Some Bradley & Colin's Characters🥰
RedDragon!Arthur with his CourtSorcerer!Merlin
To others, the yellowed pages hold nothing but a legend; to him, they hold the very ideal he has believed in, the faith he has clung to, the other half of his soul, the one he has loved devoutly, and waited a thousand desperate years to see him again.
Inspired by twi: solisolsoli
This AU is like a reversed Twilight: Arthur is actually of dragon descent—a red dragon. The Pendragons are a clan of dragons who take human form, distinguished by scales of different colors. Igraine did not die giving birth to him. In fact, Arthur loves the sun, yet he can only go to school on overcast or rainy days, under sunlight, patterns of red dragon scales emerge across his skin, and his body temperature rises noticeably, burning to the touch.
As a dragon drawn to magic, Arthur feels an immediate pull toward Merlin the moment he sees and smells him. He longs to be close, yet is determined not to harm him. What he doesn’t realize is that this intense attraction isn’t just love at first sight — it’s also because Merlin’s magic is extraordinarily powerful.
(I actually used some scenes from the Twilight movies as visual references for the background :D)
Soul Fragment AU Part 6
In essence, it's an AU where Merlin has spent 1500 years completing quests to gather soul fragments and hasten Arthur' return.
I love the idea that Bradley's other characters act as Merlin's objectives, he saves them from their destined tragic ends.
Here is Merlin&Arthur's story(text from the painting):
Merlin Emrys
— Magic itself, a legendary warlock who has walked the earth for nearly fifteen centuries.
For a long time after learning the dragon's prophecy, he drifted in a hollow, waiting stillness. Unable to remain in Camelot, he built a dwelling by the lake with the help of the Queen and the remaining Round Table. Even with Emrys as its guardian, Camelot could not withstand time’s erosion, the castle eventually became ruins.
Then, one night, Magic sang under the starlight. A whisper came on the breeze from the Lake of Avalon. He learned of a task: to gather fragments of a soul so that Arthur might wake sooner. This would not hasten any unknown Albion crisis, it could be seen as fate’s amends.
The first was in Jomsborg. Seeing Harekr, who looked almost like a middle-aged version of the King, he wept and laughed.
The second was in Florence. By coincidence or fate, he and Giuliano became friends in a quiet, complicated way. After the incident at the church, it took long hours and countless healing spells to barely pull him back from death. When Giuliano (still weak) discovered the walls covered in portraits of Arthur, Merlin told him the truth.
The third was almost an accident. With no news of fragments for so long, he went to the Crystal Cave. In a vision, he glimpsed a still-"young" Varga, and managed to enter the manor to bring him back.
The fourth and fifth tasks overlapped. Posing as a retired battlefield medic, he made contact with two fragments at once. The power of the beast was so volatile that even Magic cried out in strain — so most of his communication with Lowell happened over text. He had just devised a spell to alter a zombie’s dietary needs when things went wrong; Lowell almost lost his head. After healing him and bringing him to the lake, Merlin explained everything and accepted his invitation to dinner.
Perhaps because the Old Religion and beast's power were so incompatible, not even he could afford to relax. He worked long and hard as a "guardian angel" beside Damien, they got along well, partly due to Damien's work as a war correspondent. The long process of tempering that demonic power, though, was not something easily put into words.
The Once and Future King’s return was inevitable. After inheriting the memories each fragment shared with Merlin before their point of death, no more needed to be said. Two sides of the same coin, reunited. Magic sang through sky, earth, and sea. Before them stretched an eternal, radiant future.
They lived happily ever after.
✨✨✨✨✨
Arthur Pendragon
— The King of Camelot returned to the world of men. The Once and Future King. The other side of the coin.
"Stay with me…"
Those were the words he heard as his vision blurred and consciousness began to slip away.
Just one more moment… a little longer…
That unfinished confession, the love hidden beneath words of thanks…in the end, it all faded into the air along with his life. What a cruel fate.
What followed was but a blink in the long river of time — a frozen amber, resting in the dreamless, sensationless peace of Avalon’s sleep.
Then, memories flowed into him like golden blood through his veins, both his and not his. Yet in every one, there was the same face: that dark-haired, blue-eyed fool of a servant, that heartbroken sorcerer, looking at him with devotion and love.
Merlin. His Merlin.
No matter how many years passed, no matter how his hair or clothes changed, to Arthur, Merlin would always be Merlin.
The memories grew clearer, fuller. Time was almost up. This was fate’s offering… and its apology.
“Arthur will rise again.” That prophecy had never been an empty promise.
The first face he saw upon opening his eyes, who else could it be but that idiot?
Meeting those tear-filled eyes, the King cupped the face of his destiny, his soul, the face he had missed beyond measure, and kissed him through a trembling breath.
"I'm back..."
They lived happily ever after.
✨✨✨✨✨
By the way, two of Merlin's looks are inspired by Colin's works: Mammals, Dead Shot, and The Living and the Dead.<3
Soul Fragment AU Part 5
In essence, it's an AU where Merlin has spent 1500 years completing quests to gather soul fragments and hasten Arthur' return.I love the idea that Bradley's other characters act as Merlin's objectives, he saves them from their destined tragic ends.
Here is this Damien's story(text from the painting):
—The Antichrist, the false Messiah, son of Night, the slumbering Beast. At least the goodness within him remains.
A dark possibility of the King? Why he became a fragment may forever be one of fate’s unanswered riddles.
He first met Merlin in a veterans' hospital. Amid the indifference of the staff, Merlin seemed to glow: giving directions, talking about PTSD, those clear blue eyes brimming with genuine care.
His heart hammered wildly. But he couldn’t find the will to live.
This is where it ends.
He thought, sitting in the car, waiting for death.
A pity… I’ll never see them again. Those eyes, that person… more beautiful than anything in this world.
...Whose voice was that?
A wretched nightmare. Struggling, fury, collapse, hatred for the world, he woke up tangled in it all.
Yet after Ann left, those longed-for eyes appeared again. Messy black curls, tear tracks stark against a pale face.
“You’re alive,” Merlin choked out, voice trembling. “Thank God.”
Merlin confessed everything. He was stunned. He burned with envy. He fell silent. And still, he couldn’t stop his heart from racing.
The psychiatric ward was an absurd, wretched place. Merlin said he needed to go home for a while.
He feared he’d never see him again, yet he had no right to ask him to stay.
......So even if he died as he wished, would there just be another replacement?
He took the warlock’s hand.
Gazing into the dark-haired sorcerer’s smiling face, sinking into those blue eyes, weathered by centuries yet still lucid as a deep pool.
The possessiveness and love in his heart churned and spilled over like molten lava.
He is MINE, he thought.
Soul Fragment AU Part 4
In essence, it's an AU where Merlin has spent 1500 years completing quests to gather soul fragments and hasten Arthur' return.
I love the idea that Bradley's other characters act as Merlin's objectives, he saves them from their destined tragic ends.
Here is this Lowell's story(text from the painting):
—Another modern non-human fragment. Thanks to his zombie nature, he can't truly "die" again.
(Probably the only fragment from whom the King inherited zero memories. Arthur is profoundly grateful : "I do not need to know what human brains taste like, thank you. Rat meat was bad enough.")
While living in the UK, as he grew older, the dreams came more often :castles, cloaks, armor, knights, death. He eventually moved to the States, citing heartbreak as the reason. Just as he was settling in, he got bitten.
The good news: as a singer, he can now handle any level of spicy food. The bad news: if he doesn’t eat brains, he will literally lose his mind.
Let’s skip how he met the forensic examiner. During a police statement after an incident, perhaps because those years of dreams had made it all feel familiar, he spotted someone passing by — pale, frail-looking(actually Merlin, who’d come looking for him guided by a vision) and mistook him for a fellow zombie.
Running into another gorgeous zombie within a week? That’s pushing it.
Anyway, he boldly asked for the man’s number. They started texting.
What happened after… let’s skip that too.
A gunshot echoed on the rooftop, but no pain followed.
Before him stood a beautiful, mysterious dark-haired man, eyes flowing with burning gold.
When he woke again, Merlin told him everything, about the dreams, the past, what he now was.
Magic couldn’t make him fully human again, but it could remove the need for brains.
And so, he returned to England.
And also…
Merlin, would you like to have dinner sometime?
I really love your Soul Fragment AU it makes so much sense in my opinion!
I also love the fact of Merlin meeting the fragments of his dead husband(?) bc the ANGST POTIENAL IT HAS >:D
Just imagine seeing your dead husbands soul in many people and not the one you feel in love with.
They're him, but then again, they're not him.
Merlin will have to look every single day of his immortal life to many faces that resemble the soul that he waits for.
I feel like Merlin does love each and every one of them equally. Yet it won't compare to the love he has for his king, his prat, his clotplot, HIS Arthur. Yes he does love them in a way he loves his Arthur, yet he knows he cannot love them exactly the way because these fragments live different lives. Different from the one he lived with his king
Loll but just imagine a scene where Merlin catches a fragment doing something that was so much remind him of Arthur that he has to take a breather. He tells himself that that's not him. It is him, but not him. Sure the fragments have his face, somewhat of his personality, and possible does some things that closely resemble his Arthur. Yet Merlin knows that these are just fragments of his soul
(btw I'm so sorry if I misinterpreted this au by my writing. I just love it so much I'm so excited to see the other fragments and how Merlin meets them. Thank you :DD)
Oh my goodness, thank you SO much for your kind and thoughtful comment! You put into words exactly what I was thinking!!
Even the fragment who looks and acts the most like him… it’s like that line: “There will never be another like you, Arthur.” I just wanted Merlin, in his long wait, to see this hope of Arthur’s return and actually be able to do something to make it happen. Plus, the fragments really have inherited parts of Arthur too and they genuinely want to love Merlin. As for the “competition” aspect, I think Arthur’s charisma is enough to make all the fragments think, “Well, if I have to `lose' to someone, I guess it has to be him” XDD
I sometimes imagine little moments of friendship and fun after Arthur meets all the fragments. Like Giuliano realizing he's the most normal and the best cook among them all. Or Arthur and Merlin leaving Avalon to travel the world, and Arthur casually complaining to Merlin about the absurd things he's inherited in those memories during their journeys... I just want them to be happy so badly!<3
Soul Fragment AU Part 3
In essence, it's an AU where Merlin has spent 1500 years completing quests to gather soul fragments and hasten Arthur's return.
I love the idea that Bradley's other characters act as Merlin's objectives, he saves them from their destined tragic ends.
Here is Varga's story(text from the painting):
He's the fragment who most resembles Arthur in appearance and is unique in every way.
The destiny he was supposed to meet was intercepted by Merlin before it even began. Unlike other fragments, he has no "death" point.
(The returning king only inherits memories related to Merlin up until the next fragment appears.)
He was still a fledgling "young" vampire when he appeared at the mansion in Brussels. Obviously, the blood of Magic itself was far more tempting than any other sustenance. He offered no resistance when Merlin took him away, practically raised by Merlin from "childhood."
His vampirism isn't magically induced but genetic, so 'sunlight is fatal and starve without blood' even magic can’t cure.
He’s likely the strongest among all fragments in physical ability, combat skills, and marksmanship.
When he learned about the other fragments, his attitude did a complete 180.
Now, during meals, he shoots his shot without restraint, pushing his luck, stepping over lines, and refusing to let Merlin leave.
But since he’s stuck underground and can’t get out, he’s long been kicked out of the group chat (though he doesn’t know it).
Soul Fragment AU Part 2
In essence, it's an AU where Merlin has spent 1500 years completing quests to gather soul fragments and hasten Arthur's return.
I love the idea that Bradley's other characters act as Merlin's objectives, he saves them from their destined tragic ends.
Here is Giuliano's story(text from the painting):
One of the earliest fragments Merlin saved.
(Though to be fair, the only one earlier than him was Lord Harekr.)
He was pretty bummed for a long time after realizing he couldn't go back to Florence to help his family — I mean, if you survive a dozen stab wounds and still running around, people would probably break out the holy water and try to perform an exorcism on you.
As the fragment who looks the most like Arthur (except for Varga who lives underground), he's endured the most of Merlin's tears and pleas of "Don't leave" , so his hobby became finding ways to cheer Merlin up.
He originally wanted to compete for Merlin's heart, but soon realized he couldn't win, and didn't need to.
(After all, no one could ever surpass Arthur's place in Merlin's heart.)
So he miraculously accepted his role as the "balcony Romeo".
His most jaw-dropping line to Merlin:
"Aren't I better than your husband?"
Soul Fragment AU Part 1
In essence, it's an AU where Merlin has spent 1500 years completing quests to gather soul fragments and hasten Arthur's return.
I love the idea that Bradley's other characters act as Merlin's objectives, he saves them from their destined tragic ends.
Here is Lord Harekr's story(text from the painting):
The First and Most Unique Fragment
After five long centuries of waiting, Merlin arrived at Jomsborg with Excalibur (now seen as a complete alteration of history). He remained there as his priest for a long time.
With relatively low moral integrity, he emotionally abused and used Merlin for a long time. After nearly causing Merlin's 'death', he was forced to confront his feelings, only to discover that Merlin, who had long been aware of the manipulation, was genuinely willing all along. Deeply shaken, he experienced a profound enlightenment as his humanity and guilt finally surfaced.
In the end, the two left Jomsborg together. He greatly enjoyed intimacy with Merlin.
Because Emrys posed as a messenger of the Norns and inadvertently avoided his initial "death" node, Merlin was left weakened for a long time.
Their home by Avalon belonged only to the two of them, until new fragments emerged in the 15th century.
Dance Duet with an Italian
The same soul and a similar face—after all these years of waiting, this invitation must be hard for Merlin to refuse.
I'm not sure if the Italian form of address is correct, and I apologize for that. <3
I still can't believe "just hold me" actually happened
Always make me cry 😭💔
