happy valentine's day to lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgenders, and queer+ folk. you're all beautiful and truly deserve the most amount of love on this day and every day.
here are some things just for you: 💝🌹💞⚘💖🍫💘
You are: Valid
You are: Important
You are: Loved
You are: Enough.
And if nobody has told you today: I’m proud of you for making it through to this very second.
me, thinking about abuse event and not feeling much about it: hm does this mean I’m okay with it? or am I just dissociated from it?
me, having a nervous breakdown abt it later: it was the dissociation
none of this feels real
the clouds were so pretty this evening

Technically all of the above, but we focus more on dissociation, PTSD, and discussing trauma more than anything.

Healthy integration is about the gradual reduction of dissociative barriers. It comes with improved communication, less memory loss, less inner conflict, improved self-regulation, and increased ability to hold a cohesive life narrative. It’s good shit.
“Forced integration”, on the other hand, is a term my therapist used to explain a far less pleasant experience. Think of it like your dissociative barriers being smashed with a wrecking ball. Two parts get exposed to some amount of each others memories, beliefs and emotions with no dissociative filter. It’s shocking and can leave both parts feeling utterly fucked up. It’s very short-lived and afterwards you’re left with increased depersonalization, memory loss, drastic personality changes, and new dissociative barriers. It can be overwhelming enough cause new parts to form or to trigger dormancy in any of the parts involved. It’s not a pleasant thing to think or write about. It wasn’t a pleasant thing to live through.
I’m starting to wonder how many of the integration horror stories in online DID communities are coming from people experiencing the latter, but labeling it the former.
