Most apex predators will not attack a human unless provoked, cornered, treatened or starving. Predators cannot risk injury, you can’t hunt while you heal and you can’t heal if you starve. They’re most likely going to look at you and decide you are not worth the risk and effort.

Large prey animals, however, do not evaluate things this way. If a moose feels threatened, it doesn’t start calculating whether to risk injury. They will flee if they can but fight if they must - death is inevitable but it will take you down with it if at all possible.

A wild boar, however, does not give a shit. They just want you dead.

Just as a heads up, this pattern is not really recommended for beginners. There is not a whole lot of explanation of the basic techniques, and it requires a fair bit of precision, two types of fusible interfacing, and an assumption that you can keep a consistent seam allowance and do some hand sewing and know when to sew things right sides together and such.

I am not promising anything, different methods will yield different results, I have never made a pattern exactly as it was written and neither should you. If you want something the same as the next person, go to the shops.

If they provide one ask them to send another with them holding 3 fingers up 5. If they refuse read step 3 6. If they provide a selfie where they show 3 fingers they are probably for real

Y’know, if you’re nervous we can just do Starbucks or something, I’m okay meeting in a busy place. That way your [adult/friend] can hang out, too, and they don’t have to pay for [admission, a movie ticket, whatever].” Your safety and comfort is important to me, and is important to any good person you meet online who wants to meet up IRL. In the early 2000s when I first started seeing online safety PSAs, this was a widely-spread tip. Use it.

And for the record, you can use this over the age of 18, too. I still won’t meet people from online except in public places. You never know–that person holding up three fingers and drawing a Pokemon on their palm could be some pervert’s child, niece, nephew, family friend’s kid who was encouraged to take some silly pictures. Always voice-verify and always meet in public, with another person if possible.

That’s not the right IRS rule.

$599.99 is the amount below which a business does not need to issue a 1099 to a contractor who provides business services. The contractor still needs to report the income on their taxes.

The correct number for the IRS rule for money that is gifted rather than received in a business transaction is $13999.99–more than that, and the recipient has to pay tax on the gift and report it to the IRS. Less than that, and there’s no taxation or reporting requirement.

If we’re choosing amounts on the basis of IRS limits, give these people $13,999.99.

While we’re all waiting for our cephalopod overlords to arrive, a giant steel kraken has taken up residence on the floor of the Caribbean sea. This fantastic 80-foot metal beast is part of a project entitled BVI Art Reef. It was deliberately sunk atop the Kodiak Queen, a decorated WWII fuel barge, in effort to stimulate the development of a new coral ecosystem and, in turn, create a new marine research and education center.

The Kodiak Queen, formerly a Navy fuel barge named the YO-44, was discovered by British photographer Owen Buggy approximately two and a half years ago on the island of Tortola. Instead of letting the historic vessel get picked apart for scrap metal, Buggy approached former boss Sir Richard Branson about collaborating on a restorative art installation. Together with nonprofit Unite B.V.I., artist group Secret Samurai Productions, social justice entrepreneurial group Maverick1000, and ocean education nonprofit Beneath the Waves, the project was established as both an eco-friendly art installation, and a philanthropic measure to rehabilitate native marine species.

Filmmaker Rob Sorrenti is currently creating a documentary about the construction and subsequent sinking of the kraken and the Kodiak Queen. The film is due out ealt next year, but you can watch a clip here:
