I feel like the cuck chair scene was more traumatic for the audience than it was for Alastor
vees + alastor polycule but vox has to be very careful about leaving alastor alone with valentino and velvette for too long because alastor WILL start plotting a coup d'etat to oust vox from both the relationship and the company. and val & vel are spineless traitors
can you believe this is canon now
Shock.wav dies but somehow gets redeemed and goes to heaven despite (probably) not having a soul and now Vox has to drag his ass to the hotel because he misses his baby
What do u think would have happened if Vox clocked that offering up partnership, to your media figure friend who knows your serial killer criteria, was a bad look. Even if it was Hell and no one died for keeps down there yet.
One concept that I've seen played with in oneshots before (but I don't think anything longform that I've come across?) is the idea of Vox hard-pivoting to straight up ask Alastor on a date instead. Like, he runs the idea by Mimzy ahead of time and she's like don't take this the wrong way because you are just adorable, seriously like cute as a button, but you know Alastor is going to eat you alive right? Isn't this like. Exactly what you used to say to people right before you stole their jobs and murdered them?
And Vox will, of course, be horrified and start babbling that that is NOT what he's doing OBVIOUSLY and Mimzy will be like. Well yeah of course not, you're like barely an Overlord and Alastor would chew you up and spit you out before you could even try. And then, after a lengthy conversational detour for Vox being offended at 'barely an Overlord' and Mimzy categorically sticking to her guns, Mimzy would be like. Okay but seriously what do you actually want? Because Alastor doesn't need your help and he isn't going to share his power just because you have an ego, so try again.
And after another lengthy conversational detour about how Vox doesn't have an ego Vox just has really great really amazing potential, maybe more potential than anyone in Hell has ever had actually, Vox will directly and morosely admit that he just thinks that Alastor is really cool and he wants to hang out with him all of the time and he's really lonely.
And Mimzy will squint at him and be like. A date. You want to ask Al out on a date.
And Vox, who just dropped dead in peak American Traditional Values Time ft. rampant homophobia will freak out at the implication that he is gay, or Alastor is gay, or anyone is gay and Mimzy without missing a beat will be like oh sorry I thought you knew already since you know you dress like that and act like that whenever you're around him.
And then after the THIRD conversational detour ft. Mimzy telling Vox that he should probably unpack and then pack up the homophobia around Alastor and Alastor's extended friend group of "people who were evading the law anyway to dance and drink and therefore had welcomed all sorts of people with all sorts of 'socially forbidden' characteristics and tendencies" and Mimzy also implying that she personally is not above kissing a hot girl when the mood strikes--
Vox will be like. Okay. I hate you, I hate this. How do you think I should try to ask Alastor out?
And after all of that like an entire hour and a half of whining and crying and belly-aching and self-discovery Mimzy will be like
Oh I have no idea. Alastor's never gone steady with anybody for as long as I've known him!
my deltarune fanart
the vees all perking up when they make each other laugh. velvette comes up with a witty name for a new clothing trend and preens when val cackles over it. vox makes a horrible dad joke pun and his screen physically brightens up when vel snorts. val snaps out a dig at one of his workers and his bad mood dissolves when vox chuckles. vees just enjoying each others company. u get me
Piece of Asian media: *has a title that's obviously not in English*
Fan Translators: hmm taking into account the intention of the original and the rules of both languages, plus the tone of the story, the best title would probably be something like Adherent of the Blade of Duality, but probably an official translation would want to shorten it to Blade of Duality, or perhaps Double-Edged Sword to borrow a popular turn of phrase that also fits thematically--
Official English Translators: Master of Double-Penetration

My stability
Alastor being enthusiastically willing to tear Vox open for any reason but always making an active effort to avoid damaging his screen despite how vulnerable it is—because really, what fun even is it if he can't see Vox's face? Half the joy of torturing him is watching all the silly things his screen does as he tries and fails to keep composure. That is absolutely worth leaving this one little part of him intact.
This will not however stop him from siking Vox out with the possibility that he might break his screen. After all, it's extremely vulnerable, and it's never not funny to make Vox flinch away from what ultimately ends up being a teasing tap. You'd really think he'd have caught on by now that Alastor never actually goes through with it, and yet...
for the record im not technially 100% anti-AI, in the sense that its a broad category of tech being lumped under one umbrella term so it feels over-zealous to say i hate all of it all the time forever. but i also think trying to discuss what it actually IS good for is difficult right now when i cant take one step without something trying to convince me to use chatgpt to summarize my life and speed up my hobbies and turn my friends into chatbots and optimize my life into oblivion. i am certain there is nuance to the topic but can we stop cramming the square peg into the round hole before you start trying to sell me on the legitimate benefits of the square peg. please.
I actually kind of do want to see Vox 'downgraded' back to box-form but approached as the grotesque whumpy horror concept it is. like that is quite literally one of Vox's worst nightmares, right up there with 'irreparable public humiliation' in terms of things Vox would flat out rather die than have to endure. whether by necessity or an external force his body is being altered against his wishes in a way he considers deeply and intrinsically degrading + deprives him of functional abilities he's come to take for granted. like imagine how isolating and disorienting it would be to be hooked up to a whole technological network and have the internet in your brain and an internal clock and the ability to send calls at will and all the rest of it, only for it to be abruptly ripped away from you all at once. the actual physical shape takes time to readjust to and when he finally does get used to it that's worse because it hits him all at once that he's starting to process this thing he doesn't want as part of his body instead of an invasive foreign object he's temporarily been made to host. and insult to injury almost no one can understand what makes it all such a big deal.
it's just. we could make it so fucked up. I feel like because a lot of people find Box!Vox cute and he seemed happier or at least more comfortable with himself during that period there's an automatic assumption that regressing back to that would be a positive or at worst neutral experience for him. And generally this reads to me as ignoring his actual values as a character in favor of projecting a preconceived set of priorities onto him—swapping one's entire head out is not a small thing and there are reasons he has made the extremely active and intentional choice to have the body he has now. reversing that decision would be an overwhelming violation of his body, mind, autonomy, and identity all at once, and I think that's fantastic.
I think everyone in-universe should ALSO keep telling Vox that this is a good thing. That the upgrades were hurting him. That this is his genuine realest self and he doesn't need to be constantly improving in order to have value and be loved. Which is almost an affirmation, but Vox doesn't want to be some anachronistic relic stuck in permanent 1950s stasis and all he hears is that he has no control over who he is, that every accomplishment is just a costume he was putting on, that he can never be more than what he is so he should just. stop. trying. and he is very normal and well adjusted about all of that
no. no. listen. alastor giving him all these not-quite-compliments that make it REALLY clear he likes vox better this way and is willing to reward him in the form of semi-explicit validation, and it's driving vox insane because he can finally have a sliver of Alastor's genuine approval but only by changing in a way that makes him hate himself. and contrary to all expectations the fact that Alastor apparently likes him more now does nothing to mitigate how awful it feels
(alastor, for the record, knows EXACTLY what he's doing, and it's the only reason he's being so openly nice in the first place)
"you got horrific detransition metaphors in my ableism!", "you got ableism in my horrific detransition metaphors!" and then the analogies kissed and the depressed queers with chronic health conditions got catharsis through a tv's suffering.
I think we need to kill the sentiment that people lose their right to personhood once they do something bad enough
I don't know who needs to hear this but you need to stop dehumanising people even if those people are "abusers" or "creeps" because you need to understand that you are not immune to doing something equally as bad
Abusers and creeps are not some species of especially heinous animal or alien or monster wearing the face of a human. They're people. And you NEED to drill it into your head that they are people because you NEED to remember that people are capable of doingn heinous shit. And you are a person. And your loved ones are people.
By emotionally classifying people who have done heinous things as subhuman filth incapable of thinking and feeling and acting just like you and me, and by using that emotional dehumanization as a reason to deny those people any compassion or support on a systemic level, you risk becoming blind to abuse/violence perpetrated by someone close to you or even yourself. Because if "abusers don't deserve rights", then you won't ever want to admit or accept that you or a loved one is perpetrating abuse, and that makes stopping the abuse or preventing further abuse much harder. This is how you end up excuaing abusive behaviour on the grounds that, since you don't see someone as a disgusting subhuman pile of garbage therefore they can't possibly be An Abuser, Trademark
And here'a the even harder pill to swallow: since the world isn't split into "abusers" and "good people", in the same way you or someone you love can inflict abuse/violence on others, the people who HAVE inflicted abuse/violence on others can, in fact, change and become better people
There is no bottomless chasm of moral uncleanliness that someone can run off and fall into and get stuck in forever. People can do better. Yes, even those people. You HAVE to accept this. Otherwise not only is there no motivation for anyone to try and do better (which is when people become stuck in a cycle of violence and abuse they don't want to escape), but your idea of a perfect justice system doesn't look any different from Literal Christian Hell. And I HOPE you understand that Literal Christian Hell is, to put it very lightly, not a good justice system.
