Saw Wicked 2. idk how you can say the witch got a happy ending
Because technically, she did get her happy ending. All of the 5 major characters (outside of the Wizard and Madame Morrible) did in some type of fashion.
Throughout the whole movie and the musical, there were two things Elphaba wanted more than anything in the world. She wanted equality and acceptance of the animals and humans. But the 2nd thing we saw a lot more of in the 1st film was her underlying desire to be accepted and loved by others. Elphaba grew up shunned by literally everyone, and the only person who really had some type of love for her was Nessarose. Elphaba longingly wanted to have friends, have people love her for her, and not be a perpetual outcast because of her green skin.
In the end, she did get what she wanted. She found someone who loves her for who she is and sees past her green skin (Fiyero), and animals have been free and accepted back into society. However, Wicked always portrayed the idea that when you choose the behavior, you choose the consequence. And that goes for every major character in the musical and the film.
Glinda-Became a powerful figure in Oz, beloved by everyone, and climbed the mountain to the top. However, she had to push everyone else down to reach the top, and in the end, her rise meant that everyone else had to fall, and now she's alone at the top of the mountain.
Elphaba-Finally found someone who loves her for her (outside of Glinda), and her work allowed the animals to eventually become accepted and free. However, it's a world that she will never be able to see again.
Fiyero-Got to have his future with Elphaba. However, it's a future where is no longer human because of his choice to sacrifice himself to let her escape.
Boq-Finally got free of Nessarose and her clutches and got his revenge on Elphaba who turned him into a tinman. However, he is also now alone in this world and will forever be a tinman.
Nessarose-Did everything in her power to prevent Boq from leaving her clutches and managed to have Elphaba save him from dying. However, she will never be able to have a future with Boq because she died (Oh well).
The one thing I love about Wicked is that it doesn't hide the terrible consequences that came from everyone's decisions, and it doesn't try to redeem the characters to the point where they do not face the repercussions of these consequences. You actually see them having to live with the pain and regret of their choices. So while everyone in this movie does get their happy ending and want they want in their hearts, it's a happy ending that doesn't come without its consequences. And I think that's a portrayal of real life. We all strive to have happiness in our lives, but in order to get that happiness, we have to sacrifice something in order to get it.
