Grieving your mother never stops, but I can imagine that Kurapika’s grief for his mother is newly and especially excruciating while carrying his own child. Every day there are things he wishes he could talk about with her: his fears, his joy, his hopes, every weird and new bodily experience. Things your friends and partner wouldn’t understand in the same way that your mom would. He wants to ask her if she felt the same way he’s feeling right now, if she likes the name he picked for his baby girl. What was it like for her and baby him, was she ever this scared?

And it’s as if he knows her more intimately now, as an adult walking in her footsteps, and it only makes her absence hurt that much more. To know there was a once a time where everything he feels about his daughter, this universe-sized, incomprehensible love, his mother had felt about him, all that time ago.

He never stops wanting his mom, but he longs for her more than ever when he becomes a parent, without her.
