Actually, no, I don't think that friendships dropping like flies in your late 20s and early 30s because no one has time for that between overwork and family obligations and marriage and kids and partners and the ritual of the time slayer is normal and ok. No I don't think deep conversations and spontaneous adventures being replaced with a tired coffee every six months is a normal part of growing up. I don't think that emotional intimacy and soul bonds disintegrating in the face of practical inconvenience is a fact of life. I think that means something is deeply deeply wrong with our society and I will never forgive it for the friends I've lost

I’m disabled and it pisses me off so much when people use termination for medical reasons in the case of fetuses with non-fatal congenital conditions as a reason that abortion is evil and pregnant people shouldn’t be allowed to decide to end a pregnancy. I would not damn a dog to be dependent on the American medical system, much less a human being for the next 75+ years. Do not talk to me about eugenics until the mentally ill and physically disabled stop freezing to death on the street and dying of treatable illnesses because they can’t afford a caretaker OR their medication OR stable housing. If someone wants to terminate a pregnancy before that fetus becomes a living, kicking, screaming, breathing baby, you cannot compare that to the fucking vile things that happen to actual living disabled people in our society every fucking day. There are actual disabled people begging for help and you’re ignoring them to pretend like you give a fuck about unborn disabled “babies”.

So exhausting how the mainstream American news media will be like “Resurfaced tweet shows this progressive Democratic candidate tweeted ‘shut up cunt’ in response to a Nazi when they were 17 years old. This troubling misogyny and censorship shows the hypocrisy and inconsistency of the Democratic Party.” while the Republican candidate has called for Iran to be nuked off the face of the planet, groped multiple woman, been photographed snorting coke off a 19 year old exotic dancer’s breast while his pregnant wife was in the hospital and plainly stated he is racist. Like, why are we doing this? (I know why.) Why aren’t we talking about who is funding these people and what their positions on the issues are?

tbh I feel people are losing the plot with calling bear "evil." the point is that he's not evil, he's a regular dude who let his obsession and entitlement towards a girl he had a crush on drive him to commit evil acts against her. something that happens far too often in society, albeit in much subtler ways. calling him "evil" allows men to distance themselves from him, which is part of the problem.

What's really grating when people discuss Obsession is how much weight people put on Bear's wish. Like the wish is what made him the bad guy. No one can sit and say they've never wished upon a star or thrown a coin into a well for something to happen. You're not expecting it because logically you know magic isn't real. Same thing with Bear. There was no reason for him to think he needed to choose his words wisely while he was making a wish over a $7 toy he got from a novelty shop alone in his car. There was even less reason for him to think magic was real and the wish would work. Nothing that happened there made Bear the bad guy.

What did make Bear the bad guy was everything he did once he realized the wish was real. Once he realized that his action was causing suffering, then the onus is on him to stop immediately. That's why the dinner scene was so important because it wasn't the phone call to the customer service representative that made Bear realize the wish was real. It was the dinner scene where Bear is told that 1) Nikki sees him as a brother and 2) she lied about her dad being sick. Bear then asks Nikki if she loves him more than anyone else in the world and she says yes. Without a shadow of doubt, Bear knew the wish was real right at the moment. Yet in the very next scene he has sex with her knowing that she could not say no. This moment is what makes Bear the bad guy for the rest of the film, not the wish he had no reason to think would work.

more than anything i want a world where a trans girl realizing she is a trans girl faces zero fear from that realization and subsequent coming out. Where she can say "Oh sweet, I can just be a girl? Sign me up!", no worrying if shes girl enough, no worrying if society will accept her, no worrying if she'll be an attractive girl as she transitions, no worrying at all in any way shape or form.
