kip's letter for a 16yo

Dear ,

I received your letter. I don't know if it will help you to receive this letter or not but the first thing I want to say is that I'm sorry for the pain you're feeling. I know this time in your life can be very difficult.

however, I want to promise you that things will get better. do not give up. do not give in. please know that your life get better, You just have to hang in there during some dark periods. and please trust me on the next point, if you're hearing things in your head saying awful things you need to ask an adult for help. you need to tell school counselor or a professional. I know this might not seem like what you want to do, but trust me, there is help out there, and my biggest regret that I never asked for it when I was a kid. find someone , an adult you can trust, and ask for help. the pain you're feeling doesn't have to be there. listen, normally, when a 16-year-old writes me I don't write back. however, in you case I'm worried and I hope you take what I say seriously. you are a good person and you are doing the right thing reaching our for help. please talk to people, adults you think you can trust. that can help you far better than I can. life can and will get better. please just hang in there. please trust me that things will get better if you just hold on. please take care, kip

kip in prison

in 2018, a group of lawmakers was made to research how children are treated in prison/ courts. a number of them were invited to kip’s prison to get to know the inmates and be able to meet directly.

a meeting was organised that kip attended, along with other inmates of his and the guests, and all sat in a big circle. everyone knew kip and what he had done so it was quite uncomfortable.

some of the guests later said that when they saw him, they thought about walking out.

various questions were asked, including “what’s something that you’ve wanted to do but have never done?”

to this, kip answered that he has always wanted to go to a concert.

the man who organised the group, floyd prozanski, attended the meeting and met kip. he said he expected kip to be ‘more deranged’, from what he had read about him.

a state representative, sherrie sprenger, did not like kip but she spoke to him at the meeting and asked him questions. she thought of him to be very respectful and showed remorse.

she asked him, ‘how about your sister? you killed her parents.’

to this he got quiet, and replied ‘my sister’s the best.’
