Hot take: Nobody can convince me that Morty doesn’t hold this quiet, creeping resentment toward Rick—and honestly, toward his whole family.

​He represses it so well that he barely even notices it himself, just completely denying it until it finally snaps and boils over. Poor baby is so parentified, it hurts. I think as much as I love Rick, I want Morty to leave him for the time being.

im not going back to twitter to double check LOL but i remember people freaking out about morty saying hes ricks grandson and rick looking shocked in the new ep??? like of course hes gonna be shocked bruh he has no memory of morty, what are you trying to get at. worst thing about twitter is that its much harder to filter it out since the majority of people dont tag their posts. its beyond crazy how popular rckrty is to the point you have to activly avoid like 50% of the fandom, while the other 50% is really chill

It helps me to remember that Twitter is a cesspool in general and that in the real world, majority of people don‘t think about that at all, like go on Reddit and people will have never known that ship existed lmao. man honestly the most annoying thing about the “rick and morty are a couple” jokes in the show are not the quips themselves (because anyone with half a brain knows that they’re not meant to be interpreted as romantic) but the weirdos who take it literally and consider it as “proof” that it’s canon

I feel so bad for Rick :( hates himself so much, carries so much internalized shame from the trauma that was inflicted on him but it‘s even SO MUCH MORE COMPLEX because it was a version of HIMSELF that ruined his life and I just can‘t stop thinking about the layer that adds to everything. He never wanted this life 😭 and he thinks his intelligence is what makes him so depressed and while yes, that would definitely add to it, we saw that Ted was actually super smart himself. He built a spaceship! He was intelligent and it didn‘t hold him back from connecting with people and having fun, because what it actually comes down to is trauma. Ted didn‘t have all the memories Rick has and that‘s why he was happy, not because he was less smart :(

He finds happiness, a version of himself kills his lover, he hunts down that version of himself with a driving force that runs him into the ground. Those around him begin to resent him, and blame him after his tunnel vision leads to destruction around him. He ends up back where he started. With no way out than to numb the pain.

Since the new season’s trailers have shown Rick in a state intense disarray caused by drugs and alcohol and some of Morty’s reactions to it, here’s my favorite example of how Morty is actually intelligent. He just needs some extra..extra pressure to get past his insecurities.

“I’ll disarm the drunkenly improvised neutrino bomb. There’s a 40% chance that it’s a dud, but you should still stay back.

“Morty, how many of these?”

“Too many, Rick, too many!”

There’s been a lot of bombs that he’s disarmed because of Rick. If it was a 40% chance of being a dud, then what did he do when the rest of the 60% blew up? Morty does that math very quickly. He also shows that he knows how to deal with them when they do go off. Rick said that it could take out a whole planet. That sets up a whole new set of questions.

If he’s at home, he takes the portal gun while Ricks blacked out. Opens a portal somewhere that is hopefully evacuated or empty space and kicks it in. Anywhere else, try to drive away as quickly as possible and hope you don’t have to drag Rick into the car

I was just thinking about how Morty‘s just held back by his own insecurity! He‘s in his head so much and overthinks everything, he has no self-esteem and believes he‘s stupid and incapable, so it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. So his intelligence comes through when he doesn‘t have time to doubt it
