name: Vale, any pronouns, weird blog. more details in the post below. welcome to finding The Mystery Illness at the glorious age of Twenty-Something and other fun forms of nonsense
Current mood: did not get killed by wolf pack while sleeping in forest while solo hiking at 2.55 AM Saturday 25h July 2026. I'm also not dying from illness, just iron and vitamin d deficient as fuck. Yay?
(I've been taking my supplements damn it i should not be losing my bones)
Hello! I'm Vale (over age 20, aroace, any pronouns, marrier until beloved decides otherwise. Forest person. Trying to learn my 4th and 5th languages. They're blending together. Don't marry a French person.)
If i am prevented from doing something about The Entire Situation because of some mystery illness i swear i will start shit (and finish it) with the universe or god depending on which if either turns out to be in charge of what happens around here.
I uhhh, i'm...certainly up to something. Have no idea what i'm doing though.
This is mostly a calming blog/collection of things I like and find interesting, and the place where i keep most of my online friends.
The bog blog is sfw. Any non-calming or nsfw posts will be tagged so you can filter them away. Everyone is welcome here as long as you are kind. I repeat: be nice to each other.
I may or may not be platonically married to several people.
Husband if you see this i want to know your tumblr username. How dare you keep this information from me.
Update: hello husband <3
Update 2: i seem to have become a simp. I should perhaps be slightly afraid and i am, but also i regret nothing.
This blog usually contains nature pictures (some mine), some anime and other fandom stuff wait oh fuck how far have I fallen how did I get here, writing-related nonsense, art, tea, books, and many cats. There's the existential dread too of course, and some horror stuff. Read the full post for my tags if you want to avoid those (or to find more of them).
My tags:
'Book counting' - my reading diary
"Too many bad things" - negativity tag for anything that is not calming, like existential dread, bad news and discourse. Block this if overwhelmed by whatever is going on. (Originally created for pandemic-related posts in 2021, then 80% Palestine themed, and now it's a mix of global news and the US situation)
'Things happening' - current events tag for keeping up with things that aren't bad enough to earn the 'too many bad things' tag
"Ominous" - anything with horror themes.
"Bones" - mostly pretty art I couldn't resist reblogging that has bones somewhere in it.
"Food" - food. (Drinks like coffee and tea are not tagged as food. Let me know if you need me to tag these as well ok?) (i don't always notice food in posts)
"Vale's collection of dreams and nightmares" - personal tag that functions as my dream diary. you might want to block this. (I'll try to tag and hide anything triggering)
"Alcohol in this post" - post contains alcohol (rare tag).
"Potentially useful information" - resources tag. Anything and everything from how to save a life to free books, links, and anything interesting I want to be able to find again.
"Good things" - opposite of too many bad things, positive and hope-restoring posts go here.
"Vale's nonsensical writing archive" - my posts about my writing bc I need to find them somehow.
"Vale screams into the abyss" - personal ramblings tag. This is where I yell at the world and my life and myself. Block this tag if you dislike vent posts or other posts that get... personal.
Also: the only two trigger tags I actually remember to tag every single time are snakes and spiders (asked by two different mutuals to tag if seen in posts) so if you have strong triggers you absolutely want to avoid please tell me, that will actually help me remember to tag them.
Update: paranoia tw added to the list
If you have more tag ideas let me know?
Lastly: if you see me post or reblog something problematic just let me know, I can take criticism and won't be mad at you.
i actually get a bit annoyed with people who get a bit annoyed when people say “sorry” in response to their bad news. “why are you apologizing you didn’t do anything :/” like okay well a) you don’t know that and actually yes i am the secret architect of all your woes and have been this whole time, way to refuse to acknowledge a woman (gender neutral)’s accomplishments. and b) we’re both fluent english speakers so you know perfectly well that “sorry” isn’t always an apology and is very commonly used as an expression of general regret or sympathy. not in this case, because i have been your secret nemesis for years, meticulously plotting your every misery, but, like, in general
yesterday my date made me promise to "not talk to any random russians this time" only for me to immediately become best friends with a kosovan gang member. saved on a technicality
after i successfully taught him how to play uno via google translate i explained to him that my date's phone got stolen, prompting both the most threatening AND the most hilarious sentence ever typed into a translator:
"why did you have to promise that you won't talk to russian people in in first place" because after a certain amount of alcohol i enter a stage of inebriation my friends have dubbed "russian hour" in which the duolingo trained part of my brain takes over and i sniff out russian speaking people like a bloodhound and exitedly talk to them until i am physically dragged away.
For some reason that makes no sense to me, the english language doesn't have a distinct verb for "thinks/believes falsely" in contrast to just "thinks" or "believes" without judgement on whether their convictions are grounded in reality or not.
If you're out to deceive, then you totally can! That's how you get people campaigning against vaccination while being vaccinated themselves. Sometimes, they're cynical grifters, but often they're sincere despite being living testament to the falsehood.
Also, I still come back to my original question: who gets to decide what's false?
Come to that I have an even more troublesome question. What if the belief is right but the observer is judging it as wrong?
No, I don't think that a person going out of their way to fool and scam other people might exist in a state where they simultaneously believe and do not believe what they are saying.
I falsely believe that nobody could be that stupid.
It’s Fossil Friday! If you’re in the mood to hibernate, get inspired by the cave bear (Ursus speleaus). Although it’s related to the largest living bears of the Arctic, Ursus spelaeus lived only in Europe. Discoveries in the Alps suggest that its habitat extended up to altitudes of 6,300 ft (1,920 m). Most of the tens of thousands of remains found are of young and old animals that died during hibernation. Skull accumulations and depictions in cave paintings show that this species, which disappeared more than 14,000 years ago, was important to Ice Age humans.
every Friday after doing fuck all at school each week I think "ok I'm finally gonna lock in and study this weekend" and then as soon as the weekend starts I think "its ok I'll lock in at school next week" and then the cycle repeats
Am going to start taking old peoples advice more seriously and dedicating time in summer just to getting some sunlight. Grandmother was right. It is highly important that once summer is done you've tanned at least 1 tone in the north, 2 if you don't burn immediately, 3 if you start out visibly darker. it's a direct vitamin d level predictor and if you do not get it your bones start to become leaky. And for fucks sake eat all the fish you can get your hands on. I now know why we used to eat almost nothing but many disgusting variations of fish upon fish upon fish. Because if you DON'T do that here, you start LOSING YOUR FUCKING BONES and also your sanity. Fuck. Why was i not told to take this more seriously. Aaaaaaa
