when i was depressed those “reasons not to kill yourself” lists never helped.. maybe they do for some people but for me they actually made me feel worse. it was like….here’s a reminder that there are all these things other people find joy in that you can’t. with a sprinkle of guilt because “your family/friends will miss you.”
what i needed to hear, and so what i’ll tell any of you reading this who are in the same situation, was: a lot of people recover from mental illness and go on to live full lives. it’s quite likely that with treatment, a time will come when you won’t want to die anymore and you’ll find joy in everyday life. yes, you. stay alive for that possibility.
We don’t lose friends we just learn who the real ones are.

7 Tips for Dealing with Over-Thinking
1. Write it down, and try to summarise your thoughts and feelings in a short paragraph.
2. Set aside a specific time, and a specific amount of time, to think about the issue.
3. When you find yourself overthinking again, interrupt your thinking by distracting yourself.
4. Remind yourself that many problems solve themselves, and disappear, with time.
5. Change your environment.
6. Engage your brain in a demanding task.
7. Exercise or do something physical.
“lotus-eater”
—
(ˈloʊ təsˌi tər, noun) A word with Greek mythology origins, a lotus-eater is characterized as one who lives their life in a constant state of dream and fantasy, they are completely indifferent to the busy world and its problems.
etymology: In classic mythology, lotus-eater are a member of people, whom Odysseus discovered in an eternal condition of forgetfulness. They were completely enraptured by their indulgence of the fruit of the legendary lotus.

Things I didn’t like so much:
- I wish we had gotten some more time with Gwen. Everything we did get with her was amazing, but I feel like there was a lot of untapped potential with her character, specifically with how she feels seeing an alternate Peter that’s, ya know, alive.
-Also, does this Peter not know Gwen? Because that’s an area for exploration too. I get that they only have so much time to tell a streamlined story, and ultimately, it’s Miles’ story, but again, a missed opportunity I feel.
- This is just comic nerd me, but I’m sad that Silk didn’t get to be in this movie. Maybe in the sequel.
- I know that Noir, Ham, and Peni are meant to be more background characters, and again, of course, they only have so much runtime, but I liked what we saw and wish we got more. Especially Peni.
Things I loved:
- Literally everything else.
- Miles. Miles is perfect. Miles humming to the parts of the song he doesn’t know. Miles speaking Spanish. Miles being awkward and sweet and funny as hell. I really like Miles.
- Everything with Aunt May was hilarious and great.
- The Peter and Miles mentor/mentee relationship was really well done. It really is the heart of the movie.
- The reveal with Prowler was really well done. In fact, everything with the Prowler was really well done.
- The visuals. Lord. Eye candy for days.
- The soundtrack was really good.
- The “Leap of Faith” scene is the greatest moment in animated cinema all year.
- I mentioned the visuals, right?
- This is a genuinely funny movie. It really knows how to make those meme references. The Spiderman 3 dancing joke? Amazing.
- That end credit scene.
- Doc Ock? DOC OCK. -fans self- Like, damn.
- Trippy visuals. So much fun.
- “You don’t get to like my haircut.”
- I honestly laughed so much in this movie. It’s so fun.
- Ok, let’s talk about the visuals though. Those speech bubbles? The sound effects? The shots of the comic book covers? The colors? The different art styles? So good. All of it is so good.
Summary:
While not the absolute perfect movie, Spiderverse may be the closest to perfection one can get in 2 hours, and I look forward to the sequel and spin-off.
Go see it.
