I can’t count the amount of times I’ve tried to explain to people that their health isn’t a sure thing, one day you can wake up sick and just never get better….
being housebound and chronically ill is fucking wild because 99% of things people talk about have nothing to do with you. oh you're going out to eat? you're working at a job? you walk your dog? you fuck people you meet at bars? that's incredible. you are like an astronaut on the moon to me. oh you expect me to do these things? hahahaha die
one of the most frustrating things about being disabled and chronically ill is that everyone around you is allowed to be worried or scared for you. but the second you yourself say you’re worried or scared, suddenly it’s “you can’t be so negative, think positively, you might be totally fine in five years”
but i have to placate everyone when they’re telling me multiple times a day that they’re scared for my health??
health isn't a virtue.
people still go around acting like they've done something good in order to be able bodied and healthy. that they worked for it, that it's due to their moral fibre or good upbringing or self control. they genuinely, on some level, believe that they are a good person solely based on the strength of their physical abilities. they will resist the fact that it is largely down to chance that they were able to maintain such health. whatever they think they've built from scratch, the building blocks were already handed to them. not because they're more worthy of it, just by luck. and they really think they're worth more based on that sheer luck. i've met disabled people worth a hundred of the healthiest ableds alive.

medical professionals when a patient advocates for themselves in a medical setting (x100 if that patient is a part of any minority): damn. you’re a hypochondriac crazy bitch who has every mental illness and is seeking every narcotic in existence. that’s the only reason you’d be disappointed in the care you’re receiving here. in retaliation, we will be even less helpful and less sympathetic. our jobs are hard. people are dying. we don’t have time to deal with anyone who is slightly inconvenient for us.

Whenever someone comes online to speak about a negligent, discriminatory or extremely unprofessional and uncomfortable experience they had in a medical setting, medical professionals tend to swarm them just to remind them over and over again that their job is sooooooo hard and patients are soooooo mean to them and that there are soooooooo many sicker people, like the sicker patients aren’t also being humiliated and abused, like hospitals do not stabilize people and dump them back on the street to die, like deaths due to medical errors aren’t a major problem, like racism, ableism, classism and misogyny isn’t rampant in the medical system from the top down, perpetuated systemically and individually by providers. So many doctors and nurses hate to admit they’re wrong, they hate to admit they’re complacent, they hate to admit that their patients are all people, often having the worst day of their life.
you are playing with an imaginary toy in an imaginary sandbox. fandom is all about having fun and letting your imagination run wild. canon is only a suggestion, not a rule. how much of canon you will follow, if any, is entirely up to you.
please stop trying to apply rules on hobbies and something that’s supposed to be your comfort place and a form of self-care.

It's okay to disagree on headcanons, characterization and even canon itself, it's not okay to bash others for their own perspectives and how they themselves handle characters, though
Either way, it's still fiction, different perspectives and interpretations won't hurt anyone

I watched some videos by that guy who set up a fake ICE hotline to get people to snitch on members of their community. Not only is this very real and useful praxis- he's preventing these ghouls from reaching the real ICE- he also handles the calls in a really amazing way.
For the most part, he doesn't make accusations or insults people, he just repeats back the appalling shit they're telling him. And they get fucking furious. The example that went viral was him fielding a call from a kindergarten teacher who wanted to report one of her student's parents.
This absolutely disgusting piece of shit thought that the parents were "illegals" who were "taking up resources" because they weren't born in the US. The child was a US citizen because he was born here, but she wanted the "ICE" agent to "look into it."
So this dude just starts repeating stuff back like "so you want me to load the parents of the 5-year-old child you teach into a van and deport them, right?" and this bitch has the gall to say "you make it sound terrible 😅" in a self-conscious way. And then when he finally makes a more direct insult by nonchalantly saying that the 5-year-old "must be a major threat to national security," she demands to speak to his supervisor (which he agrees to and then makes no effort to change his voice for lmao).
This is far from the only call where the whole "repeat their rhetoric back to them" tactic pisses the caller off, too. As rotten, immoral, and disgusting as these ghouls are, I believe there's a tiny part of them that is aware of how fucked up their beliefs and behavior are. Being forced to confront that leads to painful cognitive dissonance and they'd rather lash out at the person who criticized them than look inward and do some self-reflection. Forcing people to confront their own cognitive dissonance of "I'm a good person" clashing with "I have objectively gross and harmful beliefs" is useful, even if it will never go anywhere.
I think leftists need to refer to the United States as a slave state more often. It has the highest prison population per capita of any nation, slavery is legal as punishment for a crime and black people are disproportionately imprisoned and given longer sentences. The prison industrial complex is modern day slavery
I think the harm of denying people the right to control their own bodies is so, so much worse than the risk of people regretting the decisions they make. Regretting something you decided to do is a much healthier pain than the pain of regretting that you didn't get to have a choice.
