Blog Update Announcement

Hello everyone! 

I created this blog in order not to bother the followers on my personal one with too many Realm of the Elderlings posts. While I was reading the series and even a year after I became too obsessed. It is not as bad anymore and I would like to keep everything in my personal blog. Coming to a specific themed blog everyday doesn’t bring me as much joy anymore. Sorry.

I will keep uploading photos of the reread on my personal one and you can simply follow the tag “rote reread” or the blog @blackandwhitemotley for all of the series content.

I will need to reblog and like some posts from here to the other blog so that will take at least a few weeks.

My favorite examples of Beloved dropping heavy hints about his feelings and Fitz pretending he doesn’t understand.

“And in return for all of this you will tell me what is truly going on between you and Starling?”

He gave me a sideways glance. “Are you sure you want to know? The last time we made sure a trade, when I gave you the secret you’d bargained for, you found you did not want it.”

“Is this such a secret?” 

He arched one brow at me. “You know, I am hardly certain of the answer to that myself. Sometimes you surprise me, Fitz. More often, you don’t, of course. Often I surprise myself. Such as when I volunteer to slog through loose snow and dodge trees with some bastard when I could be parading up a perfectly straight avenue with a string of charming jeppas.”

I got as little information from him the rest of the morning.

I'm upset over SoM's Wintrow because in the end his critical thinking skills and ethics go straight out of the window and those were two of the things I liked best about him

Wintrow: saw through his dad's bullshit attitude after meeting him after years apart in book 1

Wintrow: has literally just been told by Etta, Kennit's girlfriend, that Althea was telling the truth

Yeah, I was pretty sad about this. I know not everybody likes earlier Wintrow, but I did. Hobb kind of quits writing him. As all the characters unite, you can feel him drifting into the background.

I think she ran into the problem that she wanted Kennit supported and trusted up until the end, but, in Wintrow, had a character capable of questioning that and willing to reveal the truth to everyone. She didn't lay any groundwork for Wintrow backing down in this scenario. Starting towards the end of book 2 we could have gotten a Wintrow willing to choose loyalty over what is right, but she only pays lip service to that, so it seems very out of character. Then at the end, she has him fail so horrifically, and prioritizes Malta, Althea, and Kennit for pov. Wintrow becomes more of a puppet to help wrap up the plot. She burned his narrative bridge and then shrugged and left him behind.

Anyway, I'm not heartbroken or anything, haha... ha.
