reminder to all disabled people that you’re allowed to tell people “i can’t do that” about stuff you can ‘technically’ do but which harms you or requires a period of recovery or preparatory rest etc. you don’t have to explain the complex nuances of your condition to anybody who demands it. i’ve found it’s honestly better to give the least amount of info about your symptoms unless you trust a person a lot. you hold the power over your health information. you choose whether or not to share the details of your condition with people who might not understand.
People of tumblr, I believe in you. I trust you to make the right choice. I truly believe we can make this a reality. We have the power. We can achieve anything we put our minds to.
We CAN make Count Binface the next Tumblr sexyman.
do you ever find yourself speaking english but using welsh words? like spanglish but… welshglish i guess? like if you’re bitching abt the heat, instead of saying “it’s hot outside right now”, you’ll say “it’s poeth outside night now”. sorry if this question is incomprehensible.
I do! It's called Wenglish, which is an English dialect spoken by a lot of Welsh people where we just drop Welsh words into English sentences - it's just a thing we do!
I'll also often use Welsh words if I genuinely can't remember the English word, or if I find it unnatural to use English words in some contexts - why say 'my grandfather' when I've always referred to him as Taid?
The inverse is also just as common, where we speak Welsh but drop English words in there, or take an English word and Welshify it a bit (driving = dreifio, loving = lyfio, cooker = cwcer).
"erm actually this thing you said you experienced, where doctors treated you wrong, is illegal!!" Do you understand that medical malpractice is a real thing and not just a plot device from House MD. You get that, right. Right??
No,,,,,,, we are not!
prynhawn da TPC, I know a Gog is someone from north wales but I'm curious as to the origin of the term if you could shine lighy, diolch!!
Pnawn da, person anhysbys!
It’s not particularly exciting; Gog is just short for ‘gogledd’, which means ‘north’!
The colloquial term for South Walians is much funnier in my opinion: ‘hwntw’, which comes from ‘hwnt’ meaning ‘over there’ or ‘yonder’ and therefore suggests there’s no such thing as a South Walian, only people from North Wales and people from over there.
I had a look at this twats' Youtube and site - he is a vocal supporter of the far right anti immigrant group Restore Britain (which is even further right than Reform UK), and is hiding his racial biases behind the talking point of 'if you have European ancestry, you're able to join our communities' in some sort of front that they 'really care about protecting European culture'.
I'm frustrated I just found out about this recently, but I'm really fucking annoyed about this and want to speak on this.
Let me tell you this - if fascists CARED about our culture, they would make it open to all. Us Welsh very much value access of Welsh culture, history, and language to all, since all of those aspects have been severely suppressed; so because of that, we are delighted whenever anyone of any background shows an interest. I've seen more non Europeans show genuine interest in our culture and language by MILES than these far right, white supremacist, British/English nationalistic fuckers.
What he CARES about is having a predominantly white community. Do not try to lie to our faces. We're fucking disgusted at having to deal with bigots who we have actively been fending off for years.
You are NOT welcome in Wales, fuck right off. You are not our friend, you are not our fucking 'ally'. You repeatedly HURT our people - especially non white ones! You want a monolithic 'British' (read white English) culture, and anyone who knows a thing about Wales' climate will inherently understand that. I feel like I'm talking to a brick fucking wall when I try to tell non Celtic people that they try to incite the same shit they've always done.
What IS 'corrupt' are rich, ignorant as shit English people using their wealth to buy up land that our locals are priced out of OVER AND OVER again without the wealthy even ACKNOWLEDGING it; and we don't want to pretend like it doesn't exist just to be 'nice'. We're one of the UK countries with the highest poverty rates, and some populist white supremacist comes over to exploit it all from setting up an evil fucking fundraiser. Where's OUR fundraiser to buy livable houses? We're treated like utter shit. Stop trying to say non white people don’t belong here or aren’t Welsh; stop creating such funding of hostile environments for them.
I'm fucking tired of British nationalists treating us all as monolithic similar minded state, and not like we're actually made up of various countries, and thinking they can do no harm or exploit because it's 'their' country.
I may sound radical and may piss people off, but you're in Wales, you come from England. Stop treating Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland (not like it ends just there) as 'little Englands', because it heavily exacerbates financial, social, cultural, and political issues. The history, wealth imbalances, and culture does in fact, come into play and changes things, you fascist fucking moron. It is the reason why we want you to cachu bant.
It does frighten me all the things Reform wants to do to non English languages, because it does prevent learning and accessibility.
On a personal note, I’ve saved most of the flyers before the Senedd election to study written Welsh and inform myself on new words. It is a powerful tool when language is publicly available, which is why they want to strip away knowledge and accessibility away from others.
They don’t want immigrants retaining their languages, they don’t want them to be informed of what’s going on, they just want a monolithic, hostile culture.
I’m not surprised at Reform attacking Celtic languages again, but I am surprised this time at them trying to jail or fine people using their languages.
This is them, clear as day, saying they want some form of modern day cultural erasure.
They are very much trying to discriminate against immigrants who aren’t from English predominant/fluent backgrounds and that should have been made clear; it’s not just about the Celtic languages. They have a track record of being backwards misogynists who want to strip away women’s autonomy as well, even if they try to hide behind their female MPs.
This was the article that popped up on my feed so I thought I’d share, but it is quite negligent to not share the full extent of these wanted rules and also how it’d affect things such as BSL.
Reform are being racist, ignorant tools per usual, and people need to be more informed on the impacts of people.
I miss when ads were a single click and then they’re gone. Now every ad has a minimum of three phases where you watch a video, exit the still frame of fake gameplay, and then exit the app download. That doesn’t even touch on the ones that forcibly take you to another app after opening a tab in safari without you ever touching the screen.
I hate advertising. I hate that you can’t do anything without companies jumping down your throat with mostly bullshit ads. I hate that billboards exist. I hate that every company unanimously decided to make their ads longer and longer. I hate that ad blockers try to charge you money and there are in app purchases to remove ads. I hate that my attention has become commodified. I hate that there’s nothing I can do about it.
it really is annoying as hell how someone will talk about how poor people can't avoid ethically dubious products because of how being poor works and then someone with a two story house in the suburbs will take that to mean they can order harry potter books through a drone delivery from amazon and if you criticize that you're a bigot
that Starmer guy in the UK is so unintentionally funny, I forget he exists most of the time, whenever he exists is to suck US or Israel's cock and do some stupid right wing shit despite being, supposedly, a social democrat who won the largest victory of his party in decades, he held like a superultramajority and did absolutely nothing except I don't know, make people require IDs to look at boobs on the internet, everybody hates him and wants him out but also he doesn't spark that much hate because he stands for and does nothing, and he looks like J.J. Abrams.
"ohh but he's a social democrat you should expect that" look, I know making fun of social democrats is a pastime here but look at Sánchez or Lula or anyone else, they have the power and they DO SOMETHING or at least pretend they do something and stand for something, this guy held an ultrasupermajority of parliament and all he does is literally nothing except sometimes say shit like "I support bombing innocent people and I love Trump" and hate on inmigrants and trans people, pure useless shit, I've never seen something like it and I LIVED THROUGH THE PRESIDENCY OF ALBERTO FERNÁNDEZ
Starmer is the natural consequence of trying to appeal to right-wing voters at all costs (it has never worked in any way)
What's funny is that he doesn't even NEED to do it. He's not campaigning for contested right wing seats or anything like that. He won massively. I'm not an expert on UK politics but look at this shit:
He could get anything approved. Literally anything. He could declare a People's Republic and he has the majority for it. He (and I must assume, the rest of his party) doesn't do it because they stand for a vague centre-right nothingness, apparently.
As a Brit. Yes. All this. Sadly.
And now he's been replaced as Labour leader by Andy Burnham, who will become Prime Minister on Monday 20th July. Burnham, for all the fluff about him being the lefty "King in the North," has given every indication that he intends to fuck over trans people, disabled people and immigrants policy-wise, just like Starmer did. New boss, same as the old boss.
This is part of a pattern: whenever Labour leadership hopefuls of the past spend have success outside the London epicentre, or spend time on the back benches, a collective fantasy about them tends to develop, wherein they could come back as leaders and save us. Before Burnham it was Milliband, a fantasy which conveniently ignored his prior stance on disability benefits.
I know I say this a lot, but people need to get behind the Greens, because it keeps being reinforced that whether Reform, the Tories or Labour win the next General Election, we are going to have a right-wing authoritarian government in Westminster, and how those possibilities differ will be a matter of degree, not of convictions or direction.
The Tories would be even worse than Labour, and we can't rule out a win for them. Recent polling shows that the Tory defectors who voted Labour to punish their usual party in 2024's GE are reversing that voting intention now. And Reform would be infinitely worse than either Labour or the Tories; they are Nazis in all but name. But above all, people must to stop wasting their time waiting for Labour - the actual party that exists in the late 2020s and not their idealised vision of what it could be - to conform to their fantasies of liberal democracy, because it is offering neither.
I realise there are still left-leaning MPs in Labour, and I appreciate their integrity, their rebellions such as the one that forced concessions on PIP, and their attempts to steer the party back on course, but we do not have however many years it will take to achieve that (and I think "a decade" is an optimistic view), because minorities, women and low-income people in the UK are on our knees, fascism is surging and pressing on us from all sides, and climate change is progressing rapidly.
They've squandered the public's trust; we cannot keep giving it to them.
