Devil's Crossing || Nora & Kai
It had been nearly three months since he’d seen Nora and her extremely odd posse. When the first vision had come to him, he’d sworn to himself he wouldn’t be sucked in by it all and that he would stay in Europe and let Val and her band of idiots take care of themselves. It was almost a whole month he succeeded with that goal. Yet here he was, walking down the streets of Oxford, Mississippi. He couldn’t help but grin as he though of how unhappy Nora must be to be stuck here.
He couldn’t help but wonder what it was that had brought Val here. It seemed an exceedingly useless town. But one ripe with supernatural danger. Kai was smart enough and in tune with his surroundings enough to feel the way that the supernatural peace seemed to be hanging by a thread.
But, as if he couldn’t tell that he and Val were both in danger, he trotted up the stairs to the loft he could sense Nora in. With a twist of his fingers towards the lock, the door swung open and he strode inside with a grand gesture of his hands, “Don’t worry, darlings, I’ve returned.” He could - of course - tell that Nora was the only one present at the moment, but that didn’t keep him from thinking that anyone and everyone in the world was blessed to have his presence.
He grinned as Nora came into view. “Well, if it isn’t one of my favorite ladies of the night,” he said, his accent so delightfully Welsh. Kai strode towards her and then used magic to pull her close and he wrapped his arms around her, hugging her tightly, grin still on his face from how he knew she must be grimacing. “I missed you so, darling.”
As much as he joked around and used sarcasm as a shield, he genuinely did care for Nora. He didn’t make heart eyes at just anyone, and Nora and his own guardian vampire were the only two he’d done so to in the past seven years.
Nora had been enjoying a peaceful evening indoors after the hell of the week she's had — and if Val was insisting that they step into the middle of impending war, then the vampire was going to make every minute of peace and quiet a good one. Or at least that's what she had planned. Nora had been in the middle of reading when she caught the familiar scent earning an audible "No," from the vampire.
She quickly tossed her book aside and headed towards her living room where Mordikai Meryln currently stood with a stupid grin on his equally stupid attractive face. She would rather walk into the sun than admit that that narcissistic warlock was attractive.
"What the hell-" the words died in the vampires mouth when she suddenly felt herself being pulled towards the blonde. Naturally, she tried to fight this even though she knew it was probably pointless. As expected, the brunette grimaced when she felt Kai wrap his wrapping his arms around her tightly (with a smug smile on his face, no doubt). Why? Why was this happening right now? "I wish I could say the same," she muttered, having no choice but to stand still as the warlock held her.
Fuck, he smelled great. Nora mentally kicked herself because had she really just thought that?
"What are you even doing here?" she finally asked, completely ignoring his previous statements. Nora would rather spend a century wrapped tightly in silver than admit she had missed the arrogant son of a bitch. Because yeah, she might have missed their bickering...and his smart comments...and his extremely blue eyes and delicious Welsh accent — Nora actually rolled her eyes at herself at that one.
"How did you even find us? Don't tell me Val actually summoned you here." Like hell that would be the case. Or at least Nora hoped so.
