Is Doctor Who is cancelled?
Do you miss 2005 but want new episodes from that era?
Maybe aimed at a slighter older audience?
And still with queer representation?

i. have come into the possession. of a truly excellent object. behold:
the Death of Rats, rendered in crochet
(personal story about this below the cut, tl;dr this was a gift from a previously-estranged parent)
@balrogballs
"shipping and blorbofication are not inherently at odds with understanding a story's deep themes" and "some people can't grasp the themes of a story because they never learned how to engage with stories outside of the lens of shipping and blorbofication" are two statements that can coexist
No disrespect but I cannot handle the official art with Rincewind depicted as a grey haired old wizard. Every bone in my body knows this guy is a 30-40 year old walking disaster who got kicked out of college and wanders the planet against his will and is stuck in the middle of his life making things up as he goes along (affectionate).
mom's minion memes for real justice
i posted these originally like 9 or 10 years ago or something but I can't find them anywhere, so now you get retortured.
"Are you telling me that your university has practicing homosexuals on staff?"
Rincewind stammered. "I. I don't think so. Professor Macarona is so good at it he doesn't need to practice, I'm too nervous to ask, and Ponder doesn't have the time with all his other jobs. I suppose the more senior wizards might be practicing homosexuality." He thought back to some scenes in the Uncommon Room. "They certainly need the practice," he added.

i think it's very important that people know how common undereating is, esp. for feminized people, and how the lower calorie requirements for "women" are bullshit. you don't need to have a restrictive eating disorder (a psychiatric disability in which your relationship with food + body image is dangerous to your health [sometimes deadly] and prohibits you from participating in your daily life, forming relationships, and so on) to not be eating enough.
you could go your whole life not eating enough and not die or get really sick, but just be tired and grumpy a lot, or perform worse, or have brain fog, or a million other things. like there are so many gradations between "should have a snack" and "has a severe eating disorder". maybe you don't have an eating disorder, but you should still start eating more than iced coffee for breakfast. try it sometime!
This is literally what people are talking about when they say AI will be used to mainstream widely held bigotry. LLMs are trained on frequency and probability -> straight relationships are more well represented in the dataset -> straight pronouns and terms become the "correct" normal.
This is a form of backdoor bigotry from both normative facts (there are more straight than gay relationships) and well represented bigoted beliefs (men are superior to women).
Combine this with the mass of people inclined to believe (and being encouraged to believe) that if AI says and does something it must be correct

BLESS YOU OP. Reblogging for anyone else who (like me) was deeply sad about having missed it.
I love Jacob Tierney!!

a new reality tv show called So you think you can write Doctor Who
twelve episodes, twelve contestants - a mix of annoying middle aged sci fi authors, fan fic authors and random people off the street
a variety of against the clock writing tasks, big finish scripts, ability to interact with actors without shouting at them and challenges where you have no budget or doctor for an episode
judged by solely by christopher eccleston
this is how you find the new doctor who showrunner
Whatever, man...
one thing I've noticed about people who take issue with TMA/TME is that they always construct some fictional scenario whereby the TME person will be asked/preassured to disclose their TME status by the TMA person and how this is bad. This is extremely funny to me cuz not only is the inverse INFINETELY more common (afab only events, (TME) lesbian meetups, etc. the amount of TME queers who have asked me some variation of "so do you have a penis?" "are you a tranny or just a drag queen" "are those real?" *gesturing at my boobs*, is in the middling double digits) but also, every single TME person I've ever interacted with has made their TME status abundantly clear by the way they act around me/talk to me, usually within the first 10 minutes.
this tells me they both don't realize how they act around transfems and also that they don't talk to that many of us to begin with, if this hypothetical is something they believe is likely to happen.
Like, I don't need to ask you. you're gonna let me know wether I like it or not.
I'm really sorry you've experienced that. Everybody can internalize transphobic stuff, but it's really sad to see that kind of transphobia in the queer community. I know I would feel really betrayed to see a space that billed itself as queer accepting but didn't seem to have room for me in it.
I know I have experienced a lot of discrimination from those same "afab only" exclusionary spaces, as a genderqueer transmasc, as have many trans men and nonbinary folks and trans women and others who don't pass muster as feminine enough to be seen as safe and worthy allies by the kind of people who like to make "afab only" spaces. I've been denied access to resources that are supposedly "for women" or "for women and nonbinary people" (menstrual products, sexual assault reporting resources, uterine-focused reproductive healthcare) in spaces that proudly claimed to be trans-accepting and forced to either closet myself or to disclose my agab in order to receive access to care I needed, and opened myself up to transphobia just like you talk about, misgendering, ignorance, hateful comments too.
I think a lot of people in the queer community are very sensitive to being forced to label themselves a certain way or to disclose something about themselves like their agab or their trans status, especially when it's treated as a clearcut binary—that kind of thing can erase people or even put people in danger. You have to let people tell you who they are and what their own experiences have been, on their own terms. And yeah, sometimes who they are is "a transphobic asshole" but I think we can talk about transphobia and transmisogyny within the queer community without making assumptions about other peoples gendered histories.
I really feel you though. These experiences are shitty, and they need to be talked about. I hope you can find more solidarity and belonging going forward.
