Ironman I recently saw on NBC's the Today Show that men “grow up" at the age of 43. I find that to be a bit unrealistic; and so did Al Roker and his co-hosts. A man grows up when the back of his car is filled with a car seat, hearing his child's precious cooing. Don't worry dads, we know you put in just as much effort as mom. YOU are a superhero. There are many ways to wind down and lessen stress at home, aromatherapy being one of them. Certain scents are able to calm the body, the mind, and create a sense of peace within.

Does Stress Relief for Mothers Even Exist? We asked a mother "How do you remain calm at stressing times when you’re a mother?

Her response? "I don't."

She said, "Being a full time mother, wife, and having a job, I really don't have much time for myself. Tea relaxes me at night before I go to bed, and I just kinda reflect on the good things that happened that day. I'm constantly running around, and I'm pretty sure any mother can agree with that. I really attempt to leave my work issues at because I don't want to bring any type of negativity to my house. When I'm home with my family, I'm in my happy state. I guess the only real stress about being a mom is worrying about good health and financial stability. If anything my family eases my stress with love and laughter."

Banana and cinnamon pancakes with crushed walnuts, pumpkin seeds, maple syrup and apple slices.

These pancakes are gluten and dairy free! The recipe is as follows:-

1 mashed banana, 1 egg, 1 tbsp ground almonds, 1 tbsp brown rice flour, a few shakes of cinnamon and a tsp or so of coconut oil to cook them in. Mix that all together then voila! Pancakes. If your banana isn’t very ripe I’d suggest adding some agave or maple syrup. :)

Stats: (makes 3 pancakes) 280 cals, 9g protein and 20% daily fibre. Awesome.

Eliminate Stress by Adopting Healthy Lifestyle Practices

  There are various triggers for feeling stressed out and there are many healthy ways to ease stress levels. This month, Essence of Vali is sharing ideas for keeping stress levels at a minimum by adopting safe and healthy practices. 1. Be present to the moment and write down the things that you are grateful for in your life including the people in it.

2. Make sure you are eating a healthy and nutritious diet with non processed,whole foods. Some of my favorites are large salads with sunflower seeds, avocado, radishes, yellow pepper, sprouts, nori strips, chia seeds, lots of water, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries and green juices.

3. Exercise regularly, even if it is just a 20 minute walk. I love jumping on my mini trampoline and taking restorative yoga. Also one of the most stress relieving things you can do is ‘take a bath”. Try our “calm” massage and bath oil at night for a lovely stress relieving ritual.

Why Are Teens So Tired?

Teens and adolescents are notorious for staying up in the wee hours of the night and they’re so hard to wake up in the mornings. Research has shown that teens get very little sleep these days. Some say it’s biological. Others believe that there are so many distractions that can contribute to their tiredness. Teens ultimately need 8-9 hours of sleep every night. How Much Sleep Do We Really Need?

 It is said that adults require 7-9 hours of sleep. There are different factors that come into play. For instance, pregnancy can change a women’s body and increase the need for sleep. When we age, older adults need about the same amount of sleep as younger ones. When you age, sleeping patterns do change and adults end up sleeping more lightly and make awake a bit more. And if your sleep is frequently interrupted or cut short, you’re not getting quality sleep.

  Research has shown that people who sleep little over many nights do not perform as well on tasks, at work, deal well in their family lives and ultimately less than 7 hours of sleep over a long period of time leads to a higher mortality rate.

Self Love: The Path To True Love

  Happy Love Month!

This month we are all about the love! Every week, we are going to discuss a different category of love. I want to kick it off with self-love. We need to start with some introspection to gain a deeper understanding of the love energy we send, and thereby, receive.

 I want to start out this week’s tip with a question: are you looking for love? Maybe you’re looking for more satisfying love?

 If so, let me share a truth I know for sure: Self Love Is The Path To True Love.

 I want you to carve out some time over the next couple days to think about how much you love yourself and how you treat yourself. Pay attention when you talk about yourself both to others and internally. Are you positive or negative? Are you constantly putting yourself down or are you kind and gentle?

Who you draw into you life and how they treat you is influenced by how you treat and regard yourself. If you are your own worst critic or feel unworthy, you will inevitably draw people into your life who will agree with your self assessment. At the other end of the spectrum, if you treat yourself with respect, love, and high regard, others will to. People look to you to set the example of what you believe is acceptable behavior. Remember: you reap what you sow!

 Along with being mindful of how you talk about yourself, I want to give you a 7-Day Self Love Challenge: every day do something super sweet for yourself. Treat yourself like you would a small child whom you adore.
