Biography
tw: alcohol mention, child neglect, abuse mention, suicide mention
Esmeray was born on October 31st 1993, that alone should have been a sign that her life would end up being a tragedy. She was born to a father who enjoyed a drink on many occasions, a man whose rage when mixed with alcohol could be a deadly combination. A mother who had been mistreated so long she had fallen into the role of victim, unable to escape. She wasn’t the first child of this unruly match surprisingly enough. She was the second, a brother five years older than herself, although you would think there were many more years between the two when you saw them walking down the street. He was protective of her, always putting himself between Esmeray and the life that his parents had created for the both of them. He wasn’t able to fully shield her but he did his best.
When Esmeray was five years old her mother finally got up the nerve to leave their father. She disappeared from the house in the middle of the night with nothing but the clothes on her back... the only problem being that she forgot about her children. Esmeray’s father was beyond angry when he awoke and as the days went on he needed a new punching bag when he was drunk. Aydin always was quick to offer himself up as sacrifice, feeling it was his duty to protect his little sister.
That seemed to become his life mantra throughout the years. Their fathers drinking only worsened after their mother left and when he had started to set his sights on Esmeray Aydin new it was time for them to leave. She was eleven and Aydin sixteen when he stopped going to school and started to work multiple odd jobs for people around town. He was determined to save up enough money to get his sister out of this town and more than anything out of that house, away from that man. She often spent time at Aydin’s friends house or around his odd jobs because he didn’t want her home alone.
By the time Esmeray turned eighteen her brother had saved up enough money to send her out to New York City to pursue her dreams of becoming an interior or fashion designer. She didn’t object, solely because she knew that he wouldn’t take no for an answer and selfishly she wanted to explore something that she never had before. She studied design at Pratt Institution and landed an internship with one of the largest fashion icons in the city. She had been on the verge of opening her own interior design shop when she had gotten the call.
Aydin had killed himself, no note left behind just her name on the deed of his restaurant and rundown apartment back in Port Whitley.
To say this came as a shock was an understatement. She had kept in touch with her brother and he had seemed alright. Was she such a bad sister that she couldn’t tell he was struggling? The choice was clear. She packed up her belongings and was on the next flight to Port Whitley. She would collect the things she had left of him and more than that, she was determined to figure out what had happened to him.
Planet of the Crepes
A small diner in Oakbrook that despite the name does not sell crepes, in fact most of the people working there wouldn’t know a crepe if it slapped them in the face. The diner was named by her brother who thought irony was the funniest thing in the world. Planet of the Crepes is known for employing excons and people who need to get back on their feet feet because Aydin always believe in second chances. Esmeray has newly acquired the restaurant after her brothers recent passing and along with it all of its debt. She should probably just take one of the many offers on the building but for some reason she can’t seem to let the run down old diner go, even though its basically ran into the ground and she has zero experience in the industry.
