Sure I giggle and laugh when watching mash, but now that I’m on season 4, every episode to some degree makes me wanna cry a little now. All the small words, all the casualties, all the war just keeps becoming more and more real. You know, it starts with the helicopter noises and shelling and the characters having to let you know this means wounded and the enemy. But slowly you start to think “choppers, wounded incoming” as soon as a character looks into the distance or the sky in a wide shot, or the second you hear the beginning of a plane. At some point the casualties from season 1 go from a few hundred to a thousand. Your thinking, oh. Their taking 18 pieces of shrapnel out of a 15 year olds body again like they just did last episode and the episodes before that, and when did I learn the word shrapnel? When did Hawkeye saying They’ll never stop coming begin feeling hopeless instead of exaggerated, or hopeful that eventually they might just stop and the war might end. At some point as an audience member, it just starts feeling like their cycle of violence will never end and yet there’s still new ways children die, new ways the military completely destroys, and new grief to delve into. It’s like it was already over when it began. It’s an insane feat to have a show that’s capable of training the audience to think and anticipate like the characters. Every emotion you feel is in sync w/ the characters, and it’s all because you’re experiencing it all w/ them, if it’s new or old for them it is for you too.
my favorite part of mash is the random unmentioned probably ad libed background shit. i just watched bj empty a salt shaker into a sugar bowl in the middle of the conversation and no one even looked at him. similarly i’ve seen charles continuously add salt to his entire tray for 30 consecutive seconds. shenanigans like rubber chicken polishing or paper clip chain assembling/dismantling were more likely in the script, they’re happening in the foreground to be noticed or it’s mentioned in the dialogue, it’s the stuff that feels like genuine boredom and the actor messing around trying to make their costars break that feels extra special and even MORE organic than the winding of yarn we see more often than actual knitting. like real people trying to spice up the everyday repetitive drawl
I had a realllllly long flight so I used the time to watch as much of the live action Avatar the Last Airbender show on Netflix as I could and then I finished it at home today and I have some thoughts.
I like it. I think it was a pretty good adaption and I don’t think I mind the differences. Some of the scenes were a little more cgi obvious and some of the acting was… trying, but overall I did enjoy the experience. I’m interested in seeing where it goes.
I really enjoyed how they made the title screen change to whatever the nation they were in. It was a cool little detail.
Death Note AU where hbomberguy makes a five hour long video about youtuber Light Yagami that's initially completely unrelated to the murders (Light would probably plagiarize or have really unhinged right-wing political takes if he was on youtube)
but halfway through he reveals that while researching he stumbled upon evidence that Light might be behind the Kira murders, and then spends like fourty minutes explaining the concept of a shinigami, an hour explaining how he thinks Light used one to commit murders, and then another hour explaining Light's ideology and why the concept of criminals being inherently evil is flawed
He finishes the video by addressing Light directly and telling him that he (Hbomberguy) had his name legally changed before uploading the video, to something that only he knows, making it impossible for Light to kill him
Now Light. I know you're still watching, and I'm sure you've tried writing my name in your book. Or you've at least considered it - after all, if I die, then it points pretty clearly to you as the killer. But then, maybe Kira is just going to try to kill me in order to frame you. We get it, you're very clever.
If watching this whole video hasn't changed your mind - made you *think* about the humanity of the people you are just callously sentencing to death - then I'm at a bit of a loss. But I do know one thing you don't:
My legal name.
That's right. Before I uploaded this video, I changed my legal name, and have encouraged those in my life to do so as well. Frankly, trying to decide what my new name would be probably pushed back this video's release like, a month.
(Aside: Actually it didn't but we can all just pretend it did, it's way more interesting than the minutiae of real issues that cropped up)
So. Is Light Yagami Kira? I can't say for sure. It turns out, accusing a public figure of serial murder comes with a lot of legal ramifications! You would think I'd have learned by now that talking about people has "potential consequences" like "being sued by extremely litigious individuals. "
I spent a long time thinking how to end this video. The only thing I came up with is that there's no way to judge a person by just a list of actions alone. And yes that includes Light, the wanker. Courts spend weeks and weeks trying to litigate criminal cases and they still get it wrong! So even though I think he may be the actual scum of the earth, I hope I'm wrong. I want to believe that, given the opportunity, he wouldn't take the ten seconds to write down my name and take my life with just a flick of his wrist.
*long beat*
But I still changed my name so don't even think about it you little sh-
not gonna lie the show thus far has felt like rick riordan just subtly rewriting his book the way he would do it now to better develop characters and relationships and such and personally i’m here for it because it means we get shit like the consensus song and medusa being a sympathetic villain because girl she was a victim !!
My thoughts as I watched the Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1 on Disney+
Episode by episode random thoughts below, but overall I loved it. The actors are really good at what they do and I love who they chose as Percy, Annabeth, Grover, Luke, Clarisse… etc.. all of them were fun to watch.
Yeah I was disappointed with the ways many of the scenes were done, but I also don’t think an exact copy of the book would have been relevant now. It’s definitely been adjusted to suit the time period and just because they were changed doesn’t automatically make them all bad changes.
Episode 1:
They’ve definitely made some changes which is obvious. They always do. But I love Walker as Percy. He does such a good job. “Okay… Why?” Was hilarious.
Somehow they made Sally even more amazing and her “death” even more sad. Though it’s an interesting change to make Sally do a lot of what Book Percy did in that fight.
Episode 2:
Luke and Percy’s relationship is making what’s coming even worse! The pat on Percy’s shoulder when leave Hephaestus’ cabin 😢 they are really showing how close Luke made himself to Percy.
Percy’s sass! Him during the waiting time of capture the flag was perfect
I kinda wish they had kneeled when he was claimed but meh I’m still good with this.
“I am Sally Jackson’s son!”
Episode 3:
“Oh geez. You seem busy. I’ll come back.” Poor Percy facing the Oracle
Medusa’s place brings up a lot of deep questions. I kinda like the way they took this. Bringing attention to the actual horrifying truth that is the gods’ cruel punishments is something I appreciate.
The conversation they have after everything is done was a nice touch. Letting us see them actually talk things out and see the bond slowly forming is amazing.
Episode 4:
The moment Percy changes places with Annabeth was perfectly done. Loved it!
Athena “my child embarrassed me so she can die for all I care” vs Poseidon “like hell I’m letting my son die and if that means I make a water tornado to snatch him from the air then I will”
Episode 5:
I love the popping their heads up from behind the concrete when talking to Ares.
Making it modern like Ares starting a fight on Twitter is so cool in a way. Making them “relevant” to the modern world is such an interesting take. I’m looking forward to seeing if they do it with the others too.
“Push down a flight of stairs” is very suspicious. That’s exactly what Percy said when choosing Annabeth.
😂😂Percy is completely on top of this entire park being a creepy ghost place lol though the music break was great
Grover showing off his genius with his flattery of Ares!
Hephaestus changing his mind was good but Annabeth standing up to him (and her mother) was better!!
Grover worked out who stole the bolt?!?!? This would be different than the books, but I’m still willing to see where they go with it.
Though also a thought… we are definitely getting a lot more of the gods than the books gave us. Never saw Hephaestus and it seems like we are gonna see Hermes next episode.
Episode 6:
Oh. They were wrong about who did it. That’s good at least. Figuring it out so early would not have been a good choice.
Annabeth stealing from the god of thieves 😭 even if he let her do it, for those couple of minutes it was hilarious
Santa Monica was more heartbreaking than I thought. Show Percy was really expecting his dad. But the fact he was actually there is something
THEY WERE LATE!! Wow what a change!
4 pearls!!
Episode 7:
The lack of the Crusty fight is actually disappointing honestly
No DOA Recording… I loved that one. Dead on Arrival was just clever. And no pay raise conversation 😢
“Only suckers wait in line” showing your New York City there Percy
Oh no. Now we are down to 3 pearls. Show universe is really out here making Poseidon a better father by actually caring. First he was actually waiting to see Percy and then he gives 4 pearls.
Annabeth isn’t with them anymore 🤔 I don’t like that.
“Sanctuary” for just a second I was impressed with Hades then he explained then I realized it was incredibly pragmatic of him.
Wow. I hold no animosity to show Poseidon like I do Book Poseidon. The immediate answer to Sally… Wow!
I hadn’t really realized I had animosity to book Sally but Show Sally actually did her best to prepare Percy for the world where Book Sally just ignored it.
Woo! Let’s go Ares fight!
Episode 8:
And so begins Percy’s absolute hate against Ares that even transcends a goddess erasing his memories.
Ares didn’t curse Percy though…
Yo… Poseidon surrenders for Percy
And Show Zeus is better than Book Zeus at least for now. He’s at least willing to entertain the idea of Kronos rising.
Oh Luke… I was right… this was worse than the book
“I didn’t think you’d give them to Grover” that is the most heartbreaking line
The mouthing off to Kronos is awesome. Love it “Are you kidding me” he says 😂
And sadly, but also thankfully, no getting rid of Gabe through Medusa’s head by Sally (though still got him lol). Seems like they made him not as abusive on screen as the books showed him to be.
The true mental health indicator: do I actually spend money in Genshin to get Wriothesley after losing to Diluc so that I can get those happy chemicals 🤔

If there was one thing I could choose to rewatch for the first time, it would be Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. I think this every time I rewatch, but there are just so many things that get dropped on you that the reaction you have that first time is so much stronger.
I just watched episode 14 again and Selim came up to Bradley and looked so innocent. I can’t remember my initial reaction to the reveal, but I can bet that it was absolute shock and horror.
There is always that moment… that specific moment when you suddenly realize to yourself that maybe, just maybe you have watched something a little too much when you start quoting the entire dialogue… it’s never too much though 😁
I’m on who knows what number rewatch of One Piece and I just automatically quote random points all the time now. This is my life and it is obviously bright 😂 Definitely does not indicate a currently poor mental state… not at all
