a 500 word short story with the same plot as your novel that explores how quickly the problem could be solved by sonic the hedgehog

I’ve never seen this one before and it just punched me in the fucking face.
Just like Knuckles did to Sonic
like the fact that PrEP and PEP just kinda became a normal part of life one day without fanfare is something I think about a lot. Thousands of people died gruesome horrible deaths and now when I go on Reddit or ride the subway I see dinky little ads like "start this medication today so you don't contract/spread HIV! and if you get accidentally exposed there's a different medication for that to keep yourself from contracting!" and it's just an everyday thing. all those people who died fought for it to be this way.
Honestly one of the greatest achievements of modern medicine.
“Cook at home to save money” sounds all well and good until you get a little too into it and suddenly you’re bookmarking recipes that call for The Preserved Grace of God and that shit is $13 at the specialty store

ok. i survived 25 years outside the international space station. who gives a shit
Technically most moss is outside the international space station
Just in case you need to hear this, bedtime is not for looking at news. It's not time to watch videos about what's going on; it's not time to catch up or "stay informed". Your job at bedtime is to relax and clear your head and sleep, so that you can be rested and tackle another day tomorrow. That's your only responsibility at bedtime. That's how you serve the world best. At bedtime, relaxing and going the fuck to sleep is praxis.
In Czech we don’t say “are you fucking kidding me?!”, we say “did you shit yourself?!” and I think that’s beautiful
In Czech we don’t say “chill the fuck out”, we say “don’t shit yourself” and I think that’s beautiful too

To all us allegedly dead bitches!
Thinking about the homeschooling family who frequent my library and who pulled their teen son out of public school because they wouldn't accommodate his learning disabilities. For context I am in the American South, that mythical land where the education system is so bad that it's not anyone's personal fault that they never learn anything, because they're so helpless and stupid.
Anyway, they were doing basic math and reading and writing at home and had their standard curricula for that, but their project for a year and the reason I saw them every week for a year is that he was learning about 1 country each week. They would get three books, one about the country's history, one about her food, one about language (if possible) or travel (if not). They would read select chapters from all three (he rarely cover-to-covered them, especially if I didn't have books meant for young readers about a particular country, as our collection for such matters is often 'not great buddy') and make up a worksheet of basic facts and history at the end of the week, when the family would also cook something form the cookbook together to eat for dinner.
South of the USA. Public library with books that were not ideal. He didn't even read the whole book if it was too big. They didn't even go looking for the books themselves, they went to a local building with free services, asked a worker there to find them the books, and went home.
You can learn about the world around you! It can be fun and delicious! Your local librarian will not say a word if you want easy books and no one will ever know if you don't read the whole thing! If you have been waiting for a parent or teacher or pastor to tell you what to learn, REBEL! GO LEARN ABOUT THE WORLD AROUND YOU ON YOUR OWN!
I think it’s normal for people to be mad at each other sometimes even if they’re close friends or family or intimate with each other. Like I think that’s a normal and healthy part of relationships that can happen sometimes
“Why were you on Mad At Me island” because at the time I was mad at you and yet our friendship has weathered that without trouble
I went to Mad At You island because my feelings are my problem. I needed to stomp down the beach until I could sit and watch the sunrise. I built a sandcastle and did some thinking. Then I boarded the good ship You Matter To Me and sailed it all the way to meet you on the Let’s Talk Shore of I Love You Island.
Let's outlive some motherfuckers this year
20-somethings on this website doing none of the things we’re evolved to do for our health and then wondering why they’re so depressed. (smacking you through the screen) GO EAT A LEAF!!!!!!!! GO CRACK A NUT OPEN WITH A ROCK YOU SAD TORMENTED LITTLE APE
i know this is easier said than done and i do not mean this judgementally but you have to start treating yourself like the animal you are in any small consistent way you can. like imagine you went to a zoo and you saw a gorilla sitting in front of blue screens for hours with no natural light no physical activity no interaction with peers no nutritious whole foods no fresh air no water and a pack of cigarettes. you would run screaming to the local news about the blatant animal abuse. you would be demanding boycotts you’d be sledgehammering locks off cages. do you get what i am saying please go squish your toes in mud
This this this! You're your own zookeeper so stop violating ethics boards
really hope this is my tumblr legacy #MyLegacy
"but I don't know where to start"
Lay in grass for 5+ minutes just existing
Look for cool rock/stick to hold for a little bit
Look for shapes in clouds
Kick leaves on sidewalks in autumn
Blow dandelion fluff in summer
Close eyes and listen to birds/nature/weather (recordings are fine)
Drink from a running tap with your hands
If you have a little more time, some more complex activities for your monkey brain:
Get a bag of peanuts and peel them open with your fingers. If you don't eat peanuts/are allergic, try a different nut. If you're allergic to all nuts, get green beans or snap peas and crack them all open to eat the insides first. Sunflower seeds/pumpkin seeds will work as well.
Put some treats in capsules (cheap Easter eggs with great) and hide them around your dwelling. Candy/snacks are fine but stickers or other small rewards work too. Foraging brain will like this. Bonus if you can exchange hiding with a friend.
Go on a walk/ride to a new place. Novelty is essential for mental health. If you're not sure where to go, literally just pull up Google maps or something, zoom in on your location or nearby, and look for a shop you've never been to, then go explore it. My partner just took me to a thrift shop I'd never been to, and my brain will be picking over that new memory for days.
Once in a while, find a restaurant you've never been to and go get something in person even if it's just picking up a dessert. Try to order something you haven't before, or haven't in a while. You might hate it, but that will be an enrichment, too.
Go to where a social event is happening/where other people are. You do not have to participate, personally, but regularly going to where there are humans doing human stuff is immensely beneficial to mental health. Libraries, museums, and parks are a good starting point.
Look up local festivals in nearby towns and look at stuff people made by hand/at home. You don't have to buy anything, you don't have to make anything yourself, but seeing things people made by hand will Do Stuff for your brain, especially if you're stuck in doomscroll brain rot mode. Look at that little lumpy bar of soap, that little hand-knit scrubbie, that frog made out of old utensils. Things are still being made by humans all over, and you can go and look at them in person.
If you have the money, get some cheap canvas (near me Michaels has cheap canvas packs that go on sale for like $2/canvas) or thick paper and some poster paint in your favorite colors, and paint with your hands. It doesn't have to be a picture, just use your hands to smear paint on canvas. Poster paint is generally washable, so if you hate it you can just wash it off. Wear gloves if you need to, but put your handprint on that cave wall.
If you're able, arrange to speak out loud to at least one friend a week. "but I hate-" I know, but it's good for you to speak aloud to other friendly primates and share stories. Story sharing is huge for humans. You don't have to be a writer to tell stories, talk about your trip to the grocery store or the cool rock you found. This will have the bonus effect of starting you looking for things to tell your friend on your phone call, which slows you down and lets you notice your life as it's happening.
You don't have to do everything, but doing some of this, or similar actions, can get you started on treating yourself as the primate your body is. Problem solving, treats, exploration, novelty, socialization, creation, observation, and engaging in your available physical senses are all things your mind and body, as a human, need in order to be enriched.
my ducks? in a row. the elephant? addressed. my goose? cooked. my eggs? in several baskets. the bigger fish? fried.
Your monkeys ?
those aren’t mine.
