I saw this, and your other posts, yesterday, and was about to reply. I had typed something, but didn’t reblog it. I listened to it. I cringed. I really wanted to say something snide, maybe make fun of his ears or something, but I didn’t.

So, going through today, driving home from work… A Wild Hobo Johnson appears in my head. I remember the red crayon and getting arrested comment. I remember his weird little moustache. I remember that he lives here in Sacramento. He could be in his car on this freeway right now! Making annoying lyrics in his head! Gross! It was then when I realized what I actually needed to say.

The current paradigm of commercial artistic success has little to do with talent, and much more to do with sheer notoriety. Haters and fans are all the same. They are all voices that infect others and perpetuate knowledge of the artist. By inflaming the haters on the Internet, you will infect people who will become fans, and who will buy a ticket to one of his shows probably a few miles from where I live. And he will have more money than he did before, and more justification and means to continue doing whatever it is that he does, and pay his bandmates to follow along.

As a result of this post, megapope, you made Hobo Johnson a more relevant and successful artist. You validated it, whether you intended to or not.

There is something to be said about lyrics that are this bad, that evoke such strong emotions of hate. Maybe he is actually onto something, because if he wasn’t, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.

Now, if you truly hate an artist and want them to fail- Don’t talk about them. Don’t mention them. Just bury the thought and move on with your life. You didn’t do that here, and as a result, we will all continue to suffer.
