how it feels when one of your hyperfixations comes back and stronger than ever
how it feels when one of your hyperfixations comes back and stronger than ever

Crowley could not have used the Book of Life or his high level angelic/demonic powers to bring the world back because those things are part of the unjust system he is trying to end. By being a supernatural being, even as a demon, Crowley is in a relatively privileged position over humans. Dismantling that damaging, oppressive supernatural system means also giving up that privilege. As part of the system, literally created to be a tool for manipulating creation, he had to change along with it.
Using that power would be like making himself into a god, even temporarily. Holding onto even a small piece of it for his own benefit, or for Aziraphale's, would undermine the dismantling of it. So he chose to bring the world back through evolutionary, natural, and thus self-driven means rather than magic.
Yes, he deserved a better outcome, and so did everyone else, that's the point of what he did. That better outcome only can exist in a more equal world.
As for the human-created problems on Earth, he can't fix them as a superior being. He has no right to use his power to decide how to help, who deserves help, who he should listen to, what side he should take. He knows right and wrong, but it's not his place to take authority and impose it. Humans have to solve human problems. It's like the difference between a billionaire using their money to help people, which requires that they choose who gets help and what outcome they're aiming for, and a billionaire taking apart the political and economic system that allowed them to accumulate power-via-money in the first place.
I don't usually like stories about a hero making a supposedly selfless sacrifice because it often feels like an artificially forced choice. But I think part of what's so upsetting about this ending is that there are no real alternatives, and that has difficult and scary implications for the real world. Fixing systems of oppression means trusting that giving up privilege will still leave a place for you in the new world. But you might have to radically reinvent yourself to find it.
Crowley's one misunderstanding was that he and Aziraphale, as supernatural beings, were not already a part of the world and thus wouldn't have a place in it anymore. Or at least, he was willing to accept that possibility. But they did come back because no matter how much they may have felt like outsiders, their existence as people was just as much a natural part of the world as the humans they wanted to be like. In the end, dismantling unjust power and giving up their privilege also freed them to feel a real, equal connection to the world, just as they always wanted.
It's sad and upsetting and also beautiful and hopeful.
All Right Listen Up
I'm not going to talk about the finale exactly, but actually I'm going to talk about the finale. Sit your asses down for some truth bombs.
*clears throat*
The human race is worth saving. Humanity has intrinsic value and is worth saving.
I genuinely believe that a good chunk of the animosity towards the ending is that we're not really sure of that these days. And I get it. Things are really bad on the surface, and we don't know how to make it better.
But listen. The people fucking up our world are few. There are like ten assholes working together to fuck us over, and there are billions of us. And the billionaires are mortal. The systems they've created and manipulated to gain power are temporary. Humanity doesn't have to be. Art doesn't have to be. Whimsical costumes and bedtime stories and fairies and unicorns, those things can go on forever if we decide that they should. Billionaires die. Oppressive religious hierarchies die. Imagination doesn't, and neither does love.
And THAT is the theme of Good Omens. A theme that they brought home in the last minutes of the finale.
Humanity is worth saving, and I'll fight anyone who says otherwise.
why the fuckkk is good omens' main tag on prime comedy ?? BROTHER NO ONE IS LAUGHING
Smitten 😇
"they didn't get a happy ending" BUT THE WORLD WAS HAPPY THE WORLDDDDD THE WORLD THEY CHOSE THE WORLD THEY CHOSE THE PEOPLE WHO THEY GREW TO CARE ABOUT AND THE HUMANITY THEY'VE WATCHED GROWWWWWWWWW
maybe somewhere in the middle of nothingness they're there and watching two men who look like themselves fall in love
coming online as someone who liked the finale
me after finishing season 3
Your love for him was the messiest, silliest, most predictable thing in the universe. And it always made me smile.
i do not understand how you can say that the ending somehow erases or destroys their relationship, that six thousand years "don't matter" anymore as if death erases love. as if death erases meaning. as if their love isn't literally the reason for creation.
as if the entire movie was not created out of love for terry pratchett and his stories, his life. as if his memory isn't the reason we have an ending to the story in the first place.
as if you cannot see and feel how much they cared, as if they haven't immortalized him yet again in the movie itself.
great job everyone lets hit the showers
Not again
gentle reminder that you can’t get this kind of nonsense from any other site
The Metros absolutely crush Buffalo, and Shane's phone get's broken in the post-game locker room celebration chaos.
He is Freaking Out bc he doesn't actually know what Ilya's phone number is. His SIM card got crushed underneath a pair skates, so there's no recovering "Lily's" contact card.
On top of that, his old Ottowa number won't transfer to his Montreal provider. So "Lily's" texts will now be delivered into the ether. Or to some random person's phone if his old Ottowa number gets given out again.
Ilya of course has literally no idea this has happened and is sending his usual flirtatious messages to...silence. No response. He's not even getting left on read. Because the messages aren't even getting read. He goes through the five stages of grief. Fuck Shane Hollander, he doesn't need this shit. They're supposed to play against each other Tomorrow for fucks sake. His resolve lasts for about....two hours? And then he's on social media. What's this fucking asshole up to that he can't even read Ilya's texts?
He pulls up the first interview, the one right after Buffalo. Shane looks....really stressed out. Which is confusing given that they've just won.
"Yes of course I am super happy to win. Unfortunately the locker room celebration did get a little out of hand though."
He holds up his mangled phone.
"So if you're trying to contact me, sorry about that!"
He's blushing and smiling and seems so flustered and embarrassed. He's looking at a camera, millions of people can hear him, but he's speaking directly to Ilya. Ilya's face breaks out into his "you have a stylist?" smile. He feels....a little embarrassed about his crashout, but also super fucking relieved. Ilya swipes through a couple more videos and watches the most recent interview.
"We are absolutely looking forward to facing off against the Raiders. Also I brought this up last time but, turns out I can't keep my old phone number. So if you're texting me and I'm not responding, it's because I can't!"
He laughs, but it seemd a bit forced. Like he might tear up if he gets pushed the wrong way. Ilya goes back and watches through all the interviews since the Buffalo game. Shane has found a way to bring up his broken phone in every single interview for the past two weeks. It's so sweet...and also a little heartbreaking. He knew exactly what was gonna happen, and was terrified of Ilya thinking that he didn't want to talk to him. He didn't want Ilya to feel alone and confused and upset. He's so fucking ernest and endearing.
Ilya cannot Wait to give him shit about it on the ice tomorrow.
I tend to think that Buck felt attracted to Eddie the very first time he saw him. But then both Chim and Hen said they found him attractive and neither of them is attracted to men, so it must be an objective fact, right? So he didn't examine that feeling any further. And here we are...
rocky: im not a scientist, im like the least qualified person on this ship, the only reason i survived while the actual scientists died was pure dumb luck :(
ryland grace's internal monologue like every five seconds: oh my god this guy is like a supergenius, he's literally the best engineer i've ever seen, there's no way every other eridian is this smart, like do you even KNOW how cool you are-
meanwhile grace is like: im a coward, im selfish, i put myself over the entire world, im not brave
and rockys like: grace is the bravest person ive ever met. he is brave and selfless in ways he cannot see yet and if he will not tell himself that then i will say it for him
if it's any consolation, you'll be hailed as a hero
