book review for Dear Wendy by Ann Zhao!!
Such a good read! I havenโt found many books where main characters were ace or aro, let alone aroace! I loved that the story was from both Jo and Sophieโs point of view and we got to see different experiences with identity in being aroace and intersections with being a person of color, a child of immigrants, different family dynamics, etc. As someone on the ace spectrum, it can feel lonely and isolating at times. To read a book where the main characters are aroace, and that focuses on different types of love, centering platonic love, was so comforting. In a world so focused on sex and romance, I loved reading a book that showcases the experiences and importance of other types of love that are equally important. The story line of the Dear Wendy and Wanda accounts was really interesting as well! I donโt think Iโve read a book like this before - and will definitely be seeking out more aro and ace -spec centered stories!!
