Honestly the idea that apparently porn is responsible for all these social ills is one that pisses me off to no end. Pornography is just a genre, it's just media. It does not cause any of these harms, it merely reflects social issues that already exist.
If porn is misogynistic it's because society is misogynistic, and the misogyny porn depicts isn't any different from that depicted by other media. Incest porn is a thing because of the power dynamics embedded in the structures of the nuclear family, if you actually want to stop child sexual abuse you need better sex-ed and to give children more freedom and power to escape abusive situations. Incest porn doesn't create the problem they're pretending to be angry about, that problem is the result of power structures.
Apparently they've also banned choking, which is recognised as a legitimately dangerous sex act, but if you actually wanna do something about that one you need better sex-ed, and to go in with a harm reduction mindset. If people are "learning" things from porn, that isn't porn's fault, it is a result of the faliure of sexual education programs.
Porn is a scapegoat, it's a way for people to look like they're doing something about an issue without having to adress the actual causes of the issue. Banning "icky" content that makes people uncomfortable only works to maintain the comfort of those people, it doesn't actually help anyone. Like how banning sex work (even if it is just the criminalisation of being the customer) hurts sex workers. It isn't about sex workers, it's about the middle class people who are made uncomfortable by the existence of sex work. Banning trans women from women's spaces does not "protect women and girls", it protects the comfort of transphobic cisgender women who do not want to share spaces with those they view as "degenerates" and "perverts". All of this shit isn't about saftey, it's about the comfort of the dominant group. It is a weaponisation of the acceptable victim status of middle class cishet white women against those they deny womanhood and personhood by portraying them as shadowy threats.
It is the decay of White Liberal Feminism as it builds associations with the Alt-right. The comfort of the Middle Class Cishet White Woman comes above all else, they use their acceptable performance of victimhood to activate the judicial power of the state and the violence of white cishet men against those they view as lesser, those who threaten the position of Middle Class Cishet White Womanhood. This same attitude can be seen in things like Islamophobia (white women happily become the "voice" that Muslim women aren't allowed to have, and portray Muslim men as violent rapists, justifying racism and genocide) and the phenomenon of white tears as it continues today (white women calling the cops on black teenagers, etc).
The white woman is a woman, but she is also white, and she will happily uphold the structures of white supremacy, transphobia, and middle class respectability as it serves her.
I genuinely belive we are living through the second coming of the "Feminist Porn Wars", and the reactionary white feminists have wasted no time in allying themselves with the right wing, just as they did the first time. We have to resist this, and the last time this happened we did and we survived, the sex positive and sexual liberationists and the sex radicals fought hard and well enough for us to pull through. We did it one, we can do it again.
Discomfort is a part of life, go make those evil ass white women uncomfortable. Their comfort comes at the expense of the lives of racialised people, queer people, and sex workers. We must stand on the side of those who cause discomfort, not those who would do harm to maintain their own comfort.
