did it feel like to eat people that you knew? Ā Iām also fascinated by how the human mind deals with death. Ā Itās like people shut down the idea of death completely, and insist that heaven and hell are places after death. Ā But death is death. Ā And everyone after death is dead, because consciousness is just your brain. Ā And even if there is evidence of life after death, itās difficult to assess. Ā Weāre going to be incredibly biased toward any information that suggests thereās something more. Ā Because we are so desperate to believe it.ā
Uh, why are her parents not supervising their childās content consumption on the fucking Internet?
An elementary school girl finding out about āsex and death and canniablism and stuffā is one thing; a little girl expressing to a complete stranger she is fascinsted by these things and wants to know about them seemingly above anything else āadultā related? Ummmmmm. This aināt it, chief.
It is possible, plausible, and realistic for a child to gain an interest in these topics with or without the aid of the internet. I understand you want to protect children but the gut reaction to a child showing a clearly advanced and nuanced interest shouldnāt be to clamp your hands around their ears and cry out there too young to know these things - itās never a good idea to punish or frighten a child for being curious, and thatās what your reaction does.
Also you can read about these things in books, like the Donner party isnāt some obscure hushed event only the grown ups know about, cannibal isnāt a word you learn in middle school
I read Moby Dick in the fourth grade (mostly because people told me I couldnāt) and spent way too much time trying to figure out why a dude would share a bed with someone he knew was a cannibal. And I was a sheltered kid!
A singular anecdote is just a data point, butā¦.Ā
I donāt know if these are as much of a thing in America, but thereās a book series called āHorrible Historiesāā which maybe doesnāt contain any sex, has an awful lot of violence and cannibalism. And I wouldnāt be surprised if one book or another covered the Donner Party. That book series is a) aimed at primary school kids, and b) *beloved* of primary school kids. Because of the violence, torture, death and shit.
Dude when I was idk 10 or 11 I read obsessively about the Holocaust and my favorite artist was Frida Kahlo and I was having a secret existential crisis about the fact that my baby-scientist brain didnāt know how to believe in God and so I was A Bad Person probably?
ā¦and the internet wasnāt even a thing! (I mean, the www may have technically existed in 1993? But I sure didnāt know about it)
āoh no this child Knows Disturbing Things, thatās terribleā is the kind of attitude Iād expect from my Christian-homeschooled cousins, for fucks sake
When I was a little kid I read the World Book Encyclopedia. Like, on rainy days, Iād pull out a volume and page through it to see what looked interesting. It ABSOLUTELY had entries for sex and death and cannibalism and the Donner Party. (I was 7 during my own WWII fixation).
Adults saying,Ā āYouāre too young to know about that, stop asking,ā did no good whatsoever for my mental health. They didnāt stop me from wanting to learn, they couldnātĀ prevent me from using my school libraryās reference materials, and they didnāt take away my concerns or anxieties about topics I didnāt know how to handle.
What helped me was adults who helped me talk through what I was learning about. Who helped me connect the weird, incredible-sounding things I read about to real life. Who let me perform science experiments and build backyard treehouses and try new foods because Iād read about them. Who hugged me when I came downstairs late at night crying because a character in a book had died. Who didnāt shame me for my interests or tell me I was wrong or weird for wanting to soak information up like a sponge.
Omega here with an unpopular opinion according to MDās sister: SYSTEMS ARE NOT INHERENTLY DANGEROUS. ALTERS ARE NOT INHERENTLY DANGEROUS. MENTAL DISORDERS IN GENERAL ARE NOT INHERENTLY DANGEROUS.
Thanks for listening.

big fat reminder
you do not owe your diagnoses to anyone but your doctors!!! thereās a reason HIPAA laws exist; you have every right to consider your medical history to be private, sensitive information.
you do not owe it to your employer! you do not owe it to your family! and you sure as hell do not owe it to a stranger on the internet!
people who hate 80s music don't interact
Iām a simple girl. I awake from restless ancient slumber haunted by the shadows of my forgotten names and Iām hungry
when i was depressed thoseĀ āreasons not to kill yourselfā lists never helped.. maybe they do for some people but for me they actually made me feel worse. it was likeā¦.hereās a reminder that there are all these things other people find joy in that you canāt. with a sprinkle of guilt becauseĀ āyour family/friends will miss you.ā
what i needed to hear, and so what iāll tell any of you reading this who are in the same situation, was: a lot of people recover from mental illness and go on to live full lives. itās quite likely that with treatment, a time will come when you wonāt want to die anymore and youāll find joy in everyday life. yes, you. stay alive for that possibility.
that supergirl lesbian kiss where the girls look like they are going to quit after that take is the polar opposite of the scene in brokeback where alma sees jack and ennis making out and heath ledger almost broke jake gyllenhaals nose
the binary
