even tho I'm a transmasc (& transneutral) genderfluid dude who does have dysphoria but it's not very bad (it's mostly abt how people view me, but my chest is ehh not much and my bottom isn't at all bc I know im still valid) I still HATEEE height dysphoria. I hate my height with all my heart. for reference, I'm tall for my age (3teen) and country (America's average height for an adult female is around 5'4) because I'm 5'6 and still growing, but I've had so many people assure me I'm not growing past 5'9 and it makes me so pissed. Well its not for a fact only 12 year old who agree its an unhealthy coping mechanism as many certified therapist and psychologist agree its generally harmful and unsafe.

While it usually depends on the person most therapist have an agreement it is often an unsafe situation. While yes there are a few therapist that say its perfectly fine, there are also theres also therapist who tell patients with insomnia to give themselves a sugar rush to crash. There will be crappy spots in all fields a few therapist saying its alright while a majority of the rest agree it isn't doesn't make it safe and non harmful.

Just because there are a few therapist who were wrongfully qualified agree its safe and not harmful doesn't make it not a majority of therapist have a common agreement it is generally harmful and unsafe.

A professional is not unqualified for recommending proshipping as a coping mechanism, being neutral on it, or encouraging it. Also, I'll refer to it as darkshipping because that's the correct term. Just because darkshipping has the potential of causing negative feedback from certain groups of people, does not mean it's inherently harmful. That's WHY adults who are literal professionals recommend it. I'm not trying to appeal to authority, because anyone can be wrong. But trust me, fiction is the least of a therapists concerns.

Again, don't wanna be that guy, but it's just fiction. Yes, a topic which is problematic irl CAN affect you, if it triggers you and makes you uncomfortable. But saying that it's inherently harmful because it upsets a select few is a blanket statement and literally blatantly wrong. Coping mechanisms CAN be harmful, but in this case it's not. The average licensed professional would agree that what is harmful to one person is not harmful to another. Darkshipping can make some triggered or uncomfortable, but it doesn't mean it makes everyone triggered. People use it as a coping mechanism BECAUSE it helps. This is literally WHY people have kinks related to their trauma. It helps them process their trauma better by projecting it and revisiting the situation from a different perspective, and regain control, too. Even not using it to cope, literally just block the damn tag /lh.

This is not to argue! I want a respectful conversation (/nf), not a heated argument. You can debate without being rude! Also, plz provide proof for ur statements! :D

And, this isn't darkship but I'd say it's even MORE than just projecting onto fictional characters, A LOT of perisex afab women (since the survey was only interviewing cis women) have rape fantasies and kinks, specifically due to trauma. This is my example of processing trauma through kink and ships. Projecting onto a character can also feel like sharing an experience with a character you like, which can provide a sense of comfort when safe spaces don't provide that. But then again, you should be able to ship no matter what.

To say I have no proof would be Brantley incorrect as like I've stated with other users.

The issue of proahipping isn't triggers thats not at all it a small issue yes but part of the huge problem no.

The main issue is the amount of normalization,glorification, romanticization of abuse,pedophilia,incest,rape, and grooming which can further create a space for legitimate groomers,pedophiles, and even rapist. Along as the fact the community is wildy based of CHILDREN shows,games,characters, ect and actively exposed children and people under the age of consent to sexualy explicit content.

The minor issues of uncomfortablility or trigger is not at all my argument.

I have seen far to many younge children become victims to pedophiles through that community and then inturn come out with massive amounts of trauma or grooming issues.

To say it would be a small majority of people just wouldn't be right as majority of proship is sexual in some form of way from tiktok to insta to Twitter to tumblr and just on and on.

Activley allowing children who cannot even yet consent around sexualy explicit content is not right.

This is exactly why a majority of therapist would not recommend it and consider the strategy harmful as it has a high rate of issues coming from it.

Okay! Sorry for saying you have no proof, I saw your replies to people after! Also, my point about anarchism wasn't that you have to support things that make you uncomfortable, but that being anti-proship is being anti-anti-harassment (because proship just means you're anti-harassment).

I do think it's true that a lot of minors are subjected to sexually explicit things in the community, which gives pedophiles an opening, but this doesn't mean the community or ships shouldn't exist. You can apply that logic to almost any fandom. Problematic things will always happen, whether these communities exist or not. It's not the communities fault, its the predators who actively prey on children.

Still, saying you're "allowing" kids around sexually explicit content is also false because the people who do this specifically tell minors not to interact and make their content for adults (unless a minor is making it.) You can make the argument that minors will view it anyway, but at this point if you say that, then no one will be making posts like that at all in fear of a child interacting with a post that isn't even made for them.

The issue here is that people claim that darkshipping is inherently wrong BECAUSE the community has predators or gives leverage to predators. It's not. The shipping itself is not wrong. I'd also like to say no one is really normalizing it, because it's fiction. I feel like normalizing is more of when you encourage it and try to make something problematic seem normal or okay in real life, not in ships. Even if it was, the average person can definitely tell it's not actually okay in real life. The people who cannot shouldn't be viewing it in the first place, and it's not our job to baby proof our content.

I can also add many minors do actually consume sexual content and that's when people usually start developing sexuality-wise. If you do interact with this content where adults reside, it's definitely unsafe, but it's not inherently bad for them unless its doing psychological damage. When we see victims that were in the proship community, we can't just assume it's the community or ships itself that caused it. It's the people. These predators know that people interact with this typically benign content, post it, get interactions, and sneak in. In no way is that the community being inherently harmful.
