How do we start a campaign for Boots Riley to direct at least one episode of the new Animorphs series. Surely starting on the most popular social media platform, Tumblr.com, is the way to go.
I know everyone wants Dev Patel to play Heathcliff, but I'm actually more curious to see him direct an adaptation of Wuthering Heights. I'm not familiar with all the many adaptions of Wuthering Heights, so this may already exist (If so, please do share), but I'd really just like to see an adaptation of Wuthering Heights directed by a MOC. I'm not a man, but as a black person I understood Heathcliff's anger, and really felt the tragedy of letting that anger consume him because it is something I've seen before. The mental wearing down of being the only brown person in a sea of white faces and no chance of not being an other.
Whistleblower on Reddit rage-blogs about how the food delivery company he worked for as a developer is ripping customers AND drivers off.
Main post screenshotted here in case it gets yanked; the whole thread is worth a read.
Posted January 2026.
[Image Description: Screenshots from a reddit post in r/confession by Trowaway_whistleblow. The title is I’m a developer for a major food delivery app. The 'Priority Fee' and 'Driver Benefit Fee' go 100% to the company. The driver sees $0 of it.
The post in its entirety reads as follows:
I’m posting this from a library Wi-Fi on a burner laptop because I am technically under a massive NDA. I don’t care anymore. I put in my two weeks yesterday and honestly, I hope they sue me. I’ve been sitting on this for about eight months, just watching the code getting pushed to production, and I can’t sleep at night knowing I helped build this machine.
You guys always suspect the algorithms are rigged against you, but the reality is actually so much more depressing than the conspiracy theories. I’m a backend engineer. I sit in the weekly sprint planning meetings where Product Managers (PMs) discuss how to squeeze another 0.4% margin out of "human assets" (that’s literally what they call drivers in the database schemas). They talk about these people like they are resource nodes in a video game, not fathers and mothers trying to pay rent.
First off, the "Priority Delivery" is a total scam. It was pitched to us as a "psychological value add." Like I said in the title, when you pay that extra $2.99, it changes a boolean flag in the order JSON, but the dispatch logic literally ignores it. It does nothing to speed you up.
We actually ran an A/B test last year where we didn't speed up the priority orders, we just purposefully delayed non-priority orders by 5 to 10 minutes to make the Priority ones "feel" faster by comparison. Management loved the results. We generated millions in pure profit just by making the standard service worse, not by making the premium service better.
But the thing that actually makes me sick—and the main reason I’m quitting—is the "Desperation Score." We have a hidden metric for drivers that tracks how desperate they are for cash based on their acceptance behavior.
If a driver usually logs on at 10 PM and accepts every garbage $3 order instantly without hesitation, the algo tags them as "High Desperation." Once they are tagged, the system then deliberately stops showing them high-paying orders. The logic is: "Why pay this guy $15 for a run when we know he’s desperate enough to do it for $6?" We save the good tips for the "casual" drivers to hook them in and gamify their experience, while the full-timers get grinded into dust.
Then there is the "Benefit Fee." You’ve probably seen that $1.50 "Regulatory Response Fee" or "Driver Benefits Fee" that appeared on your bill after the recent labor laws passed. The wording is designed to make you feel like you're helping the worker.
In reality, that money goes straight to a corporate slush fund used to lobby against driver unions. We have a specific internal cost center for "Policy Defense," and that fee feeds directly into it. You are literally paying for the high-end lawyers that are fighting to keep your delivery guy homeless.
And regarding tips, we're essentially doing Tip Theft 2.0. We don't "steal" them legally anymore because we got sued for that. Instead, we use predictive modeling to dynamically lower the base pay.
If the algo predicts you are a "high tipper" and you’ll likely drop $10, it offers the driver a measly $2 base pay. If you tip $0, it offers them $8 base pay just to get the food moved. The result is that your generosity isn't rewarding the driver; it’s subsidizing us. You’re paying their wage so we don't have to.
I'm drunk and I'm angry. Ask me anything before this gets taken down.

louis de pointe du lac — denial is a river
Guys, it got so much freaking worse. KOSA is bad, but SCREEN is even worse, somehow.
Text for S.737 - 119th Congress (2025-2026): SCREEN Act
"Sen. Mike Lee has introduced the SCREEN ACT, a bill that applies the "harmful to minors" standard used to ban LGBTQ+ books and resources in schools and libraries and apply it nationally to the internet.
Any site that has any amount of material "harmful to minors" would be forced to employ surveillance tech (biometric scans, ID uploads, background checks) to prevent minors from accessing "pornography."
You will not be surprised to learn that this is backed by the Heritage Foundation.
Unlike some of the state age-verification laws, many of which are being challenged in court, SC will be enforced by the FTC, which has the ability to levy fines, raid business and freeze bank accounts. Yes, meaning that even non-for-profits like Ao3 will suffer.
This is something for all US users to keep on their radar. Call your reps, call your senators, and spread the word to protect our archive!"
- When talking with Republicans play up the fact that this would force Elon to implement age verification systems on X (yes do call it X during the call). Elon's been threatening to primary Republicans who stand in his way so there's fear of him. Also play up concerns about "Liberals" doxxing people or Chinese hackers.
- When talking with Democrats, play up the connections to Project 2025 and suggest voters will not be happy to see Democrats siding with it.

Spoilers for Materialist, but I need to throw this into the void of the internet. I don't have strong feelings about either John or Harry personally, but I don't agree with how most people interpret Harry's character. I believe he liked Lucy's character for similar shallow reasons as Lucy. His willingness to change and be perfect wasn't for Lucy. When Lucy told him she liked him because he made her feel valuable, I think the same thing was true for Pedro Pascal's character.
Him choosing to date a matchmaker whose whole job was to evaluate people's worth and calling him a unicorn probably scratched the itch of validation he needed. I also think it wasn't random that the woman the matchmaking service set him up with was, I think like, an Art critic or curator or something, but basically it was another person whose job it is to assess the value of something.
He broke his legs to be taller, that usually signifies someone who isn't secure in themselves. He does everything perfect and right because I do think he genuinely wants to be loved, but it seems like he doesn't really know what that means or entails. His romancing is superficial, I know everyone says 'oh, if only they had a chance to talk and know each other' but Harry never made the effort to sincerely connect.
I think it's telling that in those dinner scenes he didn't seem offended at being reduced to his money or even attempt to add depth to himself with something as simple as like " I'm a fan of baseball" or "you know I have a deep interest in architecture" or whatever. He offers nothing of substance about himself, and he doesn't inquire about her. I think he THINKS he does, but again, I don't think he actually knows what that actually means.
I don't think it was wrong that he didn't realize Lucy was upset, the relationship is new, but it also implies that he probably doesn't really have engaging conversations with her. If they actually talked, he probably would have been able to notice something was off. But I don't think they talk, half the scenes they aren't actually talking and like I don't think it's just because of Lucy.
That's also the tragedy of his character, he is someone who wants to love and be loved but doesn't know how. He probably has minimized himself to these superficial box checking and that is why he is unable to find genuine connection, and Lucy was likely not the girl to help him figure that out.
I do think Materialists is asking where do the lovers and dreamers fit in this modern world, and I think it is also asked by having John pursuing and still pursue acting by the end of the film.
